Beekeeping. Looks like the nectar flow is starting.

I have been keeping bees for only 4 years. I have a small apiary (my roof!). I have come to the conclusion my bees do drift quite a bit and like to join the stronger colonies. It has been a problem more in the fall when they jump ship to go into the hive they want to help survive. I noticed your hives, like mine, are similar in color. I am going to try a more varying color scheme this year to try and keep bees home. Thank god the Flow has finally arrived.

Thank you for watching. I have not had drift that bad but I do sometimes wounder if it's the queen or hive location.The other end of that stand the hive is not as strong so not sure it makes a difference yet.

You’re about a week ahead of me with the packages. I hived one on Easter Sunday and another a couple days later on Tuesday 4/23. Looking good in SW Connecticut so far despite cold and rainy days. Today is sunny and warm and they are busy.

I would say the pollen is purple dead nettle. It produces a red pollen

Girls are looking awesome, and the queen looks great! I’ll be putting on my supers this week. I asked you once before but I cant find it, what do you stain your hives with? Thanks again for sharing.

This is the strongest hive I have at the farm and they might fill a super in two weeks if we get nice weather. I use Minwax stain and then Minwax Helmsman. Not sure what box you saw but I use Golden Pecan, Early American and golden oak.
