Bee Man Gains 5,000 New Girlfriends In One Day!

Yes, 5,000 ladies "bees" really do try to leave the bee man on this day but the bee man had a few tricks up his sleeve & instead of them leaving, he gained 5,000 new girlfriends, all in one day.
That's my story & I'm sticking to it!
So, this video is all about why I take the time to find & cage the queen bee when dealing with a swarm of bees.
If the bees decide to leave the set up you place them in they are forced to come back unless of course there is more than one queen & that's just bad luck or is it?
Watch as this particular swarm tries to leave for parts unknown but I cage their rather plump & most definitely mated queen & gain 5,000 new girlfriends all in one day.
If you enjoy the content on my channel there are always new videos coming as I stay busy as a bee!
Subscribe & hit that little badge if you would like to see future content & thanks for being here in the first place!

When you said "box" at first I thought you had your standard wooden box. I love how you've improvised & literally turned a plastic fork storage box into a home for the bees lol At first they were like "What the hell is this shit? We want the tree" but they hv no choice 😂

I had some beekeepers set up 4 hive boxes in my pasture (I'll get 1/4 of the honey!) on a Thursday. When they brought the new bees to put in them on Tuesday, one hive already had a swarm take over and had built some comb! One piece was 5"x6". So now, I have 5 hives in my pasture. They also put out 2 more swarm boxes to see if we can catch another swarm.

JP - really love your content. In another video you talked about the varroa mite problem - my question: have you or your fellow beekeepers talked about using its natural enemy Chelifer cancroides (in germany its called Bücherskorpion - book scorpion). This little critter was allready used in the middle ages in europe and has now a strong comeback.
@JPthebeeman
@JPthebeeman 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t believe bees would mind having them in their colonies, besides varroa develop in drone cells & pseudos would have to get to em before the cells were capped. I don’t see that happening.
@hikebikearchaeology1782
@hikebikearchaeology1782 3 жыл бұрын
@@JPthebeeman yeah but the effect of the scorpions is strong enough to have a healthy colony without using chemicals from what I read. The also go after hive beatle larva and bee moths. There is a bunch of content about this on KZbin but it's mostly in german I fear. Anyways your videos are very inspiring - I will even pay our local Beeman a visit to show me around. Sadly as an archeologist I mostly only see european hornets when I'm in the fields. Other Insects are disappearing at alarming rates

Hello JP, I have a question regarding the queen cells. If a hive doesn't have a queen anymore, who is laying the egg to make a new queen? Do the bees just take an egg that was laid (or a larva) earlier and put it in a queen cell and then feed it royal jelly , or can a worker lay an egg and just feeding it royal jelly is enough to create a new queen?
