They had so many great songs, but classic rock radio only plays one T. Rex song: “Get It On (Bang A Gong)”. I used to listen to a radio station in the UK many years ago which plays so many of their hit songs. That’s how I discovered so much of their music.

20th Century Boy, Jeepster, Bang A Gong, Metal Guru, Cosmic Dancer... T-Rex were a HUGE part of the Glam Rock scene of the early 70's. T-Rex, Bowie, Slade, Gary Glitter and a few others pretty much defined that entire genre back then. "Electric Warrior" (1971) and "The Slider" (1972) are both must-have albums by this band, IMO.

@@Tessmage_Tessera listening to someone at your own discretion is completely your choice to make BUT mentioning a performer to some young people looking for suggestions of who to listen to on their reaction videos that are available worldwide surely has to be done with the thought that they may not know about that person’s crimes and would probably feel embarrassed if they made a video reacting to one of their songs only to be slated for doing so. So though you may see some importance in his music, for many if not most, the despicable nature of his crimes far outweigh his prowess as a performer. (I am by no means claiming that you suggested that they should react to him but it is highly plausible that they could see his name, think it sounded fun and go for it)

Love this track. Always takes me back to when I saw Bowie at the Milton Keynes Bowl. He played this over the PA after his show ended and the whole crowd filed out arm in arm and hand in hand singing along 'La la la la la la la'. Epic moment. Marc Bolan is a legend. Great songwriter, and he and David Bowie were good friends. I always appreciated that nod of respect from Dave (who I saw live 6 times). What an era that was.

A couple of T-Rex songs feature in the movie 'Billy Elliot' which you should *definitely* add to your movie channel if you haven't seen it (you won't regret it).Anyway, the tracks are, 'I Love to Boogie' & 'Cosmic Dancer.' This is the classic performance, from the BBC's weekly pop programme Top of the Pops, where Marc Bolan "invented" Glam Rock simply by putting some glittery make-up beneath his eyes! (The make-up was his stylist's idea). Typically, the Beeb wiped the master tapes but luckily this performance survives because it was used on German TV who were much better at maintaining an archive. The dancers are TOTP's resident dance troupe Pan's People who would usually perform when an artist was unable to appear in the studio but also did extras like this. T Rex performed Hot Love for a second time on TOTP and that also survives. Pan's People also appear again, this time not in costume, leading a group of audience members.

In all my 50 years, the only T. Rex song I've ever heard is Bang a Gong, so thanks for introducing me to another hot one.

Hate to say this, but I went to see T-Rex live back in the day. The opening act was the Doobie Brothers on their first tour. The Doobies were fantastic. T-Rex came out and Bolan could barely stand up, let alone play and sing. The crowd started booing them off the stage and chanting “We want the Doobie Brothers!!” Bolan was an addict and somehow survived as long as he did.

This is a great track so if you like this try listening to I Love to Boogie and Ride a White Swan. Marc Bolan shared a flat with David Bowie and mentored him and actually gave Bowie his break on British TV. T-Rex had around 20 hits and a big star in the UK when he was killed in a car crash driving head-on into a tree.

He of course was not driving, it was his girlfriend at the wheel. Sadly Marc knew he would never make old bones, he said as much in an interview.

Yesrs ago our local radio had a thing where you could send in a request for an oldie and a current song to be played back to back and I sent in Hot Love by T-Rex and Missionary Man by the Eurythmics (yes, years ago!) Took weeks, but they played it, I was beside myself!

This is reminiscent of a lot of the rock coming out at that time. Mainly becaause Marc Bolan was such a force. His vocal Style everywhere in his contemporaries like Bowie, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Freddy Merch, Jagger, etc.

Around 1971, T Rex were HUGE in England but most Americans just didn't get it. They had one big American hit with "Get It On (Bang A Gong)" but that was it for them in this country. The only big acts from the British glam rock movement to crack America were David Bowie, and to a lesser extent The Sweet and Mott The Hoople. T Rex and Slade only had cult followings in the USA.

Bowie only cracked america when he dropped Ziggy and went blue eyed soul with Young Americans. Men in make up and womens clothing didn't go down well in fundamentalist christian america until the 80's with Motley Crue and co.

It's a crime that T-Rex had never really conquered America except for "Get It On". Marc Bolan was a major influence on artists like KISS and Prince as well as David Bowie and The Sweet. Go go glaaam rock!! :-D

T Rex, lead by Marc Bolan did some great tracks, again in 70's. This was another one by them that was good to dance to and popular at parties.Marc Bolan tragically died in 1977 in a car crash. Another couple of good ones are Twentieth Century Boy and Jeepster. From this era a popular great band you haven't done yet are Roxy Music, so come on guys check out Virginia Plain,Love is the Drug or Danceaway.
