Similar climate here in Finland. Went with polystyrene hives, also because Paradise Honey happens to be literally local to me. It's my first year, but the ladies seem to be doing OK. Looking forward to the full series, as your concept is clearly additionally insulated and bottom insulation is a major difference.

My bees survived the 40 below zero temps we recently had here in MT with absolutely no insulation and a standard 2 deep box with no open holes or vents, which is the good news. I'm sure that took a lot out of them however and they would have been more comfortable in the bee barn!

Hail and Good Morrow! Been wondering where, what, and why, I've not seen your splendid videos! I'm not one to 'reach out' in a private manner via Snail Mail or other privacy breaching methods (I figure if you wanted us to know, you'd tell us....and tomorrow that belief will see fruition.). I must admit to having missed seeing your regular VLOGS; I learn so much for later use, and your 'bon vivant' attitude is always a plus to me personally, in that your positive attitude reminds me that 'Point of View' changes for the positive can in fact, allow a person to succeed, even if that 'success' is miniscule by normal standards. Glad to see you're back. Eager to see what you have in mind. Always pleased to note improvements to you and your family's place; you've both worked so hard to make a go of it, constructive enhancements which create a better opportunity for success is always beneficial to even us viewers: because what you've succeeded at doing, many of 'us' can succeed as well. Well, best get dinner done; a foot to 20" of snow incoming tonight and over the next two days straight.....we ended up with 30" at my place last time (the Deep Freeze that hit everyone), and -49F at 5AM that 'deep nigiht': mind you, when I saw that Temp on my phone, I literally praised God for His Blessings and Mercy: we had expected the Wind to keep going at 40mph to 60mph, which would have created a Wind Chill down to -70F, and at those temps, living creatures start dying.......I'm still feeding 10-12 outside cats as best I can.......but at -49F.....they all survived!
