In this video, I will describe the five essential steps you need to follow to become a Randonneur. In addition, you will be able to follow Germaine through her journey to complete her first 200km brevet and become a Randonneur.
All footage was captured on my hand held iPhone 12 and processed with the standard iPhone software.

I want to be a super randeneuur. I love cycling. My cycle is the only thing which prevented me from suicide. I was depressed. I am still working on it but I wouldn't be alive if it weren't for my bike. I love you raptor 💕. And also I was never given a bike. My "dad" bought me a cheap bike whose pedal fell off and then he blamed me for it. My mom spent her whole monthly salary just to buy me the bike I liked. I love you for that mama ❤️. I did justice with that bike. I rode so much on it that even a bike costing 5x would have been worth buying. Now I have to do justice to cycling. I can't imagine a life without cycling. And I'll be a super proud super randeneuur 😇

My preferred bike - Bob Jackson 1960s track bike. Single speed (freewheel) on 48:18 gearing. Reynolds steel frame, repainted and original decals and badge acquired from the factory. Longest ride so far, 400km and a Brooks saddle makes it even more comfortable. Ride safe :-)

Great video. I like how you go into the psychology of the events which is often overlooked. These rides are no joke and you can go to some dark places in an attempt to finish. For me it is about not stopping for too long or else my body starts to shut down.

Start at 100km max to see the if you like it and progress steadily up the distance, once confident try to do a DIY to see how cope solo, feeding is individual as weather depicts eating strategy and your body, my best advice is keep eating small but often as not to delete your energy levels. But the biggest thing is mental overcome that only your body will tell you how far to go.

Thanks for the awesome advice. I will definitely try to do a 100km max ride and then extend the distance at 10 percent lower effort. I have a long winter here in western Canada so will start this on Zwift in the coming months.

I trained up to a 160 km solo ride (20 kph average), but was not prepared to the 200 K brevet in which I rode with a group. I drank too little and rode too hard (27kph) so ended up with cramps for the last 80 k. But still I had fun. Maybe next time I should try my roadbike and not my MTB :-) Hold that thought.. they're doing a 200K gravel version in september nearby ... hmmm... #tempting

Good stuff! Are you guys trying to ride PBP next year? I just discovered you can pre register for it, if you complete a longer Brevet in the previous year. So spontaneously I try to finish a 600k two weeks from now...I'm beyond excited! Best wishes from Germany!🤗✌️

I grew up in South Africa at a time when running ultra distance events was extremely popular The most popular event was an 89km running race called the Comrades Marathon. Almost every family in the community I grew up in had a member participating in this race when I was a kid. When I was old enough I ran the race as part of the community tradition. Now living in Canada in midlife and having a bad ankle from breaking it on the ice, I participate in long distance cycling as the closest activity to replicate and continue the tradition of running the Comrades Marathon.

What kind of bikes are best for it Aluminum, Carbon or Steel and why?
@reganarendse6157
@reganarendse6157 2 жыл бұрын
I think you should use the bike that is most comfortable and yet most efficient at transferring power to speed. I exclusively use carbon frames which are the lightest and save the most energy. However I found that of the various bike geometries, the gravel bike design is the most comfortable for the ultra distance events as I am able to sit more upright and there’s less strain on neck and shoulders. The gravel bike also accommodates wider tires which are equally efficient to narrow tires but has the benefit of additional shock absorbency and fewer pinch flats. What is your preference?

Hi Stefano. I think you are asking if the designation of Randonneur is permanent after completing just a single 200km brevet. Yes, as far as I am aware it is a lifetime designation. You don’t have to do any other brevets or longer distances to maintain the designation. Thanks for asking

Hello Stefano. Indeed as Regan answer. Once you completed a sanctioned ride under Cut Off Time, the result will then be homologated and recorded in ACP database. You will then get a homologation number.
