Beekeeping boils down to one bee, the queen. The entire colony will collapse quickly without the queen. If you have to replace your queen make sure you do it correctly.

David I had a hive kill 3 queens until I used that same introduction cage. I did "spray" the queen because she did try to fly. Tip: I noticed that the queen didn't like to go in descending way, that means if your frame is laying flat and you try to shake it inside she won't go down. Whenever I held the frame in an angle and put the the queen in an ascending way trough the hole of the introduction cage she climbed inside the cage by herself.

It is impossible to get queens to go down out of a cage I agree

Wow David-thank you! I’m currently using this to requeen my third queen-the past two they killed. Something I also heard and implemented is I got my hive to where it was hopelessly queenless-which is like 9 days without a queen, gone back into the hive and removed all the queen cells, then caged the queen. She has been inside for five days. Tomorrow I’ll release her. So glad you agree with this method. Thx!!!

David Thank you so much for this so valuable video..... We need to replace this so called quiet Buckfast Queen. The hive is very aggressive and is causing a nuisance with our neigbours. Next Friday a new Queen is coming. I have a cage as per your instructions but had to make it out of 4mm stainless mesh. I hope it works same as your cage. I made it because I couldn't get one for a month. I have watched you video three times now but feel I aught to watch it more before the 'event'. You are always straight forward and have an open mind which is essential in anything complex. I'll be looking at your videos to see if there is a suggestion re - do the bees behaviour give a pointer as to when they seem to accept the new queen. All your instructions in this video give a novice of three seasons beekeeper comfort & confidence. Two deep inspections have failed to find a Queen but there is plenty of lavae and worker brood but we find eggs are hard to see. I have decided we must find that queen or queens or none with the shake and queen excluded on Tuesday next week but are not looking forward to the fireworks!..... Been stung 4 times each now through the suits! You have given us the confidence that we might well get there eventually and are looking forward to a future quiet hive same as the other two.

This I unrelated, but did you know that when your Queen Rearing, you can put specialy designed queen excluders on the individual queen cells so that when they come out of their cell, they're trapped and incapable of killing any unhatched or hatched Queens around them.

David, I had a hive last spring that was not queen-right. I had a laying worker bee. The bees were not accepting the new queens so I made a similar queen cage to help get the new queen accepted.

The most important thing is to prepare bee colony for successful accepting new bee queen, then things go easy no matter which method is used, no matter which tool.

Would a device like this be good for breaking the brood cycle or for knowing which section of frame day old larve can be found later on?

What about introducing / safely releasing her to the new package of bees she came with? The hive is new and there's no drawn comb in it yet. New beekeeper, here, who just got his bees in yesterday. How would you introduce her or release her from her little wood cage to help assure they wouldn't kill her? Thanks.
@randymccracken8914
@randymccracken8914 Жыл бұрын
In my opinion that cage would come with issues it needs to go to the mid rib of the comb the legs will but the walls don’t and the bees will chew under that cage in no time. I use metal push in cages that go all the way to the mud rib so bees can’t chew under and if not used on plastic foundation I’ve seen bees chew through from the other side on wax foundation

Thanks David! I have a question! If you have a laying worker hive and you borrow a frame from another hive that has a good queen with 1-2 days eggs inside + brood that is ready to emerge and you also introduce a new queen in a cage, how long takes for the new queen to start laying eggs ? And if they decide to make their own queen is that upcoming queen going to be a good one, or the royal milk that they feed the new queen is not a good one because it comes from a laying worker? Thanks again!

They are not. No bees can pass trough that cage. Any bees trapped inside will stay inside.

I am going to get two queens. My two hives are without any capped brood. Lots of bees but no queen, and no queen cells, as they don’t have real eggs, as I guess a laying worker is on duty. So I will get them 2 brood frames with eggs and capped brood from other hives on each, and introduce new mated queen to each one. Wait 24 hours , than open the safety plastic. Does this makes sense? Where to get that plastic thing? Another thing. Should I shake frames out before introducing the queen? Far-way or doesn’t matter? Thanks

I assume this is something were you need to take this frame of choice away from the hive to place the cage, insert queen and than take it back to the hive, so you are not dealing with the workers.

Bees that come in and out of the push cage won’t kill the new queen in the first few days?
@blackberry5908
@blackberry5908 Жыл бұрын
No bees can escape that cage. You have to come release the queen by yourself. On day of the introduction the only bees inside that cage will be the queen and the bees that came when you bought her. After few days the newly emerged bees will fill that cage. Note that that if you leave that queen ling enough bees can dig a hole big enough and release the queen. Also note that sometimes when you remove that cage it can be hard to spot the queen right away because she moves pretty fast so before you come to a conclusion that your queen is dead make sure to inspect your frame pretty well.
