I literally got my call and had my orientation yesterday. I will be indentured and paying my first due’s tomorrow morning. I’m in my early 30s it’s never too late! With zero experience in Northern California i start at $30/hr + full benefits and get a 3 dollar raise every 6 months until I finish the 4 year apprentice and become a journeymen carpenter which is $55/hr I’m beyond excited!

@Dreadz530

@@georgecleancut2853 I never said anything about North Carolina I’m talking about Northern California. Right now without benefits we have four regions the highest being right under $58/hour and the lowest being $49.97 an hour. They just passed some huge bills and propositions dumping billions into construction and all kinds of tax breaks (there were huge projects on hold do budget and the tax being too high so with these new changes it’s allowed them to get moving). Our master agreement ends in July and with the new one they have negotiated us raises for the next few years so our wage go up something like $4 dollars this year, then $5 for ‘24, ‘25 is $5, etc. If I remember correct it’s something like a 25 dollar raise to wages over the next 4-5 years. There’s also a small increase on pension, annunity, vacation but nothing like the jump for wages (we already have a great package compared to a lot of places I had looked at and most are half what we get it’s crazy) since our benefits package is already up over $45 an hour. A first term apprentice makes 60% and goes up evenly until journey. I’ve also been told that technically we should get $1 an hour extra for each year of journey and that’s makes sense a new journeyman shouldn’t recieve the same pay as a 6 year, especially since we have to take extra classes and get more training each year it’s not just the work on the job site if someone has more qualifications on their card then they def should make more. Our total hourly pay is actually starting at 34 and change so we will say $34 on check + $45 benefit package so an apprentice walking on the job site for the first time in their life is making $79 an hour and his journeyman teaching him if he’s a first year journey is $57+$45 = $102/ hour. After July it will be a little over $106/hour or about $61 and change/hour on check. Sure California has high rent but if wasn’t worried about it I could easily rent an apartment for under even shoot high 2k a month I was just seeing some incredible houses for 2800-3500 a month and we are paid every Friday. Working (5) 10 hour shifts a week covers the bills the 10 hours of over time are paid at 1.5x so those two hours a day is an extra almost 200 bucks daily. I can cover rent purely off about 2 weeks overtime pay alone. I was looking into different locals because I thought maybe once I journey out I’d want to move to a different state or even down to say Los Angeles or San Diego but even the So Cal wages and benefits package aren’t as good as ours so I’d be taking a pay cut if I moved anywhere out of my region and in some cases our 1st period apprentice makes more then the journeys and foreman would make so it looks like I’ll be planting my ass here for quite awhile. Maybe once I’m not worried about money I’d explore some other places but as far as making money I honestly don’t see a better place to be in so if anyone has some better options then above let me know I’d love to look at different areas but I won’t give up the $100+ an hour pay scale 😂

Hey bro. this story was inspiring and almost similar to my story as I began my journey as a union carpenter..bro, i too was laid off from my job at a hospital in Sf at the time, i had small children and had to go back to stay with my mother and oneday there was a flyer circulating threw her community that said do i want to make $28.00 an hr..At this point i needed to find work so i could take care of my kids and get out if moms house so at this point i didnt have nothing to lose. I go and meet up a couple of key players of the program they were trying to offer but would have to be tested, take classes and if i did well pass the construction courses i would have an opportunity to be first in line for the pre apprenticeship program. So i did very well and got put in there to give me the basic skills and building techniques and after graduation i choose were my skills were the most strongest, which were readjng a tape measure, i could pound a nail pretty good, and could take instuctions well, i could work as a team. before we graduated from the PA program i had a decision to make and that was what trade would i think id be good at, I prayed about it and then i choose to be a carpenter, i found out that i liked working with my hands, being out in the elements and that i wanted to be a part of creating things in this world. I got indentured as an apprentice carpenter in sept.2010 and still standing strong as a journeywoman carpenter 14 years later. The trades really change my life for me and my family, good wages, health and welfare a pension& annuity and vacation pay like clock work, journeyman upgrade courses to insure im .mastering my craft and growing, leadership courses its just an awesome opportunity to be a part of and Im Proud to be apart of a 1st class organization as a sister in the brotherhood.#STAYSTRONG#KEEP FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT#UNION CARP PROUD💪💪 .

Here in Ohio you make 17.90 to start. Carpenters make about $55,000 base in Ohio. You also get medical, dental, vision, and pension. Also, with any skill like this, going solo is a possibility and the sky is the limit with that. Besides that, if you do cabinets or speciality carpentry the sky is the limit as well, but being employed you’re looking at about 65-75k. Heavy Highway (bridge building) can get you about $40 an hour as well. (About 80)
@unscriptedwithantonio
@unscriptedwithantonio 2 жыл бұрын
I can see that. Ohio is a fairly conservative state. i assume it doesn't have a strong union presence. But its all relative to where you live. Oregon's cost of living is pretty high. You can make a lot of money working for yourself. The risk is much is higher so is the reward. I think the most important part is inquiring the skills and tools.

Any advice on felon’s getting started
@unscriptedwithantonio
@unscriptedwithantonio 9 ай бұрын
I'm making a video on that exact topic today. Being a felon hasn't stopped me at all. In fact, it has never really come up. Their are even programs that help felons get into the union. It all depends on your location.

So I’m struggling to find the right sponsor right now and it’s really hard to find a sponsor. I finally got an interview with one but it’s not the work I wanna do. I wanna work more in the city doing big buildings. Should I just get a sponsor and go to school and finish my three years to four years there and then go to a different company later on? Let’s say I get them as a sponsor in a big company comes my way and wants to hire me. Is it wrong if I leave them and go to the bigger company.

The most important thing is getting a job. Once you get a job attend union meetings and while your in class keep your ears open. Most guys don't work for the same company for their whole career. You will have opportunities in future. Trust me.

@@asiancambo21 some unions are different. But I would just be honest. If you find another that's going to hire you. I would yell your employer. Never burn bridges. You might need to work with them again in the future.

This vid stand out from other carpenter vid who say the job pay shit and worst job to do. You make sound like hard work does pay off if you work union. I heard theres carpenter union in northern Ontario and i am wondering if i should say good bye being close to Toronto or not just to get a neat job. I personally rather do cabinet making. However the job isnt as handcrafting as it used to be. So i might look into union carpentry and see if moving north is worth it or not

We actually make more then that because benefits are extra they don’t come out of our pay. We get like $11 for health, $9 for pension, 4.95 for vacation, and a few others so our on paper is almost 90 an hour for journey
