This looks so good. It reminds me of when my youngest was a student at University and I would can pint jars of beef stew so he could have it for supper on Sunday nights. The University did not serve Sunday night suppers. He had others come around and try to convince him that he should share but that was one thing he would NOT share. I did not put potatoes in my jars either but used a tablespoon of barley. He was fond of that.

Good morning Jen. Bless your heart and how you give us these wonderful recipes and through Ball so we know they are SAFE! There is way too much stuff out there that is unsafe and for those who are new and don’t know better there is not nearly enough information on safe canning procedures.

A tip I learned....when cleaning off the garlic press use the backside of the knife blade, keeps your knife blade from getting dull so quick. The one kitchen task I hate doing is knife sharpening. Peace

This is about the same as what my family calls "soup base". Can be made with any meat, and variations can use tomatoe juice for liquid. When putting the recipe together sometimes add noodles instead of potatoes. We also can a vegetarian base with water as liquid. So much you can do with canning ... so much fun! Thanks for sharing your time with us.

I just made the pot roast in a jar, recently! I left potatoes out because I didn't have any, but also because I love adding the herbed potatoes in the same Ball book to my pot pies. Usually I use Bisquick for the top because it reminds me of how my mom used to cook, but homemade pie crust or store bought is yummy, too.

You make it look so easy! And how you can decipher the 2qt/4pint recipes, scale them up, so you have a canner load and enough broth for the jars Saving out the potatoes for later is also a great tip, thanks again

I have canned beef stew with potatoes in it. It looks OK, but have not tried it yet. If they are mushy, I'll leave them out next time. I could thicken it for a pot pie. Thanks for the inspiration! I may have to make some Chicken Pot Pie filling, too. I have chicken thighs and legs that I plan to can (bone-in).

It’s nice to have on hand and doubles as stew!. Chicken thighs make the best filling! 😊

I think I will try this with dehydrated veggies (I have a lot) and dehydrated beef bone broth powder (sorry, Better Than Bullion tastes like a salt lick to me). Like the tip about using onion powder and garlic powder as well as the actual veggies. And will probably make more in the fall with fresh veg.

Just a question here, you seem to have room for more veggies, can one safely put more in. About acid reflux….I used to refer myself as the « acid reflux queen » BUT……since I have been making most of our meals in the instant pot, I find the my AR has gone away. Seems like sugar is the worse culprit but again hard to tell as there are some sugars that do nothing so long as I don’t indulge for dinner time. A little baking soda and ACV in a small glass of water and heartburn GONE.
@Jeni_Gough2 жыл бұрын
The rule of thumb for soup abs stew is half solids, half broth. My medical situation with GERD is much more serious than that. I actually need surgery and I’m buying time with very strong prescriptions. Also… that is NOT my only issue, sadly. And, I am a nurse and have been for 28 years. I tried it all before it got to where it is now. 😊
