Today I revisit a topic that made a huge impact on my life, and one that played a huge role in convincing me to make videos in the first place. Please enjoy
Hey everyone. My name is Nicholas and I make videos most about my experiences with minimalism, frugal living, tech, and things of that nature 🌱. I like to make content that feels like you're having a coffee with a friend ☕. So if that sounds good to you consider subscribing and I'll see you in the next one ✏️.

Another helpful tip is “focus on what you can change right now” this has helped me look to what is essential right now.

I'm on the process of decluttering almost everything that I own. I already tackled my clothes and my book collection, and now I only have the essentials. During the whole process this is what I've been having in mind: keeping what is essential to live a meaningful life. I think this video captures perfectly this lifestyle. Congrats Nick!

I haven’t heard of “Essentialism”, but to me it sounds like living an intentional life for you with no ifs and buts… I made the decision a while ago to live intentionally, and although I have only done one major thing (retired at 49 yesterday) I am so excited to see what my future will bring. I am going to be open to thoughts and ideas, but I am not going to be pushed in any direction that I don’t want to go in, and I will forge ahead with what I want to do regardless of what others think. I am very fortunate to have the most amazing friends who will support me whatever I do, so guess what? They are my priority too! Interesting video. Thank you for educating me…..

The difficult part is determining what is essential and what is not. I’ve been prioritizing for years and of course, it works. But many opportunities, wonderful outcomes and life changing events came as a consequence of something I wasn’t supposed to focus on. Something that if I followed my initial plan would have never happened. This is the organic nature of life. Causality can be strange. While at a level we can all be essentialists, by abandoning habits and rituals that don’t serve us, at a higher level, where several important priorities compete for the same limited time and resources, it becomes difficult. It’s easy when you compare important with not-so-important. It’s easy when you compare productive with non-productive. It becomes challenging when you compare good to great opportunities or even great to great. After reading at least a dozen books on time management and prioritization, it’s still hard to “first things first.”. For entrepreneurs, creatives or anyone working in a non-hierarchal structure, it is best to combine essentialism with letting things unfold.

Thank you for video, this book was really great, I like to read such literature to keep the mindset in right direction and for a little bit motivation, waiting for another one recommendation 😃 in my case I quit my job year ago for having the ability to enjoy this life what is priceless for me (my hobbies, walkings, enjoying nature, absorbing this life, spending time with loved ones) Now incomes is less but quality is much more as for my values. Happiness is to have/become exactly what YOU want, often we don't need all the stuff, just OUR stuff ahah

I got to put this into practice just yesterday when my SIL texted that she had a free ticket to a show last night, did I want to go? I at first thought about how she would feel if I said no and let her down. Then I told myself this was a good opportunity, I SHOULD just go. But ultimately I needed rest and downtime from a hectic week, and I wrote back and thanked her but said no. This might be easy for some people, but I've always felt guilty saying no. I'm thinking looking more into Essentialism might be good for me. 😉

I used to spend so much time deciding on what clothes to wear to work. It was tiring and most of the time irritating tk find the proper pair. But with minimalism, I now only have the essentials and that to me is Black and White shirts and jeans. Now, it is easier to pair clothes.

You're sounding & looking great Nick. I cleared a space in my kitchen yesterday. Put down an old favourite tablecloth, mellow yet sunshiney colours....all i put there was a small framed photo with a deep blue sky . I will just put notebooks, pens, pencils there now. A small vase of one or two faux plant/flower stems too. Eucalyptus stems are great to look at. And, because i have not wanted to replace my tv for a year now, i've bought a portable cd player and cds of Bach lute music, and Cafe del Mar mixes. It will be good to hear my cds ring out again in my kitchen , specially when it's raining softly outside.. Got abit tired of earplugs. 👍🧡🌱💜🌿

Another great video. I am married with two kids. Essentialism is difficult to negotiate when there are 4 of you who want competing things, joint activities and you want your children to have opportunities. I did a lot of work on mid-life a couple of years ago. There is a concept of the first part of life is building who you are and is about learning, growth, experimenting etc. During the second part of life, you know who you are and what you are about and are content to focus on the essentials. The stage of transition can be from mid twenties to 80! Not sure how Essentialism fits into this. Perhaps as a way of coping with the stress and demands of modern life - try a few things, then try some different things. Follow one path as far as it goes and it might change into something else. Essentialism seems to be about focus and also reflection, which may help the building phase and then the midlife transition

Hi Nicholas, I do agree with you, for many years I was saying yes to a lot of work if not people, trying to please everyone until I got sick, now, I prefer giving my best to fewer things and I can say it did improve the quality of my work, relationship and my life since my anxiety is almost gone now. Stay true to yourself, that is the most important thing.

I've never been hesitant to say 'NO" as I am my own. It's personal choices and we satisfy our own selves first. Being true to YOU, never feel you have to explain your own choices/self. Over the years I've come to dislike nor use the word 'busy'. It's lame and a cop out for many. I so much agree Nicholas there's the 'productive busy'. When I can end my day on a high note knowing my task lists, house chores all were accomplished I'm feeling good n high. This was yet another awesome compelling video Nicholas. I plan to find the book 'Essentialism. Namaste!

Planning my entire day with a schedule.Knowing how much time daily chores actually take. For example Floss + brush teeth 8 minutes, shave 7 minutes, shower 18 minutes, dry up + finish up 4 minutes. Give or take 45 minutes in the bathroom in the morning. How can I be more efficent and reduce that time? If I plan my day including time, I can have a successful day.

Great to have an update on essentialism from you. Really agree with the saying no more often. It’s kind of minimalism for the brain, just doing what you need to do. The cost of time is underrated, it’s something we can’t get back so it is important to work out what’s more important, if that makes sense 😂 One of the problems I have is too many hobbies and too many different things I want to do, I guess scaling back would be a better idea and it’s something I’m currently working on. And your videos are deffo getting better, they were great before but you can see how your improving. Great video again buddy.

Great contents thank you. My concern is over thinking, constantly analysing, weighing up etc. Its exhausting. I need to take full responsibilty because has said to a colleague recently, if we keep doing the same thing, we will keep getting the same result. I am trying to re align, re evaluate and re focus. There is a lot of information out there that quite frankly is too much and very consuming, complicated and too much for us to cope with, thats why we are burnt out, exhausted and even depressed. Its making us like mini computers, in putting and then deleting, storing and processing, and for me i just cannot cope with it all. Give me a library and hot chocolate and my little cat Joey and i am a happy bunny. Take care Nick.
