Thank you for this much needed video! We just made a purchase of this same brand at Raymour and Flanigan yesterday. I went in for the intention to buy a whole nother brand, and once i laid on the black beautyrest c type for a few minutes, i was sold. The sales guy kept showing me other brands, but in the end my husband and I felt this was the right one. Hope we don't regret it. For refrence i am a 💯 side sleeper, my husband is a combination..150 pounds (me)/husband 180.. i have back, pelvis, neck and shoulder pain, wake up with headaches every single day, and it all started happening since 2016 when we bought a bob-o-pedic firm mattress with all the bells and whistles, worth almost $2,000 (Worse decision ever!) Didn’t do my research, trusted the sales person cause he said he bought the same one. 🙄 and ofcourse i fell for it.. And because of the price, we decided to keep it all these yrs. Suffering!!! Until now, that we finally feel like it's more of a need than a want. But this helped alot. Thanks!

I just bought a c class plush pillow top. Do you think this is a mistake or do you think this is a good mattress that will last a long time? I’ve seen bad reviews about it sagging and just not holding up even over a short period of time

This is a great video! I understand that b-class just released and you didn’t mention here. Can you please explain about b-class and harmony lux coral? I need to choose one of this as Beautyrest needs to replace for me from sagging. Now, I can’t decide. I went to Macy and tried both Harmony Lux Coral and Black B-Class. Both are in medium level. I feel very similar but the differences are: • Harmony Lux Coral: more adjust along with my body when I sleep on my side. The padding fabric on the top of mattress is kind of thinker so I feel like pillow top. I feel more springy when I bang my hand on it. • Black B Class: The padding fabric on the top of mattress is kind of thinner. When I sleep on the side, the mattress pretty stays flat, not down much, compared to Harmony Lux Coral. But when I bang my hand on it, the mattress is easier to go down deeper than Harmony Lux Coral. To be honest, I still cannot decide. I like the feel of Harmony Lux Coral more when I lay down but the seller told me that T3 from Black line is stronger than T2 from Harmony Lux line. So, I guess it means more support? And Black is more coil than Harmony. I don't know what it helps. So, from what the seller explains, it means that I should buy Black b-class more than Harmony lux?

@goodbed Жыл бұрын
Hey there! So I've just reviewed the specs on these and they are indeed very very similar. They even appear to have the same firmness of poly foam over the coil unit. The big difference here is in that coil unit. The T3 coil in the B-Class is lightly zoned and a known quantity with one of the strongest coils on the market. The T2 coil is a relatively new addition to the market, though built on the same "braided coil" concept as the T3, just with one less strand in the braid. If you're a heavier individual I might recommend the B-Class, but otherwise these are very very similar mattresses.

So i like pretty firm beds sometimes medium firm. I usually dont go for a pillow top. I think tight top is good not sure. I do toss and turn a lot. I do like some bounce. I hate memory foam. I hate sinking and waking up sweaty. I sleep hot. Nothing annoys me more than sleeping with straight hair and waking up with curly hair sweaty. I do sleep with a very high pillow because acid reflux. I was looking mostly at stearns and foster or beautyrest black. I dont really understand the differences entirely between stearns foam and beautyrests gel foam or latex and all these materials polyutherane tencel. I just want it to be as cold as possible and breathable . Firm. Minimal foam i think?. Plz help guide me in right direction and tell me which bed to get. Money is not an issue thank u. Great videos ❤
@goodbed
@goodbed Жыл бұрын
In this case, I think the Beautyrest Black options might be better for you? These are typically slightly firmer than Stearns and Foster models and have less of a dense memory foam with more natural fibers. And generally, natural fibers tend to breathe well compared to synthetic foams. Something in the Beautyrest Black Medium or Medium Pillowtop range could work very well for you.

Hey thanks for the great video. Question... for a side sleeper (180 pounds) whose biggest issue is the painful sides of my shoulders when I sleep on my side, right where i dig my shoulder into the mattress... what would you suggest from these? I definitely need something soft in the shoulder area because I keep flipping back and forth from the dead arm pain, thank you!
@goodbed
@goodbed Жыл бұрын
In that case, you might look at a hybrid model? The stretch cover on these is a bit softer and will generally allow for more conformance at the shoulder area than a quilted cover. Otherwise we'd recommend a Plush model provided that it supports the rest of your body. The Firm and Medium models in the Black line generally use firmer coils.

How will I experience the qualities of the mattress when I add the mattress pad and sheet to the mattress? The cooling properties, the alpaca or vegan additives will be of very little to no use for the sleeper? The firm, medium and plush features seem to be the only thing the sleeper will experience?
@goodbed
@goodbed 2 ай бұрын
Hi there -- Assuming you just mean a mattress "protector" -- and not a foam topper of some kind that has an inch or more of thickness to it -- adding that plus your sheet will have minimal effect on most of the properties we test and describe. The "coolness to the touch" will be greatly reduced, however the overall cooling properties of the mattress as we measure them will be largely unchanged, since those go well beyond what you feel when you first touch the mattress or lie down on it for the first 10-15 minutes. Memory feel, cushioning depth, and bounce will all be pretty much unaffected. Same for things like edge support, ease of repositioning, adjustable base compatibility, etc. Your protector can add a little softness, but it would have the same added softness on any mattress. Likewise, your protector and/or sheet can have an effect on motion isolation, but this effect would generally be the same no matter what mattress you use them on. So in either case, the underlying properties that we measure are still a relevant benchmark, and are the best way to compare different mattresses. I hope that's helpful.

Thanks Joey. I think a lot of subscriber numbers you see on KZbin include subs that were purchased or incentivized in some way. We don't play games like that, so that is certainly one reason why ours may look lower than you'd expect. Another factor is that we I don't think we've ever taken any time in our videos to ask our viewers to like and subscribe. So our likes and subscribers are people who took this action 100% on their own. That said, given that even the largest YT channels seem to ask people to like and subscribe in every video, perhaps this approach is a little naive on our part. Would certainly be open to any thoughts or suggestions you may have. Thanks again.

Hey there! This is a tough question to answer, as the severity of scoliosis tends to vary from person to person. That said, our best guess might be a plush hybrid design like the new BX-Plush? We hear you. Memory foam is only becoming more common these days, and while it can have some distinct benefits, it's not loved by everyone. Still, if it's been a while since you've tried memory foam, you might find that it's typically a lot more breathable and sleeps a lot cooler than it used to. And we generally find that small layers of memory foam (about an inch or so) aren't felt strongly by most sleepers. Hope that helps.

Do you have an opinion on using adjustable bases with beautyrest black mattresses? In particular, the c-class firm or extra firm? - Will using an adjustable base “break down” the firmness (in a bad way)? - Do you recommend going with a Beautyrest base, or would a Seely or Tempur adjustable base be fine?
@goodbed
@goodbed 5 ай бұрын
Hi there -- On balance, bending your mattress on an adjustable base does add a little bit of extra wear and tear, especially if you've got it flexed to the max by fully elevating the head and foot to the max at the same time. However, in the way that most people use an adjustable base, I don't think the "cost" in terms of accelerated wear and tear outweighs the benefit that you get from the adjustable base features. In terms of which base you use, the main reason to get a matching base is for the matching aesthetics. Beyond that, bases are generally interchangeable and aren't designed to work specifically with one brand of mattress over another. I hope that's helpful.

Hi there -- Thanks for your question. In general, these lines will be very similar on this front, but all else being equal I'd give a slight nod to the Quilted line, mostly because the undulating surface will allow a bit more of your body's surface area to be exposed to the air, which is the most efficient way for you to dispel heat. @goodbed

Good question. There are a lot of people using the word "hybrid" in the mattress industry right now, and this means different things to different people. Here at Goodbed, we use the word hybrid to mean a smooth top model with about two inches of memory foam in it. The smooth top and initial feel of memory foam is akin to a memory foam mattress, but the underlying pocketed coils provides a bit more bounce effectively hybridizing these constructions. Do you think the Beautyrest Pressuresmart 2 Extra Firm is similar in feel to the Beautyrest Black Class C Extra Firm??? I have scoliosis, and today I tried a bunch of mattresses at Mattress Firm. My absolute favorite was the Beautyrest Pressuresmart 2 Extra Firm. I didn't try the Beautyrest Black Extra Firm, I'm not sure if they even had one, but I should maybe go back to check. I am wondering your opinion on whether or not the Black Extra Firm is better or worse than the PressureSmart Extra Firm. A main concern of mine is that the Pressuresmart will sag. I've read a few reviews saying it will, and but I have also read a bunch of reviews from people who loved that mattress, so i don't know what to expect. I'm 6'1", 187 pounds. Do you think with the special coils on the black it would be less likely to sag over time? I'm mainly concerned about the extra materials the Black added on top of the coils, I'm afraid it will change the feel and make the extra firm Black too soft for me, because I really really liked the firmness of the pressuresmart, but if the black is just as firm then I would rather get it I think. Thank you so much for your help friend!
@goodbed
@goodbed Жыл бұрын
Generally we'd expect Extra Firm mattresses to be pretty durable across the board. These use very firm foams that are unlikely to soften such that a person experiences sagging in the first years of use. And while it is true that the Black T3 coil is likely to be more durable, it also comes at an increased cost. I'd try both if you can. These will feel similar, but we would expect the Black to be more durable.

The only reason I was considering a black was because I found one on craigslist for $1400, but tbh I'm not sure if I can trust it lol. @@goodbed Oh good point, thank you. So are you saying that though the BRS900 may feel the same as the PressureSmart at first, it will not be as durable over time and will likely develop a dip earlier than the PressureSmart? Edit: Also, I was wondering if I'm dumb for going for the pressuresmart and should be looking at the Harmony instead? Like is going for a Mattress Firm exclusive a bad idea? The pressuresmart just happened to be the only mattress in the store to completely put me out of spinal pain. I wish I could try the BRS900, maybe I will make the trek to the far away store to try it, I really need to make a decision quickly my back is killing me. Part of me wants to just spring for the pressure smart, but I'm really trying to decide if it is worth the extra nearly $1,000. Like one question I have is do the two different beds have the same coils? Like same gage? Same type of metal, etc? Also when a bed has less coils, are the coils bigger or just spread further apart? Like the BRS900 has 900, and the other one has 1,000, right? Are those coils the same and just spread or how does that work? Thank you so much for your channel by the way, I've watched so many of your videos, you've been so helpful to me

@@theNimboo Sorry we missed this reply earlier. I do think the PressureSmart units should hold up significantly better than the BRS900 units, both on account of the coil unit and the quality of foams used on top of the coils. Re: Harmony, in general, the PressureSmart mattresses have some extra memory foam in the quilt, which can help add pressure relief, while the Harmony mattresses have a significantly stronger coil unit that should hold up better over time. Spinal pain will be all about alignment and finding the mattress that allows your spine to be held in a neutral position, so the *right* mattress in either line should solve this for you. Sorry again for the delay in this reply but I hope this is still at least somewhat helpful.

@@goodbed I think that might be why everyone moved from a 20-year to a 10-year warranty. Thank you.
@goodbed
@goodbed Жыл бұрын
@@macmovieman1 That's a solid theory, but actually that change was one of the rare cases where ethics and economic incentives pointed in the same direction. Most mattress warranties are, and always have been, little more than a marketing gimmick. Because of the way mattress warranties tend to be written (so as to exclude up to 2 inches of sagging on the basis that it constitutes normal wear rather than a manufacturing defect), there are extremely few successful warranty claims that happen after the first year or two. This is to say nothing of prorating, which has always been common in warranties that extend beyond 10 years. As such, any mattress manufacturer can confidently extend their warranty from 10 years to 20 years, knowing that there will be very few incremental warranty claims that they will be liable for as a result of this. And since consumers don't understand any of this, mistakenly interpreting warranty length as a proxy for expected lifespan, doing this proved to be an effective sales tool. So once one manufacturer went to 20 years, every manufacturer had to follow suit. But it was well understood in the industry that 20 year warranties were a very misleading practice. Manufacturers and retailers knew that consumers mistook warranty length for longevity, so they leaned into it as a sales tool. But out of the other side of their mouths, with a completely straight face, they would explain that consumers should replace their mattress every 8-10 years. Finally, about 5-10 years ago (long after the switch to one-sided mattresses had begun), the key players in the industry started coming back to 10 year warranties. While it would be nice to think that this was about integrity, the reality is it was probably much more about industry consolidation. Once Tempur-Pedic merged with Sealy, and Serta merged with Simmons, 60% of the industry was tied up in 2 companies. Leadership at these companies realized that if the expectations created by a 20 year warranty were leading consumers to keep their mattress even just a few years longer than they otherwise would (or should), this was artificially lowering the number of consumers who would be in the market for a mattress in any given year. And with as much market share as they had, this reduced market size was hurting them much more than the incremental sales from having a longer warranty was helping them. And so, warranties got reduced to 10 years. The End. Hope that's helpful, or at least an interesting backstory. :)

@@goodbed Super helpful and thank you for the explanation. I bought a Stearns and Foster Estate bed in 2003 and turned in a warranty claim in Nov 2013 and paid for the upgrade to jump up two levels to their hybrid bed. I think I paid $2100 to upgrade which included new box springs, tax and the bed. I have come to terms that I want a new quality bed every 10-years which is right about now. Trying to decide between the Beautyrest Black K series and the Stearns and Foster Reserve both in their firm options that are closer to a medium. Trying to decide is so hard and I know they would both be good mattresses.
@goodbed
@goodbed Жыл бұрын
@@macmovieman1 First and foremost, I would agree that those are both very high-quality mattresses, so there is a lot to like in each case. In terms of choosing between them, I might start with the support unit, which is a strength of both brands. S&F uses the Intellicoil, a coil-in-coil design that specializes in providing both gentle supportiveness for lighter and/or concave parts and firmer supportiveness for heavier and/or pointy parts. Meanwhile, Beautyrest uses the T3 coils, which IMHO offer firmer, more rigid supportiveness overall. Comparing the Firm Pillow Tops in the S&F Reserve and BB K-Class, I see they have remarkable similar feels in terms of overall softness, cushioning depth, and memory feel. The Beautyrest Black, however, will have a little more bounce on account of the stronger coils and slightly less memory foam. Likewise, although both are right on the border of Medium and Medium-Soft, the Beautyrest Black gets there by having a bit more softness in its pillow top with a bit more firmness underneath. Of course, you'll want to make sure you choose a mattress that meets all of your criteria in terms of what we call the 3 F's -- Fit, Feel, and Features. If you haven't already done so, I'd recommend reading our explanation of how to choose a mattress here for more clarity on this: www.goodbed.com/guides/mattress-matching/ Lastly, I should mention that we've got cash back offers on both of these brands, both for shopping online and for shopping at various local retailers across the country. Good question. I just went through our records and it doesn't look like we have this information on hand. Based on my recollection from personally handling this material, it felt like a soft layer of Dunlop, though sometimes it can difficult to tell with small slices of latex. However, because it is just one layer in a more complicated construction - I don't think it matters so much either way. Both are quality materials (and can feel different), though these differences are very very difficult to discern when used in a complete build with other foams. Hope that helps!

Hi I bought a black quilted c class and had 2 inches of divot after a month. They classified as a defect and replaced it. It happened again in 1 week with the second. We are not heavy people. We generally prefer medium plus/minus PT. Open to others except for plush. Of all of the Black collections (L,C etc, firmness, and pillow top or not), which has been reported to have the least problems with divots?

@@melissahaglund9788 Wow, I'm really sorry to hear this has happened to you, and twice no less. That is wild. It feels like perhaps you are getting units that have been compromised in some way (eg, stored in hot warehouse for too long?). Putting that aside though, the units with the firmer coil unit will have less cushioning depth and should be a bit more resistant to body impressions as well. This includes all of the Firm models and most (if not all) of the Medium tight top models. Likewise, tight tops will generally have less foam on top which means less opportunity for body impressions, so I'd stick with those over pillow tops. Based on this, I'd start by trying the C-Class Firm. If that is too firm for you then I'd try the C-Class Medium (just check to confirm it has the firmer coil unit). Your other alternative would be to get the C-Class Extra Firm, which is tank but is as firm as they come, and add a separate topper to it in order to give yourself the softness level you want. I hope that's helpful.

How come manufacturers websites don't list/sell some of the same mattresses that are listed in this video or ones that are in retailers? For instance, Beautyrest's website doesn't list an "Extra Firm" option for either the Beautyrest Black L-Class or C-Class, but I've personally seen a retailer sell an L-Class Extra Firm and this video shows the C-Class Extra Firm. I read that mattress manufacturers like Beautyrest will allow stores to change the name of the product (i.e., market a true "firm" as "extra firm") sometimes, and they'll also make unique products for stores, so how can you tell the difference?
@goodbed
@goodbed Жыл бұрын
Hi there -- You asked a few questions here, so I'll try to hit them all. First, very few (if any) retailers carry the full lineup of models made by Beautyrest, which is why you don't see all of these on a given retailer's website. Second, the L-Class Extra Firm was part of the 2019 lineup -- there is no L-Class Extra Firm in the 2022 version of the line. In terms of allowing retailers to change the names of a product, this one is more complicated. Historically, retailers have always believed themselves to be more important than the brands, and brands have allowed them to get away with actions and demands that damage the brand in the hopes of keeping the retailer happy. This is how we ended up with the "model name game," where the same model is sold under different names in different stores, which has been a blight on the industry for decades. The other example you gave is a more subtle but perhaps more insidious form of this, where a retailer thinks they can sell more of a given model by calling it a different firmness level (eg, calling a model "Luxury Firm" instead of "Firm" or "Ultra Plush" instead of "Plush"). Fortunately, these types of name changes are less common, especially with a premium brand like Beautyrest Black that is more closely policed. But I'm afraid if a retailer is willing to take this type of action (and allowed to get away with it), there is not much an unsuspecting customer can do to spot it short of closely cross-referencing the store model against the information we provide here. I hope that's helpful.

@@chiefinskins21 You are correct that when I was using the term "retailer," I was referring to other retail businesses that carry Beautyrest products, not Beautyrest itself. That said, you're also correct that Beautyrest is a retailer themselves, as you can buy these products directly from them through their website. As for why they don't offer the C-Class Extra Firm on their website, I'm afraid I don't actually know the answer to this. It could have something to do with its rigidity making it harder to ship, or it could be simply that they want to save that product as an exclusive offering for their dealers.

Hi there -- Sorry we missed this previously. FWIW, "firmness" scales are confusing and misleading, since "firm" is an extremely ambiguous word that means very different things to different people. The idea of a 1-10 scale where the firmest mattress is a 10 was invented a few years ago by one of the first fake mattress reviewers. He didn't actually know anything about mattresses but knew he could sell more mattresses by making claims about "firmness." Sadly, deceptive information like this continues to be propagated by the nubes that run other mattress review sites today. That said, "softness" is a feature that means the same thing to most consumers and thus can be more accurately measured and communicated. On our softness scale (1-9, with 9 being the softest and 5 being a dead medium), we'd classify these as the following: * L-Class Firm: 2.3 * C-Class Firm: 3.4 * C-Class Extra Firm: 1.4 Apologies for the rant, but IMHO it's critical for a consumer to be able to know which information he/she can actually trust and how to spot untrustworthy information. I hope that's helpful.

So gimmicks aside, in reality the coil density ends up being actually lower than normal for a queen size mattress because Beautyrest counts each T3 coil as 3 not 1? Because if half are regular coils and half are T3 coils, for a queen that ends up being about 600-660 total actual coils (~300 normal coils + (~300 T3 × 3 = 900) = ~1,200). Depending on the actual layout, there might be an additional row of T3s or whatever to account for the remaining 60 coil counts for a total of 1260. But generally we can assume there are in reality about 600-660 total individual coils in a queen size Beautyrest Black. Which means the coil density is lower than average, with each coil handling a larger load per coil than normal. Not sure this is a good thing, and maybe why I see some people complain about early sagging issues with the new Beautyrest Blacks (though that seems to happen with other brands too)? Usually you'd see anywhere between 900 to 1200+ actual individual coils in a queen size. Am I missing something? Or did I miscount?
@goodbed
@goodbed 4 ай бұрын
Hi there -- Thanks for your question. Since you seem mathematically inclined, let's go through the math. First, the coil density is 815, so in terms of the extent to which coil count affects supportiveness, that's the first number you ought to focus on. 815 is right in the middle of the normal range, which goes from maybe 600 to 1100. Be careful with some of the coil counts you see. Many manufacturers like to count their "edge coils" in their coil count -- that makes their total coil counts misleadingly high and is one reason we focus strictly on coil density of the central sleep surface when we evaluate coil units. Beyond that, of course, coils aren't created equally. They can be strong or they can be flimsy. So what you really care about is the total amount of steel in the coil. This is reflected by coil gauge -- ie, the thickness of the wire (the lower numbers are stronger). These can be as flimsy as 16 or more. And at the other end, the strongest we tend to see is 12.5 to 13, which is often reserved for mattresses made specifically for heavy sleepers. The T3 coils have the same amount of steel as a 12.25 gauge coil, meaning they'd be about the thickest coil on the market. These are then alternated with either "firm" coils (13.75) or "plush" coils (15.25). This means that the effective average gauge here is 13 for the Firm and Medium models, and 13.75 for the Plush models. The Firm version is certainly stronger, but either way, the BR Black coil unit is definitely on the beefy end of the spectrum. In terms of any complaints you've seen about premature sagging, a general statement that applies to ALL mattresses on the market is that at least 90% of the time this has nothing to do with the coil unit and is strictly driven by foam on top of the coils. In the case of the Beautyrest Black, barring extreme outlier cases (eg, some weird manufacturing defect in the coil unit), I'd feel quite confident saying that number is 100%. I hope that's helpful.

@@goodbed Thank you so much for that detailed breakdown. This level of detail is the stuff I love nerding out on, and hate how little detail manufacturers typically provide for the materials they use. I'm currently in the market for a new queen mattress, and I was wondering if you can throw any recommendations my way for things to try out. I'm 6'2", hover in the 350-370lb range, primarily a back and side sleeper, prefer a "on top" type of sleeping experience, and generally prefer a firmer feeling mattress. I also tend to sleep hot, and prefer maximum cooling if possible (another reason I avoid full foam mattresses). One of the mattresses we own is a Pro Adapt Firm Tempur-pedic (the version that came out some years ago with a cooling top), and I still hate the sunken in feeling, low responsiveness, and how hot it sleeps after the initial 10-15 minutes of coolness. I've been shopping around, trying out some mattresses, but it's very tough finding the Firm or Extra Firm versions of various mattresses to try out in person. Also this mattress will be for our FL home, not the north east which is where I'm originally from (north eastern PA, and NYC). Thanks!

@@BigBear-- Glad to help! Not many people like to nerd out on mattresses, but you're in good company here. :) Re: the criteria you provided, I just plugged those filters into our search tool and came up with 4 options that look like a solid starting point. You can see them here, and feel free to tweak the filtering criteria as you like: www.goodbed.com/mattress-models/?support_s1_sp_back=back&support_s1_sp_side=side&support_s1_w_heavy=heavy&cushioning=1&cooling=8 I created a side-by-side comparison of these, and also added an S&F Ultra Firm that I think merits consideration in your case. Looking at these options, I might lean toward the Helix Plus on account of the coil unit, which we call HD, but is very close to what we'd consider UHD. www.goodbed.com/compare/?mod=real-bed-real-bed&mod=dlx-mattress-classic-12-medium&mod=dlx-mattress-classic-12-firm&mod=helix-plus&mod=stearns-foster-lux-estate-ultra-firm-tight-top Also, it's worth noting that if I lower the Cooling threshold just slightly, it will bring in some models that use a bit of memory foam (not nearly as much as the ProAdapt, but I'm I'm assuming you must like a little memory foam based on the fact that you own a ProAdapt). This includes several in the Beautyrest Black collection. Here's a comparison of those options: www.goodbed.com/compare/?mod=beautyrest-black-l-class-firm&mod=beautyrest-black-series-3-extra-firm&mod=beautyrest-black-b-class-extra-firm&mod=beautyrest-black-series-1-extra-firm&mod=beautyrest-black-c-class-extra-firm I hope that's helpful.

@@goodbed Thank you for that. I have tried a few mattresses in stores so far. The ones that I have liked so far are: - Beautyrest Black L-Class Firm I liked the overall feel, but was intrested in testing out a C-Class firm or extra firm. - Beautyrest Black Series-3 Firm Found it a bit too soft, and would really want to try the extra firm. - Stearns and Foster Estate Ultra Firm Liked this, maybe slightly on the firm side for me, which is why I'm dying to try the Lux Estate Ultra Firm. Seems like that might be a great fit from my research, but I'm having a hard time finding one in store to try. - Kingsdown Santino Hybrid Ultra Firm Really liked the overall feel - Aireloom Equinox Luxury Firm - Aireloom Equinox Extra Firm Was having a hard time deciding between the Luxury Firm and Extra firm, store was about to close, so would like to come back and try them again...but I did like them overall, had good edge support as well. - Avacado Green Firm (Standard) Found the Green mattress way too soft. Like a water bed with a really broken in or loose top. I also remember trying the Serta Arctic line a while back, and really liking the Firm, I remember specifically because I found it surprising that a full memory foam mattress could have that feeling of sleeping on top of the mattress rather than sinking into concrete. I also really loved the prolonged cooling effect. However that was in a really well air-conditioned store, with no sheets or covers over me. So I wonder if it wouldn't eventually warm up and sleep hot anyway after some period of time of laying on it (20-30 minutes). As for the Pro Adapt that we own, it wasn't my primary mattress. I would just occasionally sleep on it when visiting/staying at our NY place. Enough to know I don't particularly like it. It's not that I got bad sleep in it per say, I just hated most aspects of falling asleep in/on it, or trying to turn, as that would wake me up. I also HAD to have the AC blasting on hyper speed to even begin to tolerate how hot it slept. 😅 I really like the Kingsdown Santino, and the Aireloom Equinoxes, it's just until trying them in store, I never really heard about them. I would have to research them a bit more to understand their construction, materials, etc. I'm really drawn to the Stearn and Foster brand for some reason...I really wish I could try the Lux Estate Ultra Firm, it seems it might have just a bit more contouring ability than the regular Estate, while still being as firm underneath, which might be perfect for me. I'm also dying to try the Beautyrest Black Series-3 Extra Firm, for a similar reason. That it would have the contouring ability of the Firm, but just a bit more firm feel overall. With the online brand mattresses like the Helix, and others. It's almost impossible to find them anywhere to try. Particularly their firm and HD models. Making it hard to commit to ordering one blind, over mattresses I get to try in person. Though the Satvaa HD has been recommended to me multiple times. I might have to put the mattress search on hold, as there are few stores in my current area in PA. However there are a TON of mattress stores in our area of FL, between Sarasota, Venice, North Port, Port Charlotte, and Fort Myers. So I think it might be worth waiting until I'm down there to start shopping around again. It's just with the 4th of July sales, I thought it might be a good time to buy now. Thanks again for your help!

Really dislike the direction the mattress industry is going with these taller and taller hybrids. You really don't need 8" of foam above your coil support. These beautyrests will shove 2 layers of foam in the pillow top alone, a thin layer of microcoils just so they can market higher coil counts, then another 3 layers of various polyfoam, memoryfoam, convoluted foam, and so on. The people wonder why their $5k mess of a mattress is sagging on them after a few years when the cheap innerspring they replaced it with gave them 15 years.
@goodbed
@goodbed 7 ай бұрын
We hear you - more foam is not always better! That said, there is something to be said for microcoils in these builds. These can add a lot of conformance and are likely to be much more durable than similar layers of foam. Based on data we've seen, we expect the new generation of Beautyrest Black to have a bit less foam and a bit more of a balanced construction with regards to foam, natural fibers, latex, and microcoils.

Which coils do you think are overall more supportive, stearns and fosters intellicoil or the beauty rest t3 coils?
@goodbed
@goodbed Жыл бұрын
Hi there -- Thanks for your question. If you are asking which coils offer firmer, more rigid support overall, that would be the firm T3 coil unit IMHO (note that Beautyrest Black uses a slightly softer coil unit for their plush models). The IntelliCoils, with their coil-in-coil design, have a bit of a different specialty, which is to offer variable supportiveness through the combination of a taller but softer inner coil and a shorter but firmer outer coil. This can be advantageous for people who need more gentle supportiveness for their lighter and/or concave parts at the same time as they need firmer supportiveness for their heavier and/or pointy parts. In the Beautyrest Black design, this same dual objective is achieved more through the combination of the firm underlying coil unit and the softer comfort layers on top. I hope that's helpful.
@MURPHxiii

@@goodbed that is extremely helpful, thank you so much! Now, I see you mention that with the plusher models beautyrest may use a softer coil, can the same be said of Stearns and Foster? It sounds like Stearns and fosters coils would be what would work best for my body, so now I’m wondering if I just need to pick which feel I want for the comfort layers?

@@MURPHxiii No, S&F's coil unit is the same in firmer and plusher models. For the comfort layers, yes you will want to find a feel that works for you, however the layers above the springs also contribute to the "fit" from a spinal alignment and pressure relief standpoint (see our 3 F's explanation of how to choose a mattress here for more clarity on this: www.goodbed.com/guides/mattress-matching/), so you'll want to make sure to choose a model that works for you on those fronts as well.
