@@mikereiss4216 Proud female progster here. You're being incredibly sexist. It's one thing to say that you've never seen many women at prog concerts. But to say that the presence of women in the audience automatically makes a band not prog is another thing altogether. Say you went to a Yes concert--and I mean '70s Yes, not any of that recent stuff--and the audience was half women. Are they suddenly not prog? Defining a genre by the gender of its fans would be ridiculous even if it wasn't misogynistic. And by the way, there are female prog rockers. Have you heard of the band Renaissance? Henry Cow?

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand progressive music. The music is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the complexities will go over a typical listener’s head. There’s also prog’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into its characterisation- its personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these songs, to realise that they’re not just great songs- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike prog truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humour in Porcupine Tree’s existential lyrics “Arriving somewhere but not here,” which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev’s Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Steven Wilson’s genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂 And yes, by the way, i DO have a Dream Theater tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It’s for the ladies’ eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they’re within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎

Yo want to hear something crazy, my friend legit told me that country musicians are generally more talented than any other genre. I brought up jazz, she said it didn't count because it wasn't popular, and then she told me that metal music doesn't take talent. Weird that she doesn't play any music..... This was especially insulting as I've been playing guitar(dappling in jazz, mostly the blues and rock) for sixish years, my other friend who's been playing the guitar for about as long, and my friend who's been a pianist for 10 years who plays jazz. We argued this for like half an hour and we still couldn't convince her. She also thinks that the members of the Zac brown band are more talented than the Beatles.
