Hi David, I appreciate how beekeepers are always perfecting their own profession. Learning, growing, and adapting better ways. We are curious, creative, and are innovative pioneers in reinvention! I'm looking foward to how many splits I can make and successfully winter. Hopefully, always and forever. All the best and keep doing what you are doing....helping others in beekeeping!

I have not started beekeeping yet. It is just an interest and even with your videos it is very intimidating. I am nearing retirement and hopefully will have 10 years to get good at it! My initial intent is just to support bees and the environment…honey, business, etc is all secondary. Right now I am just collecting as much information as I can. Videos, books, etc. then hopefully an in person class. Then we will see. Thanks for all your efforts.

I live in IL, and although the winter hasn't fully kicked in I noticed earlier this week my hive perished. I ran into a situation where my hive swarmed, and they couldn't re-queen properly. So, I went out late in the season and got a new queen. I believe they accepted her, but unfortunately, I went into the colder days with a low population and limited food sources despite having put a candy board on top for the winter. It's my first year in beekeeping, so I definitely have a lot to learn.

I've been in a roughy place mentally and have decided some new little friends to care for is going to help me out of my rut. Thank you for emphasizing there will be loses and failures in this video. I know it is inevitable, but the reassurance is great to hear. I refuse to be discouraged and I'll be taking your online classes either way when I save up. :)

We started beekeeping 8 years ago. What I like the most is the ever-learning environment. We are starting to raise queens and sell nucs. We started with 2 hives and now we are up to 34. My husband joined me in the business. This will be a very exciting year. I watch many beekeeping videos and you are one I watch continuously.

Great video Dave. I'm into this about six years now. If you ask me for a few words describing Beekeeping. Frustrating and expensive. Let's hope for better outcomes this year. 2 years ago I made $1000 selling honey locally (while still employed). Now retired and this year the rains ruined the honey crop. Hopefully, 2024 will be a good year for the bees.

I'm fairly new to bee keeping, only about 4 years this spring. Haha! I've lost a few quality hives in my short time practicing. I've currently got a wine barrel probably 1/4 - 1/3 full of happy bees. And my plan is in early ish spring time is to cut out some of the comb ,while keeping close watch for the queen. I want to split the hive into about 3 more standard box hives. Split them along with the young bees to hopefully rear a new queen for each box, suffice we have plenty of pollen and nectar to create the royal jelly to do so. I'm just waiting for that first strong bloom to do it. My question is should I keep checking on the inside of the hive during this rainy season that we have going in California this year? I don't want to freeze them out from the damp cold. But they are active on the non rainy days, and I don't want to neglect them and have them abscond like my other hives have.... is every sunny mid day checkup say approximately every other weekend or month enough? I work a regular job m-f from dawn till dusk the rest of the time. It is hard to get a 1 pm checkup when ever I would "want to". Thanks David

Understanding bees is very new to me. I researched them for three years before keeping bees. And I've learned more this year than I ever have, I started beekeeping because of my gardening experience. Knowing that they're pollination skills made/ drew me to beekeeping myself. Being attracted to your channel helped me with the confidence I needed to pursue it. I understand the ten years you've been talking about because it took me a while (7 years to understand gardening)

Just started beekeeping here in country Victoria, Australia. I'm hoping to emulate my Great Grandmother's success. This was my plan for 2024. Raise my queens. I had sooo much trouble this year and it’s like you read my mind. I needed this push to get going on the dream of nucs of mated queens!!!!!!

One thing that I've grown to really love about beekeeping is working the hives with my wife. She's a big gardener and we have adored the relationship we've been able to foster between the bees and the garden. She has become a pro and knows what to look for, how to handle frames, how to use the smoker, how to spot the queen, etc. I'm so proud of her, how hard she's worked this year, and the things we've tried and dove into this year in terms of hobbies that bring us joy and keep us sane. Extremely thankful for this incredible world of beekeeping.

First - THANK YOU David and Sheri for all the knowledge and work to share life experiences whether its about honey bees or family! Second - how to relate to bees in their environment to be successful year round. Third - over coming diversity whether bad or good and how it applies to life. Fourth - the HONEY! HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY!

@@beek sure do I'm in Perth Western Australia so it's the best honey in the world . We still have no major pest and diseases here but it looks like veroa mite is on its way so I need to learn about pest control. I was thinking about raising queen's for my 7 hives so your KZbin has inspired me to try 👍

Personally, I feel that the thing I wish I knew was where your channel was last year. The frustrations of not having a mentor who could encourage me with their experiences in a manor I could relate to. While accepting the failures of hive keeping as a positive learning experience. I really appreciate the kind of approach you have to your craft when you share your knowledge. It's absolutely wonderful to know that you are helping produce the best bee keepers for today and the future. That's definitely something to be proud of. And I'm happy to know I can take the journey with you all. The best moment of this presentation for me was the heartfelt realization that I feel more motivated with an increased confidence that I can do it. I've been roasting and brewing coffee for over 30 years, and I still occasionally have a cup, pot, and occasionally, several pounds of pure failure one after the other. That being said.. bring on the coffee beenz.

I have gone full circle and now am a “minimalist”. I expand with swarms captured. I put supers on in the early spring and take honey and remove supers late summer. No treatment for mites, wax moths, or small hive beetles. Occasionally I feed honey back to original hive. Hive loss has become 0-20%. For me and my bees less is better.

I used to have a lot more hives than I do now, and indeed, less is better.

I’m doing an experiment after queens reading.. I want to make a few feeders and trap few bees 🐝 for the new queens to see if she will go ahead with a hand full of bees… I enjoy seeing & feedings random wild bees

I’m going to start beekeeping next year. I know I’ll like the zen it induces and how it’ll allow me to relax my mind from the demand the public puts on me- a sort of meditation. Also, THE HONEY! thanks for your videos.

I look forward to having my own colonies to learn from in the spring. I've been in a few helping another beekeeper but I am ready to learn from them regularly. I do intend to make and keep a couple nucs around to replace any losses and to have queens available. I intend to raise my own queens as well. I'm excited about being a beekeeper in every aspect.
