How to Instantly Run Better With 1 Simple Drill👇
One of the most underestimated ways for becoming a better runner is running without your arms.
Performing strides, sprints, short runs or drills with no arms is essential for teaching you correct running form.
Why no arms….
By removing the arms as a driver you are forced to focus on these key elements of your running.
- Top-end speed mechanics
- Optimal running positions
- Torso control
- How to contact the ground efficiently
- Work extra hard to get yourself off the ground
For me, the goal of any drill is to force you into the correct positions so that you can instantly feel what good technique is like and transfer it into your running.
This drill will naturally pull your hips up & underneath you and make you realise how important it is to not over or under push the ground but to find a sweet spot between forceful & reactive.
There are many variations to help you perform the drill.
Your options are……
- Stick over head
- Hand on hips
- Towel over head
- Hands clasped in front of body
You will get the same benefit either way, a stick or towel is just there for proprioception (sense of self-movement, force, and body position)
I usually do these before a workout as part of my final preparations or during technical sessions.
So next time you are focusing on your running technique, make sure you add in a few sets of these to set your body up for success.

That's why I like playing frisbee or baseball or football catch on the run. Your arms are in the air, brain is thinking about the ball and your legs are on auto-pilot. Your making those micro adjustment accelerations at speed w/o even thinking about it. To many over think their running. Run like your playing and it comes naturally.

More videos and resources coming sooon🏃‍♂️….my instagram also has a tonne of easy to consume running advice 👌 Break your training into 4 phases each phase consisting of 4 weeks…build up gradually to get body adapted well🏃‍♂️ Heres a basic how to for a marathon: Phase 1: Building the Foundations/Base + Increases mileage 10% each week at easy intensity + moderate short speed work 2x a week Phase 2: Introduce intervals, tempos & top end speed work + maintain mileage Phase 3: Get specific…start playing with race pace & above in intervals & get used to negative split strategy in long runs Phase 4 : Finishing touches, race strategy execution broken into segments , last hard workouts then begin to taper for RACE DAY!!!!🏁
