It has a 16 hour fasting window and is all it takes for you to go from being someone with a regular metabolism to being someone with a lightning fast metabolism. The intermittent fasting diet is the best diet when it comes to weight loss, fat loss or muscle gain. Just by altering your meal timings, it IS possible to improve your metabolism as well as become a FAT BURNING MACHINE. BeerBiceps my parents are really orthodox, bro. Even showing them the video won't help. We also eat white rice everyday and they don't listen to me when I tell them to get brown rice instead of white. This really gets me down a lot because I want to lose a lot of body fat and I workout really hard in the gym, but the diet is never in my control😅

Yeah, I unknowingly did this during college. I would leave home in a hurry and miss breakfast. Then would have lunch during college breaktime. Then in the evening I would have junk food (cheese franky, vada pav, etc). And then out of guilt skip dinner 😜😂. I lost about 12-15 kgs without even knowing. My parents were worried about me. Unfortunately I never weighed myself so I don't know what my weight was. I think it took about 5-6 months.

Doing the intermittent fasting from past 3 weeks and have lost 5 kg and still continuing to loose. Started eating my dinner at 6 PM instead of usual 9 PM and having that 16 hours gap before consuming next meal , stopped eating sugars completely, started having smaller portion sizes and good amount of protein. Never felt lethargic or lazy due to less food intake and do 1 hour walk 3 days a week and 3 days weight training. Thanks for giving the science of intermittent fasting. Getting closer to my dream body every day inch by inch. :-)

Hi, I have a question, I eat my last bite for the day at 8pm by night and have my first bite not before 9 am in the next morning. Does it mean I have been Intermittent Fasting? I know the duration has to be around 16 hours or so but still in my case its like around 12 - 13 hours. But with this comes another question- I think most of the people has a routine like this unknowingly that it is something called Intermittent Fasting, so like every normal person is Intermittent Fasting?

I feel the most important benefits would be: 1) Being in a fasted state allows the body to autophage (clean up) senescent cells (your old cells that have accumulated junk protein products and have now stopped reproducing). Senescent cells are associated with ageing, and may be precancerous cells. Multiple studies, including a 2009 Nature review article, have looked at the association between fasting, aging and cancer. Several proteins such as SIRT1 and and HUR are known to be involved, and although the complete bio-molecular pathway is not yet identified, but current findings are promising. This is all related to the studies showing that calorie restriction (therefore fasting) reliably increases lifespan 30-50% across diverse mammalian species (rats, dogs, etc). 2) Being in a fasted state is when the recycling of old and defective mitochondria occurs. Mitochondria are your cellular power plant, there are thousands of them within each cell, and they convert glucose into ATP, the energy molecule uses by intracellular processes. Similar to senescent cells, old mitochondria have accumulated damage to their DNA as well as degraded proteins and, when defective, they produce more reactive oxygen species (ROS) than clean energy (ATP). Overall, it seems our bodies are great at clean up and healing on a cellular level when they aren’t busy breaking down food and converting it into new proteins or fats.

BeerBiceps Hey man, I've liked your channel since a while. However, I disliked this video because I think it is spreading misinformation. Most people have metabolisms ( the sum of their catabolic and anabolic activities) relatively within 100-200kCal of each other. It is physiologically impossible for you to "boost" your metabolism or "burn more fat" by following any diet. You literally cannot increase your hormone levels to surpaphysiological (the dose at which say having higher HGH or Insulin or Testosterone actually starts making a significant difference) doses unless you take exogenous hormones. It's statistically impossible and not in accordance with human physiology. Unless you have a metabolic disorder which affects your Thyroxine levels or a GI Disorder like Crohn's which affects calorie absorption; NO Diet is going to burn "more" or "less" fat. It all comes down to a thermodynamic deficit which will cause your body to metabolize adipose or muscle mass for gluconeogenesis. Summary: All diets work for regular people . All you need is a calorie deficit. No diet works better than the other one physiologically ( ofc ur ability to follow a diet makes one or the other better) I do have a B.S in Human Physiology and currently am in medical school so I'm not some random stranger talking about something he doesn't know. So please man, fix your video since I hate when people read up a few studies on the internet and wikipedia two terms and start spreading misinformation. Your channel has a wide audience.

Annsh Bhandari I don't think he ever denied that calorific deficit is required to burn fat, infact he emphasizes it. secondly when did he say this improves your metabolism? Calorific deficit > Meal timing. the point of the video was that apart from calorific deficit , meal frequency and timing can be manipulated to optimize fat loss and restrict muscle loss on a deficit. what you heard : 'Skip breakfast and you'll improve your metabolism and lose fat magically since your hormones get fixed ' that is absolutely not true. lesser insulin spikes are any day preferred, to deny that is foolishness. I don't understand how you have not heard about intermittent fasting being a medical student. really makes me question our modern medicine , which treats the symptoms more than the root cause. Fun fact : Look up autophagy, glucagon , studies on meal frequency and timing . autophagy is where the body heals the cells in the absence of food. to blatantly state this video is wrong is a disgrace to rightful information and the modern studies which are cited. Come out of your comfort zone nutritionist /doctor bubble and embrace other things open mindedly. how do you know the studies in your so called schools are not misinformation? they were based off of lab experiments and clinical trials too. I really pity your future patients.

Hi Beerbiceps, Thanks for talking about Intermittent fasting. I m so glad that at least somebody is talking about it in India on youtube. I like ur videos, as they are very knowledgeable and backup with science. I m pure veg (unfortunately;)), and doing intermittent fasting from past 1 months and it gave me great results. I m an insulin resistance person (which I myself research on net). and found this way of fat loss technique. I only eat 2 times in a day n follow 16:8 hrs window. means one meal at 11.30 am then 2nd meal at 7.30 pm. with no munching n snacking all the day. and got great results. I hv osteoporosis and osteoarthritis,so I m unable to do squad, n much exercise, also I don't like exercise much. but by following strict n nutritious diet I m able to loose 20 kg weight in 1.5 yrs. I want u to make another video on some correction to this 8 hrs of eating, coz again if we will constantly/periodically eat ( even if munching) in between 8 hrs, then also in every eating insulin 'll go high, n 'll again restrict for weight n fat loss. also put some body symptoms of insuline resistance, I m sure u 'll find that. thank u so much for this incredible information, once again.

hey following dr. berg, good. I am a South Indian, from my child hood we eat only two times a day. one in the afternoon and one at 8pm. The breakfast concept is adopted by Westerners. I am seeing this after 6 months of I.F. I lost about 17 kgs just following I.F and 2 hours of brisk walking daily.. Apart from weight loss better digestion, not being bloated, being energetic are the improvements I have noticed..

Very informative video. I have started 16-8 hours IF fasting but the only difference is I sleep while I'm fasting because I work at night and sleep during the day time. My fueling window is 9PM- 6AM. and fast throughout the day.

Working out is just yoga poses. You end up having muscles. Not the bulky way. You won't find much difference in your body weight but fir sure you will look leaner and muscular. It's like being the most concentrated version of yourself from being the diluted version.

@@rishiraj5184 you can do IF anytime like from 5pm to next day 9-10am also. Just try to do 14:10 , 15: 9 , 16:8. Most effective is 16:8.

Thanks for the inputs Ranveer! Just a question. If the last activity I do is hitting the gym(I am usually done by 11 pm) should I have my protein shake which preferably would be my last meal before or after gym ? Because it may be difficult to maintain the 12-16 hour fasting window if I do not consume anything after gym but again eating something post my workout would allow me to only eat the next day at 3 which maybe a bit too much.

Thank you so so much for this video Ranveer. I was interested in IF but was worried about loosing muscle mass and getting low on energy. Very useful video, you didn’t just explain IF but also lined up all the necessary information which is making my life easier. I don’t have to go through all of videos to crosscheck and be doubtful of what I decided to take up now. And good to see men and a lady both posing in the thumbnail.
