it's situational owing to the gamified context of WT Sim EC but in non-MTI SRC the radar can actually find people out to 60-90km a lot of the time, especially if they're a bit higher than you and you're above a couple km

When im playing the MLD on sim, i always bring a combo of both R-24T and 24R. The 24T with IRST lock is perfect for stealthy attacks as the enemy isn't even aware you're locked on. Also since SIM has very limited view thanks to lack of 3rd person camera, IR missile attacks are more viable. And the R-24R in case the enemy becomes aware and starts popping flares, so launch an R-24R to finish them off. Best launched ≥10km range so the missile wont run out of energy

I love R-24R and take two of them so I can have more R-24Rs because I love them nobody EVER expects the 1200m dogfight R-24R when they extend slightly spamming flares to try and energy trap or whatever they're also kinematic monsters, it's like they were custom designed to be effective counter-launching at sparrows and sniping their source of guidance. if they're at any decent range and you launch less than 2 seconds after them + crank, you will always hit first, no matter what if you launch them fast and high, which admittedly isn't an opportunity very often owing to MTI's limitations, they can genuinely be terrifyingly capable. no amount of cranking ever seems to save my victims from a decent launch. they either beat the missile through deception measures/turning cold/terrain masking as can save you from any missile, or they simply die

@thegenericguy8309 thing about R-24R is you need constant radar lock. So they may stay away or notch from you. Switching to IRST means they will ignore you closing in, and hence R-24T

@@sooryan_1018 if they're ignoring you closing in, you're already so fast that an extra ten seconds will get you to R-60M range anyways, or you can simply close enough that they won't be able to get to safety before tagging to radar and punching a 24R their way. in my experience that's an even better ambush tactic than 24Ts regardless as they won't accidentally or purposefully flare it last second

In all of WT, this is the plane I've had the most fun flying. Each sortie yields a lot of points. If there are no attacker/bomber missions going on, I'll go out with two napalm bombs and two R24R. Usually I'll catch a poor soul on my way to bomb, sometimes I see nobody so I just rocket back to base at Mach 2.2. That plane is basically untouchable, 70% of my deaths are from accidental wing rip while am focused on hunting someone in front of me 😅

Probably the only plane I would ever play with an open cockpit. You literally can't see anything with that huge beam in the cockpit

You can but you have to constantly slightly offset your circle vertically which isn’t great for rate fights cause you literally transform it to either an upper spiral or combination of high and low yo-yo manoeuvres and it gives your opponents an opportunity to force 1C which any of 23 doesn’t like. I never fly with open canopy cause I think it’s very unrealistic and unfair but man…. that bar is soooooo annoying that sometime even I really want to open it🙃

mig-23 was never planned for dogfight thus this whacky cockpit and headrest, as an interceptor for bombers and CAS it is great also one of the best front aspect jet at 11.3 No doubt its my best grinder on this bracket mainly because this BR is full of bombers and Chinese bots and this ML is doing great with them.

ML is pretty rough in sim compared to the MLD, older RWR majorly damages the already poor awareness and the lack of dogfighting upgrades means it loses against many of the fighters at the tier.

honestly I love this thing, it's a super solid plane all-around and its nice to be able to just fly around with IRST and turn your brain off. only things I don't like about it is the poor visibility and the squirt gun, I really like it on the Fishbeds but not so much on the Flogger

it still sustains 22-23 degrees per second. it might be the dogshit average skill level of enemies at the tier but I can't remember ever losing a dogfight to an F-4 of any kind post-FM nerf, it's very capable

Man cant believe i never thought of breaking the canppy imma try this always hated the mig 23 coz of the situatipnal awareness. Probably try it on the gripen too i hat3 that little line sometimes i zoom in and it blocks the target.

I hate how IRL the MiG-23s have the lead indicator in the HUD, also whats wrong with the IRST on the MiG-23? I use it regularly and I haven't seen any problems?

@@sealboyy6584 If you adjust the tilt control on it...it will lock to the top position and doesn't actually detect targets. If you aren't using manual tilt on radar then you probably have never ran into the bug. It's the same one as the Su-27 had a few months ago.

@@hungrymidget3896 If you use the tilt control it's FoV gets locked to the top of its range and doesn't actually detect anything. It's the same bug that the Su-27 had a few months ago.

The simplest solution to the idle farming at the 10.0+ BRs would be to remove the mini bases (and score reward from airfield modules) and add more ground targets to compensate. Mini bases are a mechanic from days when all we had were bomb scopes or divebombing, it makes no sense at tiers with access to guided weapons. Make the people actually play the game even if they just focus on AI targets. At least that way they need to loiter in the area of the ground battles longer and do something other than fly back and forth in a straight line. Also, VR fixes most of the problems with the cockpit, and makes you understand why they could design it this way.
