I was never in a romantic relationship for that long, but I know the pain of loss and of losing friends and especially family members. I can't imagine any feeling worse than how I feel every time I think of how much I miss them, so I just want to say that you're not alone even though it feels like we are.

+Van Spottiswood - They began their career in 1960. All very young boys. They hadn't written any songs to speak of, so they covered popular songs. This song was written about an historical coal mine collapse in '41. (Hence the morbid name, changed). I also, am so proud to have been born in the era of ALL the best R&R bands, of all time. Yup, that makes us pld... But, I wouldn't have missed it for the World. All the kids today, wish they could have been born in our Gen !! ~ I say... "Good on Us" !!

The opening chord Barry was using the open D tuning he'd been taught when he was 9, & was playing it as if it was conventional tuning. Australian drummer Colin Petersen, on his 1st single with the band, was an official member of the group, until he left 2 years latter. Robin & Barry, who wrote the song together, (about a disaster in Wales), sang in unison, (which they would repeat on How Deep Is Your Love). We see Maurice on bass.

The Bee Gees- one of the greatest bands in the history of music. Undoubtedly! I love them. I have loved them since I was a teenager back in the early 90s when my dad brought home a copy of THE BEE GEES FIRST from a garage sale. I had only heard covers of this song and never liked it- the original blew me away. As good as some of the covers are nothing comes close to the harmonies and the sincerity of the original version. Such a sad and tragic song, but there's a Bee Gees trademark right there. Nothing is more sad and tragic than losing Andy, Maurice, and Robin Gibb all way too young and just totally unbearable for Barry Gibb and anyone who has a heart. Barry must feel horrible. I really wish I could meet him he'd be one of the few legends down to earth enough for you to sit down and converse with him. Hope is doing well and having as happy a start to this new year as he can. Love from Ben.
@fernandoferreira62932 жыл бұрын
This one word you chose, sincerity, is indeed something noticeable. It's not pretentious at all, they seemed to be attempting to communicate rather than convince, to express instead of cheaply please and captivate. This level of innocence isn't possible anymore for lately it would be taken for stupidity.

67marlins Yes i was grateful to my mother for my name because it has served me well as an author. My parents were eclectic in their tastes but I always gravitated to anything contemplative, there is something in the melody of this song that grasps you in a way

Bambi Harris Good point. One of the reasons I like Canadian power trio Rush is because their lyrics range from the Holocaust to recapturing good memories - not all their songs are 'boy meets girl', in other words. Can I suggest you give a listen to 'The lonesome death of Hattie Carroll', from Bob Dylan? Being an author, I am sure a great deal of imagery and prose will sweep over you. Good speaking with you, Bambi. Kurt from Massachusetts.

I Just loved the Bee Gees. I went to High School in 1979-1981: and it almost seems like the best music came out between the 1960's (born in 62) and about 1988. I honestly quit listening to live radio by 1993 as "THE SOUND" I grew up with seemed to have all but died away! My favorite BEE GEE songs were not played on the radio anymore either. I loved: the album: Spirits Having Flown, and literaly wore out the vinyl record I had at the time. I also had the 2 record set sound track from the Movie: Saturday Night Fever. I listened to these albums forever. I had ONE decent boy friend in high school--he dropped out during our Sophomore year, but kept in touch for many years. OUR song was "Tragedy", we would dance our brains out to that song! Today when I listen to it, I think of Patrick and wonder where he is today. Most of the comments are turned off on all the Bee Gee song sites, so could not leave a comment until I hit THIS song. It is so sad that people have to be so negative. Thanks for allowing some of us to be able to leave some comments here. I have good memories of this music. Certainly did not corrupt me or push me away from my Christian beliefs. I just enjoy really good power harmony and a good beat. Thanks for the music! God Bless, and I sincerely mean that too. From the heart from Oregon!

My husband and I happened to see a BeeGees concert on TV which was an HBO special in about 1998. We were BLOWN AWAY by all their singing. I'd heard their songs on the radio and in movies and liked some of them a lot but I'd never realized what amazing singers they were. Actually I even had a Saturday Night Fever cassette tape but that didn't really do them justice either. But watching them sing their hearts out was something I'll never forget. Towards the end they let the third guy finally sing a song, and we were doubly blown away!!! It was "I Started a Joke" and my husband and I were like Why does he only get to sing one song?!?!
