I think what's interesting about this intro is how it's more balls-to-the-wall batshit insane, not shying away from anything that can scare kids. From the opening shot of Beetlejuice's corpse and his eyes opening up to him rising out of his grave like a bat out of hell, it was like the creators were making it a test to see if kids were actually ready to watch this show or ready to change the channel. I was pretty young when I first saw this intro and it never freaked me out as much compared to anything else Burton had worked on.

True - there was this weird vogue in the 90s for making franchised children's cartoons out of films that were never meant for kids and were not in any way appropriate for kids. The Mask, The Addams Family, Beetlejuice, Ghostbusters. The Addams Family cartoon was particularly bland, formulaic and generally awful, as I recall. This one somehow managed to succeed, probably by not being remotely canon. In the original film, Beetlejuice is a creepy, dangerous, predatory pervert who tries to half-force, half-trick underage Lydia into *marrying* him, just to get himself out of the afterlife via a loophole. In the cartoon, he's now - somehow - her bestie. Work that one out.
