Ah Catherine - you've made me feel so bad! I have the piles of clothes on chairs simply because I have no room in my wardrobes which are full of clothes i haven't worn for years - and I mean years. However I've now - having watched your video - ordered some new wallpaper for my bedroom and new bed linen, so you've inspired me to get going. Maybe when I finish the bedroom I can start on the bathroom and get to use the new wallpaper, paint and all the decorative finishes which are sitting gathering dust in my bath for the last year!!! From one beekeeper to another, . . . It is labour intensive, isn't it?! And trust me, each year will present a new challenge never before encountered, no matter the years you have under your belt. But it sounds like you're in good hands! As for us here in northern Sicily, we've just harvested the first honey of this year; and it is spectacular! I do hope you have the same results. So I like your random video and the fact that when you travel you take us with you because for those of us that I’ve never been over to your country it’s beautiful. It reminds me of when I was in Germany because even though you have the city you still have the country life and it’s not necessarily I guess yet Come to country you still have the separation and you have some beautiful countryside so I’m Ok with you waffling as you say!! I think your countryside is beautiful. It’s interesting to hear about the bees had them when I was growing up. We had four hives. My dad owned a candy factory so all the slivers from the candy as it came down to be packaged we used to take those big 5 pound sacks and take them out and put them near the hives so that they could have them versus the liquid syrup that you’re feeding them, so interesting to see how they work was not interested when I was a young adolescent/teenager as to how hives worked. I was just interested in getting the fresh honey out of it. fresh homegrown honey has more good qualities for our immune systems then people realize so I’m anxious to see and hope that your bees do very very well❤

Thank you! So, they got a test frame of eggs on Sunday, if they draw queen cells then they will have a new queen, or I can ask my mentor about introducing a new queen, the goal is to have a strong queen and stock of bees to get them through Winter

Overwintering bees is fascinating, To prepare them for winter, we make sure they have enough food stored (like honey) or a supplement fondant feed, reduce the hive entrance to keep out cold drafts, and sometimes insulate the hive. We don't check them weekly wither, and only open them up in Spring to see if the queen is laying 😊🐝 Beekeeping is contagious-once you start learning about them, it's hard not to want a hive of your own! 🍯❤️

So both groups stay separate as they are loyal to their own queen, so their queens pheromone. Some bees do rob from other hives, robbing is common.
