1:32 Isaac actually hinted about the crows in episode 6 when he told the story about how Danny saved one of the crows before and how that crow kept on following him after that. The crows actually played a big role. If you rewatch the whole series, something major happens every time a crow is shown. The first one was when Danny fell down the tree with the chainsaw.

They didn't get reception until a couple of days out there. Maybe the tracking on Amy's phone was activated then, and her husband was able to locate her, shooting George in the process. If that's not what happened, then it made no sense as to why he appeared out of nowhere, when there was no sign of where either one of them had crashed.
@elijahayran9468 Жыл бұрын
One detail I would like to mention is about the crows is the conversation they had. It’s known that Crows have great memory and can even remember the faces of people from slight interactions. If you pay attention to the crow’s conversation, the crows mention that Danny has fed it before (i forgot which uploads it happens in) and the other crow mentions that Amy scared it’s uncle which is scene in the beginning of episode 2 when she points a gun at the crow. Another thing i’d like to point out is that in episode 8 or 9 when George confesses his little affair to Amy, he says that some people have a deeper level of spiritual connection and the psychedelic moment in the last episode illustrated that clearly; 2 people who felt alone in different ways were the yin and yang that they needed in their life

Loved it from start to finish. They both were so alike in their struggles - her with her struggle to find unconditional love & his to find someone to accept him (flaws & all) without either having to accept the traditional relationships expected of them - Danny’s parents wanting him to find a Korean, Christian girl to marry & Amy’s parents telling her she should just accept a partner regardless of their incompatible flaws (forced to be someone they aren’t, not feeling loved or loving them, & not being supported in any way). Also, both of their parent’s passed down generational trauma harder than genetics.
@user-dy7bv3qs4j Жыл бұрын
I don't understand the trauma because I have never met anyone or any parents who does not have failures, faults, secrets and lies, plus unrealistically high expectations and double standards for other people especially their children. The so called trauma is more like bad habits, bad behaviors and bad beliefs that parents pass down to the children. Also, I have never seen or believe anyone capable of love that is unconditional, I only have seen and believe in love that is reciprocal. Unconditional love just seem like an oversold and impractical fantasy concept that makes gullible people treat bad and dangerous people with kindness. These undeserved kindness very often just reinforces their bad behaviors. Even though certain bad people can be reasonably reformed, but most bad people will reoffend as bad habits are very difficult to change and bad beliefs are almost impossible to change. This show demonstrates this very well, both lead characters could not change their bad habits and beliefs until the seemingly happy ending where they have unconditional love is filmed to look more like death, heaven or fantasy land.

The first 3 episodes seemed like a dejavu to me. I felt something very familiar but I did not know what it was. I told my husband to watch it because it is relatable. As the story continued to unfold, I realized why it seemed familiar. I am Amy and also Danny. Sometimes I am Paul and George to other people. I cried so much in the end because I've never felt so seen and understood. Mental health issues are no joke you can't really say "I know how you feel" to someone experiencing depression (like when Amy was trying to tell George about the lump she feels on her throat). We just have to try to be more understanding and caring and not be judgmental because we don't know what others are going through..

A few throughts. 1. This was an excellent series, it really kept you guessing the entire time, it was nearly impossible to call what was going to happen next. I appreciate that. 2. This is going to be Ally Wong's coming out party, her performance was excellent, rarely can stand-up comedians make that transition, she pulled it off. 3. They didn't die. When their phones catch reception it clearly shows that Amy's phone had it's "find my iPhone" on which gives clear exposition on how George found them etc etc... 4. The show leaves you wanting to know how their relationship plays out going forward, but you know that any epilogue would ruin it, it's frustrating in the best way possible.

A few other thoughts I had watching this -- - The final shot of Danny and Amy in the hospital bed reminded me of George's (Amy's husband) description of his affair -- "I think we were mirrored in the spirit realm." Even though Amy scoffed at the idea in the time, it seems to fit neatly her feud, and later love, for Danny -- the swirling lights over them could represent the spirit realm, either in a post-death existence (if they died) or a metaphorical expression (if they lived). Either way, they've finally found their spiritual match. - I do think it's interesting, post falling asleep in the woods, they woke up covered in branches. Early in the show, Amy describes her depression as "the ground... right here *on her chest*" and Danny sees flashes of the earth when he feels hopeless. The shot of the earth could be a metaphor of their shared depression. In the finale scene where they (maybe) die, the camera pushes into the ground... is this them returning to the earth? Is it them finally facing their depression with honesty? Are their lives and deaths both defined by loneliness, since (as they philosophize) God made them that way because he's also lonely? But in waking up, they removed the branches that have buried them. Love the meaning, even if I haven't pieced it out yet. - in his NYT review, Jamie Poniewozik describes the brilliance of beef as a metaphor for anger -- "It fills an emptiness, it sustains, it momentarily satisfies - even if, in excess, it’s terrible for your heart." What a beautiful thematic summary of the show.

As a non-Asian, this was a great presentation of generational trauma in other cultures in its similarity to all adjacent cultures. I love how the show focused on showing the two living the exact same internal conflicts, anger and fear despite their polar opposite social status. In one the episodes Amy tells her daughter something within the lines of “We were poor when I had you, but I wish we stayed there” which reflects the source of her anger and frustration which is trying so hard to catch up with her elite circle. From her mother-in-law making comments about her house, spoiled husband who had it all growing up… . Danny’s on the same boat but on a different scale. They’re both people pleasers, working harder than they should to gain everyone’s approval as they both have only experienced conditional love. It goes to show that no matter how much they have (her trying to secure that multi million dollar deal and Danny struggling to build his parents a house) until they both connect with the right person who can love them unconditionally, they keep trying even harder for what seems like forever.

I really enjoyed watching this show. The premise was very relatable. I’ve not been in a road rage incident that had me chasing someone down in my vehicle fueled with rage. But I have been in a situation of escalating conflict that starts with something small that gets more and more heated with every step but like in most situations it got to a point where I had to walk away before the hatred consumed me and took everything with it. I loved that Beef took it all the way but in a sort of poetic style. In the end it was beautiful and moving the way Danny and Amy were forced to work together to survive and to talk to each other and open up in ways they never had with anyone else. They’re two fundamentally broken people who seem like they could complete each other. The ending where Amy stayed by Danny’s side in hospital and lay in his hospital bed with him was very moving and I think that was the perfect note to end the series. Ambiguous enough for the viewer to draw their conclusions of what happens after. I could imagine the two of them rebuilding their lives together and feeling more complete than ever before but for them to support each other in a platonic capacity would have been equally valid. I found it interesting during the series it dropped plenty of hints that George was never the person to fill that void in Amy’s life. Her telling him that their sex like didn’t fulfil her, being too vanilla for her tastes. But more importantly Fumi sets it up for Amy to revive their marriage, all she had to do is lie and say that she never fucked Danny’s brother and she’d have had her marriage back. But instead she comes clean and tells him everything and he couldn’t handle it. I think the symbolism in that moment is that she had reached a point where she didn’t want to keep up a pretence. One that she probably felt she had to maintain to keep him interested in her ever since they first met. In that moment she showed him who she truly is and he basically said that’s not who he wanted because they were fundamentally incompatible. Conversely she revealed her true self to Danny when they were poisoned from eating wild berries and he didn’t reject her. They shared a similar feeling of emptiness and were able to bond. And for them to reach that they first had to let go of everything that they thought would fill that hole, their material possessions, the loved ones that they deceived and manipulated and everything that gave them a sense of security and their place in the world. Hell, they even needed to let go of their will to live as they were convinced that they would succumb to the poison and wouldn’t wake up the next day. Which seemed to be why when they woke up the next morning they had a renewed sense of purpose and the conflict and hatred they once had for each other was the furthest thing from their minds. In that desperate situation having each other was all they had and it seemed like it was an experience that changed them for the better. And after all the insane shit that happened it was so good to see it end on such a hopeful note

And if the writers really want they can put a lil Easter egg in one episode of Danny or Amy or both. I think it could be very fitting. When I say Easter egg I mean something very small. It could something as small as them walking in the background or like Danny’s company appearing in an ad or even a small mention in the news that talks about a post events for split second. The news one would have to be background noise though, not like in your face showing you something on a tv.

I'm not sure whther or not thy died but in the scene near the end they are walking towards the light at the end of the tunnel which is a popular end of life trope. And in the very last scene the camera pans upwards in a soul leaving the body gesture and Amy is in the foetal position mybe to be re-born or reincarnated. There are so many interpretations. This series really is something else. Another interpretaton could be that their old emotionally trapped selves are dead and they are re-born as more transparent versions of who they really are.

Crows also symbolise change and metamorphosis, especially in east asian culture. You see crows come back throughout the series, flying in front of danny etc. Maybe they appear in crucial moments in the series? idk mayb i have to watch it again but it the creators definitely meant for the crows to have this meaning

It would be really cool if they did Edwin's story and Daniel and Amy would be side characters .. so we can still see their progress without destroying their beautiful story line in season 1

that might be a good idea, but i would pick paul and issac as the main characters

A few thoughts on the artwork for the last episode. I don't think the colours pouring out of the body represents the hatred/poison that was consuming them. It's their true essence finally splurging from the vessels that carry them, aka their true selves finally being set free from the body.

They shouldn't make a season 2 this was too perfect to have one😭😭

I think deeper thank anything this show explores how hiding your true self can cause more damage than you think. We all think no can understand or relate to how we feel and even though we’re surrounded by people we feel alone, just want to be seen. But I learned early family, and love for yourself is key. Forgiving yourself is key.

Considering that the series is produced by A24, the crows scene reminds me of the conversation between rocks in Everything, Everywhere, All at once. Also produced by A24

Do glad my friends encouraged me to see this series. I assumed it was just more angry people. And it was, and people who never took responsibility of their actions & kept blaming everyone else, but what a ride! Great show!

I think that in the scene in which George finds them and supposedly shoots just Danny, it looks like the show is implying he could have killed both of them. You can only see both of their silhouettes and light at the end of the tunnel.

I think the earth/soil and the talking crows indicate that nature/the universe and all of us are part of a whole (the meaning of namaste). I think the intimacy under the tree, them lying on the ground, was them connecting not only with themselves but with everything else, allowing the transformation to occur. Definitely no to a second season. The drama centred on their disfunction. If they have healed and found love in each other, there should be no drama.

Great finale theories. Thanks for this. I totally loved this show. Best show, especially dramedy, of 2023. In some ways absurd but in the way that life can be sometimes absurd. The truth is you never really know a person best or appreciate who they are until you have gone toe to toe with them.

That show was amazing on so many levels. I loved every scene, every metaphor, every message. Except I didn't really enjoy watching the rich lady being cut in half, but oh well.. I kinda wish they'd do another story like this with depthful messages. But different characters completely. I'm rooting for this in season 2 🙏🏻 and hope they won't continue this one. It's perfect.

I think reflecting on pausing before given him the finger showed she finally took accountability. Danny had previously by telling his brother of the college applications and burning down the house. This was more subtle, but with the air cleared, she acknowledged she was the asshole who started this whole thing. Perhaps atonement.

At first i was like "Ehh this is gonna be one of those comedic love stories" but it got more unique each episode, never did i expect for anyone to get killed in this show, especially Jordan getting her legs annihilated... gives me Barry vibes, how it starts pretty simple, yet goes to extreme slowly.
