My "friends" gossip on me or that is what I think, I wish I could prove it, I see how out of control they talk when they get excited but I didn't see them gossiping about close friends yet, not sufficiently to be sure I should leave them yet anyway. I am loossing confidence in them, I think I gonna go my on way.

We’re harsh towards others because we’re harsh towards ourselves. Society places ridiculous expectations on us and we fail to meet them of course so we tear ourselves down and in turn do the same towards others. Someone who is full of self-love and in a positive place wouldn’t gossip about others.
@wandalee5010

I heard an amazingly positive thing about “good gossip” from a child psychologist on a KZbin video, he said after you praise someone (a child) let them overhear you whispering about their good accomplishment to someone else, even if you are pretending on the phone. Overhearing gossip is three times more powerful both negatively and positively than someone telling you something straight to your face. So let’s all try to spread good words about others to others, build each other up instead of tearing them down, life is hard enough without adding to it by intentionally hurting others.

The most amazing thing is that I never indulged in gossiping until the last year. I shifted and the people around me changed. I participated in gossiping to mix in or just to fit in. Everyone was so into it. I remember one of my 'friends' telling me how she loved gossiping and I thought that was just weird...I mean, who openly says that they love gossiping? And I just realized that I was trying to fit in with the wrong people. Gossiping had put such a stress on my brain that I was frustrated at the end of the day, and I would blame the new environment for the frustration. Gossiping is one thing that will hold you back. Even if you are not afraid that your superiority is temporary owing to gossiping, believe me when I say this - It will place immense stress upon your brain and you won't even realize it until like 2 years of your life have been wasted owing to frustration, unexplained anger, and annoyance.

Although we don't want to gossip its so contagious that you get yourself into this cause if you don't you don't fit into the peer group and stand out weird ...but its true that gossip has a negative impact. Better not to gossip about anyone and get away from the ones who do so subtly without hurting their feelings too diplomatically.

That can totally happen at work ; and that's a reason why I hate this place sometimes. Gossiping is an easy way to feel connected to people but it's so insidious. Why do you think people listen to the gossips without answering back ? I think it isolates people and instils a climate of distrust against each other. Have you ever listen or participate at a gossip session and wondered "do they talk behind my back when I'm not here ?". I feel that sometimes you have the opportunity to encourage more positivity and honesty at your workplace, and sometimes it isn't worth the effort because the climate is already messed up.

I’ve had jobs (and am currently in one) that are toxic environments. I’ve learned over the years to keep myself out of pointless discussions about other people. I just show up, keep my head down, do my work, and then go home. I also never voluntarily share information about my personal life, and when asked, I keep my answers as vague ad possible. My motto: “people can’t talk about what they don’t know about.” It’s actually quite horrible because I was asked a very personal question recently while many of my coworkers were in our staff break room by a MANAGER. I just stuck to my guns and just kept my answer vague. If she really wanted to know she could pull me aside and ask me privately. Not that it would have answered her question because there’s no way in hell I’d tell anyone (not even bosses/managers) anything even somewhat personal about my life. I even once just made an offhand comment about something in private to the same manager (I don’t remember what it was but it wasn’t even that bad) and by the time I was midway through my shift, half the people I work with knew about it. And that was MANAGEMENT.

I've never felt the inclination to gossip but have been on the receiving end more than a few times, hearing outright lies of what I have been supposed to have said. It is utterly hurtful, destructive & puzzling. I'm always polite & believe a little kindness goes a long way as you never *really* know what someone else's life is truly like... I am an avid comments section reader on YT & am often horrified at some of the mean-spirited or even completely foul posts I see, wondering if anonymity makes such hate-filled people braver or whether they just *are* that negative in life. I tend to live by the premise that "Harbouring hate & anger is like drinking poison while expecting the other person to die" & know that I'd just rather not live that way.

The people who abused me were very malicious gossips. It's like in high school all over again, you tell someone something in confidence and even though you don't see them telling others, all of a sudden there are people you don't know making fun of you for it to your face. So you confront them, "Did you tell people about me?" and they deny it, even though you know that you didn't tell anyone anything that would have gotten around otherwise. I had people recognizing me on the streets and mocking me to my face and smirking smugly at me even though I had never seen them before in my entire life. A few times people even said something to me related to my life that I hadn't told that person. I made a joke to one of my family members about a Christmas story called the nutcracker, and I did the stiff arm and leg movement oddly, and I realized it looked too much like the Nazi salute/march so I got embarrassed and stopped doing it and then turned to someone I knew and joked about it, and then later one of the people who bullied me appeared near me with a group of their friends, like 5-7 people, and one of them ended up copying the exact same arm and leg movements right in front of me even though I had never told that person about it since I didn't know that person. Where I saw them was between my bus stop and where I was required to be, and I think they knew that. Do you know what it looks like to see recognition on a strangers face? It looks like surprise, like, "Oh, that person is here? I didn't realize they would be here". People will brush me off that they can't control how I feel and they won't walk on eggshells but then they'll intentionally pick at me as if they have no control over that. Personally I think that's really immature, and potentially abusive if they don't own up to the fact that they're denying my experiences/reality. Popularity contests and exaggerated bullying and malicious gossiping are all traits of a teenager, as adults people should know better, but that doesn't mean people do. Being an adult doesn't mean you're mature. There is this psychological functioning of the brain where if a person proves one thing true of a statement that others think the entire statement is automatically true. A manipulator would abusively use this to defame others that what they're saying is true by using bits and pieces of truth to support a more fictional claim or assertion. If you compare a person's behavior to like behavior that's acceptable. But if you try to assert that a person is like a character entirely including information that isn't true then that's not acceptable. Obviously the difference would have to be clarified otherwise if you simply make comparisons without stating your true intentions and without comforting the person that you don't think they're a certain way then it can get abusive. Obviously comparing me to a monster in a video game who is unforgiving isn't the same as just trying to prove my personality. If I can't literally be a literal monster because literal monsters don't exist then it's obviously not a person/people simply comparing like behavior. Manipulators like to give half-truths, and obviously people should fall back onto the old addage of "don't believe everything you read". That said, the question is, is something true to begin with, or did someone make it true when it wasn't in the first place? The facts as they are will prove one way or another.

You know what? In the Holy Quran gossiping is likened to eating the flesh of your own brother. It says that we will loathe the mere thought of doing it, so in that way we should loathe gossiping /backbiting /talking behind someone's back!
