I love to kick off each New Year by decluttering and organizing my entire house because it gets MESSY! I'm not looking to be an extreme minimalist but I do want to be way intentional about living more MINIMAL! We're working in my daughter's bedroom today with an EXTREME declutter, lots of speed cleaning, and a full closet declutter and organization refresh . Kinsley's room is the smallest in the house, so I have tons of small space organization ideas to share. I hope you get tons of cleaning motivation from this video!

My daughter graduated from the UArts. She has a ba in illustration. What you can do is get a big portfolio for her finished pieces. It’s a safe place for her most important pieces. She can learn to sort them out. It will help with the overwhelming amount of art they make. Also have her keep an eye on stuff. Paints that are dry toss out etc. teach her don’t put it down, put it away. It sticks with kids. It’s like Water Wednesday for plants lol. Simple tricks lol. You did awesome in her room. Her set up is fantastic.

My daughter Takaia is 11 and an artist too. We ended up putting her art work into portfolios because her desk was just overwhelmed with her sketches. Now they're safe and fun to flip through to see how much she continues to grow in her skills😊

I’m here supporting as always I’m super late I had a busy weekend and then Sunday night wasn’t feeling well but I’m here and always watching till the end😊 I love how you and Derek always incorporate you’re kids likes and dislikes. And it’s so true in a blink of a eye they’re grown up, I’m not a parent but with my neice’s and nephews are my whole world I can’t have kids sadly but I still completely understand the aspect on how every child’s growth means. I love that you do this for your daughters, I have so much anxiety when it comes to organizing my own things but I love organizing, I’m 28 and sometimes my moms still comes over and helps me de clutter and organize just having her company there and her help will be something I never take for granted ❤

It’s so important for kids to trust that their parents are a reliable support system. When you’re feeling overwhelmed you should be able to rely on your mom to help you through it, no matter your age. ❤️

So relate about your kids getting older! Our oldest just turned 21 a few weeks ago! I said how can that be- when the day they were born, is such a clear memory, like it was yesterday!! Great video Megan 👍. Kinsley's room is perfect. I'm right there with you, my daughter will be 10 in October. No more single digits. It freaked me out too. She's my only child and time has gone by so fast. I did have to get a storage bin for extra art stuff and note books to keep under the bed. I love reading the Magic Tree house books with my daughter too. I wish we lived closer. Our girls would have so much fun together ❤

A storage bin for under the bed is a great idea! The Magic Tree House was the first series that Kinsley binge read lol. It was intended to be bedtime stories but she got so excited about them that she would just read them alone constantly. That’s when I introduced her to The Amazing Days if Abby Hayes & those became her bedtime stories. We’ve completed all of those series, as well as The Giver quartet, and now we’re reading Harry Potter together. ❤️

i’m a professional graphic design and do traditional art as a hobby and i recommend getting a peg board for the art supplies! i have one from ikea and there are a ton of different organization bits for them. the hold thing great and are very easy to get off what you need and hang in the wall. they are also very easy to rearrange as your supplies grow and change

My daughter is almost 30, I remember crying for about a month when she turned 17. I felt like I only had a year left with her, I was thrown out at 18 and some feelings never die. Fortunately she and her husband live close. So you go ahead and be emotional, a mother daughter,specially the first have a special relationship.

I left home the same week I turned 18 & have never had a consistent relationship with my parents since then…so I absolutely DREAD my children turning adult age because I feel like I’ll never see them again. @@lovinglifeasmegan Awww, Megan, I'm sorry to hear that. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ That makes sense you'd feel this way about Kinsley hitting double digits. I hadn't thought of it like that because my parents are still so much a part of my life in my 30s. Things have changed a bit like I stay up watching tv/movies or playing games with my husband but I always used to do that with my dad. It's kind of an adjustment when you don't live in the same house. I cherish the way it used to be and definitely feel nostalgic about it. I'm blessed to be close with my family members although it can include being involved in their stresses/messes too. Hopefully your daughters will always want you close and a part of their lives because you treat them with respect and value/celebrate their individuality. Supporting and letting them blossom into the unique individuals they're meant to be rather than impressing your will upon or ordering them to be a certain way makes a big difference. You seem to be doing a great job! ❤️

Have you ever thought of a new desk with draws or shelves that would help with all her art supplies just a thought. I have evry small closet in my home part of living in a trailer. We would love to get her a bigger desk but she just doesn’t have the space for it. Whenever we get around to selling our house & moving we will absolutely be looking for larger bedroom spaces to accommodate our growing girls, and then we can get her a bigger desk. 🤗

You should consider making a DIY Alex drawer desk on the wall were you now have her dresser. That would make it so much easier to have all of her supplies in one space. And you could add floating shelves over the desk for her books 📚

Actually many people use the same clothes hamper for dirty clothes to the washing machine and then transfer the clean clothes from the dryer right to the room using the same hamper- different strokes each to their own.

@@themrs.howell I don't do that but fold my clothes immediately from the dryer and put them away but I know others who do and say that the dirty clothes are not soiled but just worn so it's no different than wearing a piece of clothing more than once before washing it. That's why I say to each his own. That is their choice.

As a fellow artist, i know our supplies can get crazy and out of hand. I know the clear is really nice, but the IKEA Alex drawers would definitely be a recommendation as her supplies continues to grow!

We’d love to have those for her but there’s no space in her current room & we don’t have an ikea near us 😭 but absolutely we will look into a big system like that at our next house!

Agree with @AngelaMadickWesig Ikea has some amazing shelf, cubby, and drawer systems of all sizes. And they deliver and ship all over. There are comparable 2x1 cubbies at Target that fits in small spaces, I use those a lot too
