I'm glad we finally got one of these in! I could see this being an awesome summer "getaway" camper parked at something like a seasonal site!
The living space and storage are excellent but the real surprise to this one for me is that bedroom. Decked out with a stackable washer/dryer prepped closet and even a full 2nd fireplace/entertainment center it's the perfect place to catch up on a show before dozing off for the night!

This’ one gets an A+. Love the free floating chairs instead of conjoined theater seats. Love that we can get it with table and chairs. Like the little outside fridge Great bedroom storage, and like two fire-less places. Really the only change I’d make is to extend the counter in the bathroom, like you suggested..

We've owned our 2021 version of this since November 2020. We really love the floorplan and we have it setup on a perm site at our campground in mid-Georgia. We did have the 2nd AC put in. The kitchen is actually big enough TWO people can cook/prep in. We added struts to the bed storage and a 5 ft tall metal shelf next to the bath sink for open storage.

I love that you pointed out how bad the bed is. Yours isn't the only RV channel I watch, and I always chuckle when I see someone lay down on a bed and almost wince when they lie and say how comfy it is. 🤣 Random thought, but I think I watched 10 or 12 of your videos before it dawned on me that Uncle Gary was a character. Like the booth dinette because you can sleep kids on it and the hide a bed is light years ahead of a jackknife sleeper! Yes, turn the toilet! The extra fireplace is very nice, with full hook ups you don’t have to use your propane!

got one! We added a top drawer in the kitchen. added another door under the sink so I don't have to remove the panel for winterizing. added a door to access the space under the refrigerator. Added faux tile to backsplash. Changed the mattress and added air lifter shocks under bed. We opted to not have washer/dryer so I boxed in a shelf at the exterior door height and added a curtain rod. This isolates the interior from the outside access. I also moved the bedroom TV to the top of cabinet and moved the doors down. All of these changes could have been done at the factory. We also rotate the chairs as soon as we get set up. We love it!!!!! Put about 8000 miles on it the first year from Alabama to Miami, then to North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and to the Alabama beach several times.

We just bought this model. As CPAP users, we needed the bedside nightstands and outlets. The little shelves were too small for the machines so we put the CPAP's in the upper cabinets. Works well for us.

@@JoshtheRVNerd We're stationary. This camper had a variety of possibilities. The entertainment sucks like you said. So we moved the recliners all the way to the peninsula wall so we can have direct view TV watching. We're eventually going to replace them with wall hugging recliners. Rearranging the recliners opened up the living area considerably.

I have heard that the fridge takes a beating when installed on the back.??? I love rear kitchens but If I was rich and a RV manufacturer, I would place the fridge on the passenger side. This would allow access when the slide is closed when travelling and place the sink on the rear. I would move the toilet to the sink side to accommodate more space for disabled users and extend the sink countertop to the cupboards with the cubbies facing forward. I would use this unit for travelling and when it's parked. I use my small travel trailer when parked in my driveway for guests. My house is small, so they have access to all the amenities. I am used to small spaces so just shifting and reversing something can make all the difference in the world. Thank you for sharing new pipe dreams.

If towed a lot, then it can. I really feel like this is the type of model that's best used when parked at a destination though which basically eliminates that corner to the largest degree.

We just put in for this. We do have a half ton But we have the highest axel ratio on a ram 2022 laramie plus we are getting the stablizers and everything from the dealers. Glad me got the higher ram the lower axels would be iffy pulling it

Great transparency as always. And it’s great to see that you haven’t changed even though the name of the store has… just as you promised! Shame that the fridge is lost in transit, but as a destination trailer, it’s not much of an issue. So funny about the mattress! I wish RV manufacturers would stop putting any mattress in their RV’s to cut down on waste and instead standardize to a few sizes and allow customers to get the right mattress the first time.

I absolutely love this lay out. the recliners and the hide-a-bed. PERFECT. I would this as a park trailer, but also great for private land while building the home. I need a functional kitchen, with counter space. This hits the nail on the head. The bathroom, they need to figure out how to center the toilet or turn it on an angle. Even the "average" plus 10 lbs person, would find it uncomfortable. Especially bashing your left elbow. I have just been in the version of this with the bunk in the rear, and they managed to make the toilet positioning a little better. Love this, but Coachmen, please change the bathroom.

Being thinner is great but it's alot of work. I would rather be huge and wide and not have to try to fill up the space. As Josh said if your still with me I'm referring to a huge and wide park trailer. 🤣🤣

Hi Josh! I love this Catalina! It’s like the old Chevy Catalina name. I loved these cars too! The only I don’t buy it can be fixed is the toilet needs to be turned sideways a bit other wise it’s a great travel trailer. I love the fact it comes with a washer/ dryer hook up. I think I might if I could find a place to park it for a while. Thank you Josh!

Love the big counter tops. I agree with you about the bathroom counter top needing to be longer. With they would put drawers under the dinette! But most of all, I wish they would put regular Queen beds in the camper!! I currently have a camp Queen and I hate it!!

Love all of the counter and storage space in the kitchen. The living area is great, love the hide a bed. Would like a table and chairs instead of the dinette. Agree, the toilet needs to be angled a little. Did I see a shade on the door window? Nice. Speaking of wontows 🤣, I love how many windows it has. Love the cloth side valances. I would put a Coca-Cola boarder above the windows. Not too happy with the stainless steel refrigerator, they can be hard to keep clean. It is “Shines” at storage. I would tow it, but stay in one place for 2 - 3 weeks.

First saw this model at an RV show in Feb 2020. The wife fell in love with the '3S' as you call it. Within a few minutes we were sitting down and chatting with 2 other couples in the living area - that has never happened at an RV show; and thanks to COVID hasn't since - that was probably the last time we 'talked to strangers'. The living space was just so welcoming and spacious and bright - this one is meant for entertaining. I agree that the toilet should be turned a few degrees, that would be an easy fix for Coachmen. But Catalina is a very basic line, so there is lots of upgrading to do here. I would also love to see them adopt the Versalounge here (I know, that's FR's thing); even better entertaining. Actually makes the 27RKS a very good similar floorplan with higher features.

Josh in the intro, you said that you went to the paint store & bought some paint thinner but it didn’t work for you, you went to the wrong store. Next time go to the office supply store and buy some erasers & erase the weight off🤣🤣.The free floating chairs are just right for some people, but we ain’t them. We are recliner people. T.T. & fifth wheels with rear kitchens have more space than others unless you have a KIA packed full of hundred dollar bills to go towards buying a NewMar Class A & get a larger middle kitchen. All jokes aside this one wouldn’t be sitting as a park model. We would need the second AC down here in Texas. On the scale of one to ten this is a 9. After our mods it would be a 10+10 Josh another 👍👍👍👍👍

Yes, angle the toilet….other than that great bathroom. Love that bedroom too!! Great windows, great closet, no ugly “headboard”!!! Great unit…even though there’s no outdoor kitchen.

The two fireplaces I think is it's best feature. What a way to offset cooler weather. It's a good park model, well thought out for that. But I wouldn't do continuous travel with that one. That's not it's forte. You hit the nail on the head with that mattress assesment, that was funny. Again, thanks for the honesty.

If I were looking for something for a 3/4 ton it would be good. I would change the toilet, turn it about 10 to 15 deg clockwise. I like a table and chairs rather than the built in dinning.

13:40 I do, which is why I’ve said it numerous times❗️ Not only will the manufacturer save a little money they can pass onto the customer, but the dealerships can add mattresses to their Parts Department (don’t have to carry them all in stock since most are now mailed to the customer) and/or partner with Mattress Stores nearby & earn a piece of the action‼️ 🛏 👍🏽

It's funny how rarely this layout is found in fifth wheels now vs years ago when it was so common. RK fifth wheels have really struggled in recent years despite there being some amazing layouts

Like this one. The interior wall and cabinet color is comfortable and inviting. The window valence you pointed out is a very classy and nice touch. The rear slider side windows are a great feature for light and the feel of the inside. Plus you get an out bank feel. I like the lumpy shower stall liner. I also think your suggestion of turning the toilet 20 to 30 degrees towards the rear would do wonders for sitter comfort and elbow room. I like how the exterior body and trim colors coordinate and pop out on this trailer. Overall, a nice 3/4 ton towable trailer.

@@JoshtheRVNerd to answer your question on towing verses seasonal set up, I am not really sure. The best I would respond with is probably a mixed use. Probably some towing for extended trips, but due to its size and weight and how bulky it is, maybe select an area I am interested in, picking a site be it remote or in a park somewhere, drop it and use it as a base camp for a limited period of time to explore the area then re-hook and move on to the next destination. The reason for dropping is the size of is limits accessibility to a number of potential destinations. You can go a whole lot of places with a pickup truck without the trailer behind it for day trips within a 50 to 150 mile circle.

I had a 1973 Catalina and it was a big boat too. Nice RV my only constructive criticism would be to have speakers that angled down or just lower the speakers. I am probably one of the few that will turn on a local radio station to listen to weather and news to learn of any bad weather on the horizon. I do use my phone also but still like the local weather report. I hope with how big it is it is not the light weight flooring and roof they started to use on some, just to big for that. Idea for the laundry closet split it half. Inside is enough room for a combo unit, outside a bigger cargo door and a fridge. That way the kitchen would get that storage back since the furnace and water heater can't be moved.

We want a good price point, but more than that one we can make our home. I'm really excited about this Change of plans. Love the parks and have always camped. What tt would you pick? I do like this one but I most definitely need it to be about 10 feet shorter. YES turn the toilet!!! For goodness sake, some people might have mobility issues and having more space around the toilet would help. The bedroom is great except for the bed size/mattress issue. I think manufacturers should start doing either no mattress or a nice, residential mattress from the get-go. And all fans should be the bigger remote MaxAir type fans. No more 4-inchers.

upgraded refrigerator, upgraded solar with inverter (for the fridge) instead of a booth style dinette use 4 chairs and a table, ok Josh im not trying to get on your good side but this really can use a back and side splash on the stove, bigger TV, extended counter in the bathroom with shelves and maybe a trashcan, and i might agree on the toilet i would have to sit and see, idea for the bedroom tv space, put removable shelves (book case) , i have to agree on the mattress, needs a true queen, any storage under the bed? would need support pistons for the bed? collapsible ladder connects for the roof?, automatic levelers for the exterior, just my opinions all in all not bad, im actually thinking about this one, but seriously it needs solar, i do dry camping

Josh: Slideout questions from the slide adverse choir. What you saild t 17:00 set me wondering If the slide is retracted and not deployed, is the table or the bed useable? With few exceptions you should not occupy slides if retracted. I have never found an issue with slipping thru real quick for a travel stop but it’s not recommended usually to USE the slide when closed up Basically there needs to be support under the inside-line of the slide floor. It’s built expecting to be supported once extended Wheels under it can change that equation a bit (like on many bed slides)

Yeah table and chairs, recliners, counter space, larger shower, bathroom storage, washer/dryer prepped, propane yeah, and outside fridge . Ucky back breaker matress, no fridge access in road mode, so you can't use the washer/dryer unless you have a 3 way sewer connection, do they even make one? But only a few drawbacks otherwise not bad, I'd buy it. Not my perfect camper but pretty close.

My rule of thumb is if it’s over 25 ft. Or over 6000lbs DRY it’s NOT 1/2 ton towable and even then you need the heavy duty tow package on your 1/2 ton for it to be 1/2 ton towable. Everything else go with a 3/4 or 1 ton and smile at your family when you reach your campsite alive!

To me it would come down to price differences on simmular floor plans from other manufactures. That high of a step in shower might be a no go for senior citizens with bad knees. Yes that mattress must go. As for the bed side shelves they need to be longer and wrap around a bit onto the trim board. Those sliding glass doors on the shower were a problem in our current 5th, so they got up and got lost somewhere. No reason the whole sink cabinet can not be wider. Love the movable recliners.

That shower step is an unfortunate near-requirement for trailer production due to plumbing codes. They have to make sure there's enough of a run-down to properly empty into a holding tank or something like that. It's been a while since I looked into it. Sometimes it does seem like some RVs have more dramatic steps than others, though..

I was looking forward to this one. The only real issue for me is the toilet position. Like you said a little rotation might help. A couple of hiccups keeps this from checking all the boxes. I would gladly give up the outside fridge for waste basket space inside. 2nd ac all day every day I would rather be cold than hot. That bed slide needs the side shelves and window deleted. Would prefer windows on the side for cross breeze. Still definitely in my top 10 though.

Not a bad setup, but the lack of pass thru storage is a killer for me, but I like the "propanus" cause I'm childish like that.. Lol and the foldable luggage tote. Would be nice to have a freestanding table and chairs.. Maybe a small table between the recliners... And for CPAP in bedroom, my cord is lo g enough, I could mount an angle bracket and a ledge with a lip higher up on the slide wall ( like a Montana does).. But the lack of pass thru is really a killer for me

On the question of CPAP, the standard hose length is 6ft, using a side stand would probably require you to go to a longer hose like 9ft.. I personally wouldn't want a longer hose because they can get caught/tangled and the results when you pull on the machine are generally not good. Also, personally preference, I'd want my machine closer so I could manual turn on/off.

It's definitely a lot lighter than simular sized 5th wheels so it's possible to tow it without an A restricted licence in Ontario and probably every other jurisdiction in North America.

You've addressed all of my concerns and I agree with your solutions! Question: I've heard comments from RV owners that say never buy a unit that has a rear wall refrigerator. Is there value in that thought? People also say not to get a refrigerator on a slide. Again, any thoughts??? I definitely wish the slide side windows opened, or even existed in the bed slide. Being able to move the recliners to better see the television is an option, just not crazy about that solution. Definitely would purchase a new mattress so leave it out. As for the CPAP, I am a CPAP iser with a humidifier. I also use an oxygen concentrator that takes up floor space. So the term "CPAP friendly" usually falls extremely short on managing that aspect. I wish the manufacturers would be more friendly on that requirement. Love the R&P tech on the slides. Ouch on the three gray & black water tank pipes! Ending analysis, I was interested based on the floor plan. After the tour, too many boxes left unchecked. - Dan

*REAR WALL FRIDGE:* Less awesome if you're traveling a lot. As more of a park-use camper (in my view) this layout doesn't bother me having the fridge back there. Residential Fridges have struggled getting bounced back there. Plus everything in the fridge gets jostled pretty good *FRIDGE IN A SLIDE:* Considering that's virtually the default configuration of fifth wheels I struggle to see how that would be a prohibitive feature Thx for watching and sharing!!

normally tv placement would suck, even though nowhere else to put it, but you can turn recliners to face it, move em around, get small table to use near them, side front, set of those folding food tray things perfect size things. etc. so no natter in that case, 3 dump tubes is a pain, but as a single man i only wash clothes once a week 2 loads anyway, can go longer if feel like it, just means more loads. moving the hose to drain that once a month or whatever much that can hold is not a problem when hookups right next to you anyway, like in a park or your destination type spot probably has, what would be a pain is doing all 3 at a dump station.... people behind you.. ok theres 1 tank, and theres 2, now leave... what? they got 3! god%%@%. but if you always at your own dump spots, does not really change anything, just one extra step here and there as needed.

I great review and comments. I like the interior color and the free recliners. Toss the mattress. It didn’t look comfortable. If they can add a cargo rack then add a ladder or at least backers. No shade in the door. It has potential but this one is not for me.

I'm planning to get this model but with several changes like replacing the toilet with a compost toilet and converting the black tank to fresh water since I won't need a black water tank and would like more fresh water when boondocking. @@tugstravels4637 Not really. There's no factory option for ladder structure in the rear wall. It would be highly invasive to add one as a result and chances are you'd find "the juice aint worth the squeeze" Beyond that I'm sure we could do about anything for you. We generally try to not modify things from factory spec if it can be avoided but obviously we do our best to fulfill a customer's request where possible.

I love this floorplan👍But, since manufacturers now seem to have no problem asking over $50,000 for a stick and tin trailer, there is no excuse for a plastic toilet and no ladder☹️And, with a $50,000 MSRP I know I would be very upset to walk into a bedroom and see a sheet of plywood staring back at me instead of a mattress👎

@@JoshtheRVNerd When a stick and tin trailer is over $50,000 and manufacturers have no problem adding glampy recliners, theater seating, fireplaces etc that jack up the price, as a decades old RV owner I am adamant that every manufacturer should spend another few hundred dollars to give their customers very important safety features like a ladder, and a decent toilet that doesn’t wobble and creak when you sit on it. If these trailers were still $20,000-$30,000 I would still be upset if they didn’t provide a ladder because it is the most important piece of equipment offered to perform the “required” roof maintenance to prevent the one and only thing that will destroy your RV, water damage. No one lectures people more about the importance of routine roof and seal maintenance than you. I am in total agreement with you, but I just expect manufacturers to give us the means to be able to perform it👍

Both fair points I'm definitely a cup holder guy. I have a habit of consuming huge quantities of liquids and would definitely like something closer as well. Maybe one of those classic folding cup holders on the side of the dinette for the sofa and side of the counter for at least one of the chairs?
