Let what Maurice said simmer for a moment and realize that they wrote Tragedy and Too Much Heaven in ONE afternoon. "Hi honey, how was your day at work?". "Fine. We wrote two songs that will be legendary and still being discovered and popular in 2020".

The BeeGees were not a disco band. They jumped on the disco bandwagon in the late 70s because of its popularity and they did so very, very successfully. They don't really belong in any specific genre and it's probably legit to say they were their own genre. Fabulous band.

When they were approached to come up with some songs for “Fever”, they already had these songs written for their own album. So I guess that they already had the sound and with the release of Fever, it merged into the Disco era. They themselves never considered themselves a Disco band.

The guy at the end that Dereck said he didn't know who he was, was none other than the legendary Sir George Henry Martin. He was an English record producer, arranger, composer, conductor, and musician. He was commonly referred to as the "Fifth Beatle" because of his extensive involvement in each of the Beatles' original albums.

I agree completely and it shows how they actually recorded the original. The higher notes reached in 1979 were really nicer than this version and that's why Barry's falsetto isn't quite the same as the 1979 version. I highly recommended.

Nights on Broadway is another great one (pre Saturday Night Fever). Early falsetto for the group. I recommend the live version from Midnight Special. In this live version, you will see that all the brothers can do falsetto. The high parts are sung by Maurice (pronounced "Morris") during live performances because Barry is singing lead with a lower voice. Often Barry and Robin sing together in unison as a single lead voice, with Maurice doing the fantastic harmonies. He instinctively knew exactly what to add to create their beautiful rich sound.

They have been around since the 60s. They have had hits in every decade and they had written the songs for Saturday night fever before they knew what disco was! They were asked and they gave them the songs they had already written. Disco is great but they are known for their writing and making hits for themselves and others in every genre of music. Simply one of the best song writers, singers and entertainers ever!

Dana says- My bestie had this record when we were kids. We'd play this song and jump back and forth from her bed to her sister's bed a few feet away, every time they sang the word 'tragedy'. Not too difficult at first, but by the last third of the song, we'd get quite a workout. By the end, we'd fall down on the beds, laughing our heads off, and trying to breathe. To this day, whenever I hear this song playing in the store, or an elevator, and I get the biggest urge to jump on a bed. :-)

To all the people saying that this version is inferior to the studio version, I just want to point out that the Bee Gees are so good, that even with this version (which I think it's great), they can cause reactions like Dereck's on minute 2:53. And just FYI, Barry isn't hitting higher notes on the studio version, both versions are on the same key. Great reaction!

I love how much you get into The Bee Gees who have some of the most iconic hits in pop history. As much as this live version is such a good performance, you really HAVE to listen to the studio version because it is epic and an explosion of melodic and harmonic sound. And you should consider doing a reaction to a later in their career song “You Win Again” which was a huge hit in the UK going to #1. Sadly, did not hit big here in the US, which is unfortunate because it’s a gorgeous piece of pop music. There is an official video for the song too.
