FYI, those aren't plastic tank covers. They're aluminum. Plus, the throttle response can be changed with swapping it for a R6 throttle tube. It is a game changer. Try it, you'll love the bike even more.

I recently bought an xsr900, I have been in std mode which was pretty good but a week ago I decided to give B mode a try and I really like it a lot! B gives a smoother ride with the full power, very smooth throttle control! I am an experienced rider and I highly recommend B mode, still gives me the same fun factor, love it!

I know one bike that doesn't have as touchy a throttle, that Thruxton next to it. A completely different bike with 1/2 the power of the XSR. To me, owning both as you do, reflects your 'range' in appreciation of the sport. Thanks for your observations. PS. I will say, with all the outcry about the throttle response of the XSR by so many owners, I am pretty shocked you haven't reflashed the ECU or put a R6 throttle tube on it which is transformational as noted in the comments. Ride safe.

Thanks Luke. As fun as the XSR was I never fell in love with it. It just made me want to go bad things. That said I sold the XSR and bought a Triumph Street triple. Not as fun but is better balanced and more composed on poor pavement. And I still have the Thruxton

I had a 2018 model. Mostly rode it in A mode and I developed a very delicate throttle hand. I kinda got used to it, but it always took a while to feel comfortable again when I hadn't been able to ride for a while. However, I got a better rear shock and swapped the fork springs and that really helped the bike. It still wasn't comfortable, but the better quality components worked so much better, especially on crappy roads. Highly recommended.

I just got XSR900 delivered, prior that I owned a CBR1000RR Fireblade for 10 years, before that ZX6R for 4 years, and before that Aprilia RS125 two-stroke for 2 years. I've never owned a non-sport bike so I hope I'll be ok. I love the look of XSR900 and defo I'm starting to feel my age when I ride so I need to sit more comfortably 😉

I have a 2019 and love it for 1-3 hour rides...I did the Aky carbon and ECU tune...at 11k miles I am on my 3rd back tire...the hole shot on this thing in magnificent...My favorite thing about this bike it the torque...super fast off the line...at 110 mph I usually shut it down...not suitable for long high speed riding due to wind....and I've learned to fine modulate between clutch and throttle to tame this little beast.
@PEZ15142 жыл бұрын
You really have to ride it like a dirt bike at low speed.
@lechtaczka12722 жыл бұрын
I might have a different opinion on this one. I love the jerky throttle, this is where all the fun comes from, if you dont like it, change engine map to STD instead of A, and you're good to go buddy, or even B mode if you are new to the bike, also adjust the TCS levels and you are golden. Should you have few years of experience under your belt before getting this one ? Absolutely.

Interestingly I was searching for KLX140RF vids and watched your review about that first and then saw this vid. I'm thinking about getting a 140RF for scrambling around in steep woods where a bigger, taller, heavier bike would be a pain to deal with. You can fix the throttle on XSR with an ECU flash for a couple hundred bucks.. I still have to do that on my 2017. My throttle isn't terrible though, I think they adjusted it from '16 to '17, and I've heard they are different from bike to bike because of issues with tuning the potentiometer or consistency in the potentiometers they use- or something like that. Also this is sort of a hybrid "drive by wire", as it has a throttle cable too. I carefully adjusted throttle slack and made it a little better though. I bought a TW200 and three months later got this as my first street bike. Still have both, both great bikes. Problem with the XSR is that once I get on it, I don't want to stop riding it! It's so much fun, and has more power than I'll ever need. The suspension and frame geometry do let it down, but that also probably adds to the "fun" or "terror".. however you want to look at it. 😆

Couldn't agree more. I've got a silver/red 2019 model with now 35,000 kms on it. Biggest problem is the angle of the throttle and the upright style bars. I used to own a TRX850 with clip ons. Seriously either going Hurricane Fat Swallow clubman bars or Tommaselli adjustable clip ons. Just can't gel with the std handlebars. They are great bikes though.....

I agree, the throttle is a little touchy on my XSR as well... I like your crash cage! Wondering what model/brand it is? Thinking of sending my ECU off to someone to get flashed, apparently that can solve the throttle response woes, and improve on the notoriously lean tune it comes from Yamaha with.

You’re a big dude like me, this suspension wasn’t meant for us. I splurged and got ohlins front and back, but you could get a better OEM shock from like a ZX-10 and cartridge kit for your forks for under $1000 and it’ll be way better. It’s just so much more enjoyable in the corners now that the suspension isn’t straining under my fat ass. Also get your throttle re-mapped with an ECU flash. I haven’t yet but will for next season. People who hate the throttle (doesn’t bother me as much) say it’s night and day.
@71455olds2 жыл бұрын
I agree 100% all that would fix the bike. But I found the most cost effective fix was to sell it and buy a Triumph Street Triple. I find 675 far easier to ride quickly I do really miss the grunt of the Yamaha But out of the box the Triumph makes feel more confident.

Hello mister, I have a question. I`m 32, looking to get my 1st bike, been driving for 10 years, and I`m looking at this bike because I love the way it looks/sounds. I know its not a begginer bike, but do you think a mature begginer would be able to grow into it without getting himself killed ? I`ve had a fast car in the past, and I quickly learned to respect the power, would my previous experience help me with this bike if I would get it ? Thanks anyway !
@71455olds2 жыл бұрын
Honestly the 900 is a handful and a fast car does not compare to a fast motorcycle when things get out of hand. I have a M5 and it feels slow compared to a bike. Honestly fr your 1st bike buy a used inexpensive bike and make sure you like it. You will never loose money on a used beginner bike as there is always a new rider who wants to get into the sport. For a 1st street bike I suggest a low cruiser like a Yamaha vstar 650.(see my review on why) If you really are set on a sporty naked bike a Suzuki SV650 is a great bike. Both are inexpensive and you will sell for what you paid for it. Get a season under your belt and after a year you will know what you really want. My my case I sold the XRS900 and bought a Triumph Street Triple 675 and so far am very happy with the 675 although I do miss the low rpm hit of the Yamaha.

It's got ABS, traction control, and wheelie control. It's ideal first bike for a new rider... because it will wrap them in cotton wool. They can't crash something this protective. And then they'll switch the electronics off one day, because they think they're a hero, and it'll send them through a hedge. I'm fundamentally opposed to all these needless gadgets. If you can't operate a vehicle like this, without all these gadgets, you shouldn't be near it but people will buy it.
