You know, that’s a conversation we have often. I appreciate you noticing that and appreciating it as well. We know many people don’t wear them when underway, especially if its nice out. To us, they’re not uncomfortable, so what’s the downside? Anything can happen when you least expect it, so why not? Its just like putting your seatbelt on when you’re just driving down to the end of a road. We also have a rule if there’s going to only be one person on deck, the last going below must make sure they have a pfd on - and if its at night (calm or not) you must tether in. Hard to talk about purpose when your life seems all about hedonism (not that there's anything wrong with that). My two cents: someone's purpose in life should not be... well... himself. All the best!!

This was a tricky idea to put out there, especially via a short video. I do believe there's more purpose to be found outside ones self. And while I don't pretend to be a philosopher, I think my point was this. If giving the choice of working for a living so I can buy food and shelter myself, or to be giving everything for free, then I'd find less value/purpose in myself if I was giving everything. Not working feels like the latter (even though I'm living off savings). Enjoying yourself when not working just compounds the idea. As mentioned, having kids or the like may fulfil that void, thus the point of the video. -Brian

@@TakeTheWaters Having raised a kid (and very much enjoyed it) I'm not sure if that's where one should look for purpose entirely. Maybe doing that would make it too much about you and not the kid. But it would be interesting to hear what others have to say. Oh, and I think you ARE a bit of a philosopher really. That's what I like about your videos.

I agree with catwednesday that a kid is not what I would look to find purpose. I was thinking more of something that helps the society, the world and the planet.

I may be at home dying or maybe not, and my little ego (I certainly don't have a big ego, I think... that's maybe not for me to judge, but not for you either) may be hurt or not. But one thing is sure, you can not judge my intentions better than myself because you don't know me. Regarding what do I do that's so great for the world, that's an excellent question that I make to myself often, hopefully you do too and it seems that @Take the Waters are asking to themselves too.
