YES! How do you know which colors go together? And how do I pick a foundation color when I can’t test it on my skin? I have no idea if I am cool or warm ir what my undertones are. I always go for neutral because I just don’t know.

Yes please! I know light color theory to some extent, but pigment theory is a bit different. I think it's also part of color theory - the way light reflecting particles affect perception of size, shape, etc -- and I would love to know more. I've figured out that a tiny amount of clustered glitter/sparkle above my pupil can make my eyes appear to twinkle, but that a whole line of shine will appear more subdued...but why exactly? Also I love intellectualizing everything, so let's go lol!!!

I believe Bobbi Brown used to talk about using foundation with the opposite undertone. Given that Lady Gaga does that Gwen Stefani thing of eliminating her own natural coloring (bleach the hair to a blond with no nuance and hide the olive undertones) I’m not surprised that the Haus foundation misses.

The Makeup Forever is my FAVE ever, ever. I hated the older version, that new one I love. It works perfect on my combo skin and a lot of people compliment my skin when I use it. The color match is perfect for me.

You’re not wrong about the Dior quints…but I will say once and a while they do a “special one” and knock it out of the park. Jungle comes to mind as a unique one, people loved Night Bird and I really love Reflexion. All of those were late summer/fall releases I believe. People also seem to love some of the smokey holiday ones - not my vibe but they do look beautiful. I find generally the luxury brands neutral palettes aren’t very dimensional. Go for the unique ones.

Loved this! It was especially helpful to hear about the Merit lipsticks. I keep thinking I want one b/c so many people *love* them andI like the blotted look but hate high maintenance lipsticks. Thanks for saving me $26!

Fwiw I have 5 Merit lipsticks in the neutrals and reds and not the color Kackie has - and did not have the experience she had at all. The red ones aren’t my fave undertones but slip and 1990 are some of the easiest lipsticks I’ve ever tried - not patchy at all and really effortless. I’m guessing the formula is slightly different between those two and the more colorful ones. L’avenue I really like but it’s not as evenly pigmented as slip and 1990.

I have bought the Dior palette in "Tutu" and that one does have enough variation to make it interesting. It looks violet toned in the photos, but the "color" shade is more blue and the other colors are very distinct colors of cool to neutral toned brown with one shimmer topper.

I think the Haus Labs color theory (and MAC, since I believe they use the same theory on foundation undertones) is trying to neutralize skin tones. Which, fine, except even when you put that all the way down your chest your hands are still going to be a completely different tone. And that's why that theory on color doesn't work.

I agree with you about the Merit lipsticks! I bought two shades, Millennial and 1990, and they’re amazing. Then I purchased the limited edition holiday bundle to get the shade Aperitif, and it’s BAD. It’s a red shade, and makes me look like I’ve been wearing a lipstick that faded hours ago, even if I just applied it.

Oh, and speaking of color theory, the best book I have ever read on color theory, hands down, is called "Yellow and Blue Don't Make Green" by Michael Wilcox. That book helped me tremendously with color mixing.

Came for the tragedy, stayed for the comedy. 😄Chaotic Aries energy Kackie is getting me through the seasonal shift. I honestly only disagree on two items: I love the shape of the Merit lipstick because it fits my application style and feels less "precious" and fussy (especially given the softness of the formula), and most well-loved lipsticks eventually deform; I use the Saie airset translucent powder and, for me, it's very as-advertised in that respect. It's also basically a highlighter, and the performance leaves something to be desired, but I digress! Thank you for being your wonderful authentic self and providing us with this A+ content.

That Haus Labs Foundation did not wear well on my skin, it looked terrible after a couple of hours and instead of making my skin look better over time, it broke me out🙈 pore clogging the haus 😂 im glad I got the correct shade straight away but also the powder wasn‘t it on me. I only like the bronzer

New subbie - I loved this 👍 Telling us what didn't work and why, is equally as useful/necessary as telling us what does work. I need to to know what not to buy because I live in the UK - Which means, returning a product (for whatever reason) is not the easiest thing to do. Even untouched, never used, in pristine condition, cannot be returned - cough, cough Harvey Nichols 😡 I'm going to add the TF Kaki quad to the "Why?" pile.
