I love this song. The songwriting reminds me of Springsteen, with specific character names and full narratives. Beautiful.

One of the reasons why she connects with Rebekah is because the neighbors at Holiday House hated Taylor and said she ruined the neighborhood. She was too loud, she brought the media to the neighborhood, and was just not the type of person they wanted around. There was a bunch of media about this in the early 2010s. I’m guessing once Taylor researched her she also identified with being an eccentric and feeling misunderstood

@@markabusireactions I think you are being honest, learning as you go, and offering your own unique perspective on everything. The reason I love watching reactions, is because I often get different insights and meanings to songs I have loved and perceived in my own way from MY own unique experiences in life. It makes her songs even more beautiful to me, and what's more, Taylor designs her work to be open to everyone's own experiences and perceptions. I appreciate what you're bringing to the table here!

I think you’re correct on the meaning of the song. I feel like Taylor is describing Rebekah’s life as someone who came into money and people are having a field day blaming her for all sorts of crap just because they can. Like a typical reaction to a woman who now has money or something like that. Rebekah is like - fine, I’m sure I ruined everything! Whatever, I had a marvelous time “ruining everything”.

Don't put yourself down, the issue stems from a difference of cultures, but you seemed to get the gist of it at the end. I loved the little chuckle over the dog being dyed key lime green.

Great reaction, I love this song and like you I’m a newish swiftie (i have always being a casual listener but the last year more or less I’ve became a full on swiftie after deep diving into her discography). Now about the song, as I’ve learned she bought this huge mansion in a pretty tradicional old money part of the US, I’m talking generational fortunes so when she moved in with her new money and her pop princess they weren’t happy at all. And that was in tune with the story of the previous owner of the house Rebeka Harkness i don’t remember if she got rich or married into a rich old money family and was a pretty scandalous socialite for the time so the neighbors criticized her and complained (probably the same families too having in mind the generation after generation old money vibe of the area).

It would be very interesting to see you react to her Lover album, which is a pop album with very pop hooks and production that you don't usually listen to but it has some of her best-written songs. Great reaction btw, you understood the song well!

I can't choose between folklore and evermore, but they are my favorite albums (which, for me, is saying a lot because I love almost all of her albums). Even my least favorite TSwift album (her self-titled debut album) is still enjoyable for me. I hope you can continue to find the Long Pond session clips of her talking about each song even though, in this case, you did not seem to find the discussion very helpful. And you should definitely follow up folklore with evermore. (But, unfortunately, there isn't anything equivalent to the Long Pond Sessions for evermore.)

I mean, it’s not so much that it wasn’t helpful, I just didn’t know who they were talking about lol. But it gave me an insight into the thought process behind the story of the song, which did help a lot!

I love this song, personally. My favorite thing in country music (…generally older, pre-9/11 country music, truthfully) is a good story that has some kind of pivot at the end. I think it’s fun. For that Americana sound… I’m not sure if Halsey is more alternative and not country enough, but I feel like “Drive” hits that mood for me. It’s not my favorite song of theirs, but it’s the closest to that style, I think? (Not sure I could pick a favorite, anyway. I listen to their whole discography on loop.) Otherwise… Hmm. Oh, what about “Southern Sisyphus” by Whiskey Shivers? It might swing too far country, but I do love that, too… Not making reaction requests, just trying to help you find more of the genre since you said you don’t have many bands that fit. Although, if you DO listen, I’d love to hear whether that’s the vibe you meant or not. I listen to a lot of Taylor Swift and Halsey, yes, but half the other bands I listen to are usually like… under a hundred spotify listeners. 😂 Not trying to be a hipster or anything-I mean, Taylor Swift is the most popular artist in the world right now, bit hard to be a hipster and a Swiftie without also being a hypocrite. I just like finding new things to listen to. Like… If you keep digging for specific enough songs to hit certain moods, it’s inevitable that you’ll eventually start finding things like “Coastal Sweetheart” by Brombogeepazzle. Right? …maybe not. 😂

@@markabusireactions Oh, it’s not any specific genre that I go down rabbit holes for. “Heaven’s Target” by presence3x is a rap song that had so few listens that I was able to singlehandedly raise it in the singer’s rankings by listening to it all the time. 😂 I don’t like most radio rap music, but I wanted to try to branch out, you know?
