Tywin also responds to Joffrey's exasperation at having to climb a bunch of stairs by himself climbing the steps up to his throne. It demonstrates that he'll willingly walk up some steps, then challenges Joffrey's own ability and will by offering to waste the efforts of servants to carry Joffrey up. Yeah sure, the Starks won as the "alpha wolves" of their own packs, but the one most responsible for the new order in Westeros is actually Tyrion. In his first official Small Council, Bran has no interest in actual ruling, being contented with having Tyrion governing from the shadows. Also, if you look at previous seasons, the Hands often wield equal power, if not greater, than the Monarchs they serve. Just ask Jon Arryn, Ned Stark, and of course, Tywin Lannister. Of the Starks, I could say Sansa "won" the most, ruling over a war-torn, economically ruined North... but hey, independence aight. Lastly, "Power resides where men believe it resides. It's a trick, a shadow on the wall, and a very small man can cast a very large shadow."

I always wondered what the key to littlefinger and varys success was. Is it only because of littlefinger's incredible business acumen, and Varys spying, or is there charisma involved. Tyrion never has a plan and he is ultimately just a pawn in this grand chess game Varys and Little finger have been playing since the beginning of the show. If you want to make a video about other characters on Game of Thrones those two characters are the most interesting to talk about as neither of them were born with any power and are the most clever and strategic players in the entire show.

Right from season one Tyrion has been the smallest man but the _biggest personality_ (helps that writers make him outright the most entertaining and having a stronger moral compass than the books) . The primary reason I watch *Game of Thrones* is because of Tyrion.

Completely agree. Working 12 years in a crappy store with a lot of crappy bosses, it really opens your eyes and perspective that who is "in charge" is not always actually the person in charge. Everyone is a person with lots of flaws and strengths. Respect is earned for me with everyone, no matter the status.

I literally did this. Few years back I told the panel of interviewers: with all due respect, I'm interviewing you, not you interviewing me. They said: I'm sorry, what? I said: I know what I can bring to the table, I need to know who I'm working for and whether you can bring me to greater heights. They asked me when can I start

Yep, unfortunately interviews can be very dependent on the interviewer. If you get a young inexperienced person saying this, you'd throw them out the interview room. To be honest, it has to be more subtle. For me, I have certain things I want out of a job, and thus more tactful way is to ask whether they can provide what I need.

I love that you are doing this through the language of Game of Thrones. That is why we tell stories and why we are so connected to the characters. Because while we may not be a dwarf trying to win the trust of a lady with 3 dragons but we can take lessons from these stories and make the applicable to real life.
@songe853 жыл бұрын
I think that's something the consumer audience has lost. Not everyone mind you, but a decent portion of audiences don't watch/listen to media to learn from the story. What makes me sad about that, is we will lose good stories to learn from because the production of them won't be called for if we don't stay vocal about wanting them.

I don't think Dany is the best example of charisma. Her gullible and overly idealistic nature leads her to be blinded to the shifting desires of others close to her. She's become more and more self-assured in her own wisdom and actions whilst becoming less sympathetic to the behavioral shifts of her own people. Leads her to seem obnoxious. A Moral high horse is no way to win the favor of others around you. She also seems to lack a degree of self awareness, she knows how to play her strengths as you saw, but is unwilling to recognize her weaknesses, shielding her insecurities by compensating with bold actions instead, where as someone like tyrion acknowledges them and uses them to his own advantage. She's got a lot to learn quick if she doesn't want to die on her way to that throne.

+Erik Magyarsthetic She refuses to compromise in her beliefs which is exactly why she's win. She polarizes people, either you're on her side and you respect human decency, basic rights, and the power that she commands (with dragons) or you're not. Tyrion navigates a world of backstabbing and temporary allies and compromises all of which sets the stage to have the ground fall out from under you before you can think twice about it. Don't get me wrong Tyrion's damn good at working people, but that's the thing, he needs to leverage people to get loyalty, Dany doesn't.
@erikm66898 жыл бұрын
I respectfully disagree. Firstly dont project your modern set of moral values on a medieval fantasy world. In mereen she is imposing her own culture on others and the army she "freed" follows her every command. Some of which were Kill every man in a city where not all were guilty and crucify a set number of men in another picked at random whether proven guilty or innocent. Secondly Every character thus far that has not compromised and stuck halfheartedly to their values has wound up dead. Ned and Rob with their codes of Honor, Stannis with his uncompromising world view on justice (in the books they expand on his wish to impose his moral code and views on justice on to the realm). Much like Dany. The list goes on and on. Dany is not a good example of any real life situation. She survived the pyre and birthed dragons out of luck and superpowers. Even with her 3 dragons she almost found herself starving and locked out of Quarth due to her entitled attitude. Then almost assassinated by Dario if he hadn't have chosen to be friendly instead. Its at the whims of others that she has risen. Without her superhuman gifts, magical dragons, and companions that dius ex machina her plot along, she'd be dead. With all her power birth rites and whatnot. Only through the help of others like Jorah Xaro then Dario her Dragons etc does she even make it through the story. She is a terrible example. Born into a prestigious name. Gifted an army, dragons and magical abilities? who can relate to this? Tyrion on the other hand has been down trodden, his family name now means nothing, he has no wealth anymore, he no physical prowess but instead he works the world he has been given, playing the game better than anyone else. Youre wrong politics never collapses it is the code the world has always worked on. Rulers, Monarchs Systems of government now that collapses like so many stones into so much rubble. Baelish, Varys, Tyrion, Tywin These are the prime examples of what charisma speaks of they work the minds of people not fires and dragons. God that was long. here TL;DR: Dany power is not of this world and only works in GoT. Tyrion's Works anywhere.
@eight2168 жыл бұрын
Erik Magyarsthetic Well no fucking shit. It's a STORY, and in the real world i'd root for Tyrion because he's the smart player and that's the smart thing to do but it is a story with magically gifted princesses who ride dragons and shit and in that setting my money's on the magic dragon lady, not the dwarf. Also, in terms of those who stuck to their beliefs dying, first off the stark family never had dragons, if they did things may have gone differently, secondly Stannis was a pawn of the red woman which is a sort of compromise, allowing yourself to be swayed by someone elses vision, not to mention that he burned his daughter and for what? Ned Starks morals got in the way of him winning (he tried to conduct politics with honnor) and Stannis went to far. That's the thing about Danny, she might have been a hard ass sometimes but she's never made a compromise and she's never had to lose. Sure maybe it's all magic and luck but that kinda shit tends to attract a following all the same which might turn her base into more than just that (as it now already seems to be) Oh and don't you dare start that cultural relativism bullshit. I can agree that they've got a right to be pissed because she screwed with their way of life, but if you legitimately want to try and tell me that slavery is okay under any circumstances you need to seriously re-evaluate your moral code. (because morals aren't just some shit somebody made up, they are, should be, and in fact need to be something personal to yourself) TL;DR (cause my thing was probably just as long) It's fiction, and she hasn't made the same mistakes as either Stannis or the Starks. Also don't argue the morality of slavery.
@erikm66898 жыл бұрын
Way to completely ignore the Topic of the conversation.... If your read my comments properly you'd realize I was never talking about who is most likely to win. My comments is ENTIRELY about who is the most capable in ruling and controlling other (aka manipulating people and situation to their advantage). Using a dragon to win a war. Much like using a gun to win an argument does not make you the better strategist -__- Also did you just entirely ignore every other point I raised with the Hypocrisy of Dany's character only to talk about slavery and your morality again...wow typical Show watching Dany fan. Skipped bast the Crucifixion of citizens selected at random. Her US style policy of overthrowing governments without creating a system of governance that, so to leave a void of power for those far worse to take over the cities she had "freed" a couple months ago to be enslaved once again under crueler masters (read) the books or watch the show where Dario says "Some thug Butcher has taken the city". She is a horrible leader. You also missed my mention of her entitled self righteous attitude. So far 9/10 of her "accomplishments" have been gifted to her. Her stubborn inability to adapt to her environments and influence people with anything other than fear (or perhaps awe and titties). Has left her near death multiple times. E.g: The gates of Quarth, Negotiations in Quarth, The fighting pits of Mereen (dragon had to save them all), dealing with the Khals. Being fire proof is not a mode of manipulating situations and people. Using her mind she could have avoided these. So yes she's well positioned to win (although if the books progress down their normal thematic trajectory. She won't) But do you honestly think she displays the abilities of persuasion, manipulation, control, expression and awareness that this channel is about more so than Tyrion, Tywin, Baelish, Varyst etc? One last thing: "because morals aren't just some shit somebody made up, they are, should be, and in fact need to be something personal to yourself" Yes morals are "made up" seeing as the average Humans view of Morality in the 1100s was much different to the 2000s. It develops changes progresses and evolves. I personally despise the thought of slavery but you're once again projecting modern morals and values into a fantasy medieval based world. Remember how Drogo Raped Dany in the first season, or Ramsey raped sansa in S5. Well hate to break it to you, but according to the morality and laws of the time and world they live that wasn't rape to them. Although it was to me and you. P.S. If you havnt noticed one of the greatest themes of the entire show and books is Adaptation and progression, this is why characters that move with the times and accept the world for what it is becoming survive like Tyrion and those that rigidly adhere to the old status quo such as stanis, Rob, Ned and eventually Dany die. The show among other things is about a changing and progressing world, where legitimacy means less and less and and our modern concepts and political ideas emerge. Bravos and Baelish being prime examples of this. Anyways This was long as fuck but I just finished My major Presentation so I finally got around to replying :P. Not here to fight but I can't resist a good debate ;)

Tywin is overrated. Tywin didn't defeat Rob Stark. Rob's romance with the foreign doctor destroyed him. Tywin almost got killed by Aria and ultimately killed in the toilet. Tyrion is a drunk. Only a fool trust a drunk. Ignoring Tyrion is the only thing Dany does well but if someone isn't willing to kill Tyrion, he will stab Danny in the back because that is all Tyrion does well. He wished he killed his king and would kill his queen if she doesn't take his stupid advice that doesn't work.
