When you quit I had 9 subs, and you gave some of the best advice I had heard at the time. And it’s something I do in every video that I do, and it’s to record in sections, don’t stress yourself out trying to record the entire video in one sitting or you will lose your mind. You don’t know or understand how much impact that had on me. I watched a ton of your videos/shorts and today I am at 78k subs. Glad you are back.
@VanessaLau8 ай бұрын
That is AMAZING!!! Yes - it was one of the game changing things I did! I also now don't put too much pressure because I know I can maybe add some additional commentary later using my iPhone camera (i did this a lot in my last video that I uploaded about why i quit my 7 fig biz) - in fact, it makes the video feel a bit more "vlog style" when I do that. This makes me so happy, congrats on the 78k subs!!

That's some powerful inspiration! Even though I've heard the same advice (I guess from the same video 😁), I still want to record a smooth video…. And end up losing the motivation to do anything at all 🥺 Congrats on 78k!!!😊

Awesome video. I am small KZbinr, and I think that for small channels the most important thing is to get good presence from the beginning. If you are not popular, people won't care even if you have the best videos and the best content on platform. I am not beginner anymore, but I know how hard it can be (and honestly if I didn't use a lot of Fame- ster, I would have quit a long time ago. It made everything much easier for me, especially getting to 1000 subs and view hours).
@CROIXsather7 ай бұрын
One of the most valuable YT videos for new creators out there, bar none. I am surprised that youtube penalized you so severely, so quickly. Obviously it would happen, but much faster. But also encouraging that there is also staying power and sustainability. This is is a lesson on how important it is to build a business outside of YT and that YT should be seen as lead gen and a bonus to a complete business.

Can confirm two weeks later youtube is definitely pushing your content. I’m brand new to it and a video showed up on my front browse page as a recommended video. Then I watched a few more, and this morning, KZbin made this one the first on my “you might like” list. So, welcome back! Looking forward to seeing your older content & what you have coming up!

I wish I had seen this video 2 years ago! I abandoned my first KZbin channel because I wanted to pivot. I thought I’d have more success with my new content on Instagram. It worked out to an extent. I had some reels go viral and boost my account very quickly. But unfortunately, I didn't have the systems in place to sustain the growth, nor had I really thought long-term about my instagram strategy. I had no idea how volatile instagram was, and I didn't realize that reels were going to have to become the lifeblood of my account. In the end, I burnt out. If I could do it over I would re-invest all of my efforts into growing my KZbin channel. A couple good things came out of instagram, but choosing to focus on it instead of YT was a mistake in my opinion.

RE- KZbin revenue The break you took was a year, so that's a LONG time I found that in certain times of the year, a break for a month or two- my ad revenue is the same, even higher, as some of my evergreen videos get picked up that time of year no matter how much I post. BUT, great video all together, also the previous one. Happy to see you back. Been considering that break as well for myself, a longer one, not just a month or two...

I want to come back but I wanna come back with a different niche and I’m just terrified I feel frozen. I don’t know what to do. My channel is very small, but I’m afraid to lose the little bit of followers that I have because it cost me so much time, effort, money, mainly because it was a product based channel but that’s not here or there. I’m hoping I can find the strength through your return to be able to do the same with my channel thank you so much Vanessa, we love you so much

She may never come back and that's okay, but if she does I know whatever insights she'll share with us will be GOLD! And you didn't disappoint! I especially resonated with the part of the video talking about being unsure about the results of your decisions but being confident in your reasons for your decisions. I'm in a season where I'm letting go of my old business model and approaching things differently. I don't know what the results of this decision will be but I'm so aligned to my reasons. I appreciate the in depth video and analysis of both Instagram and KZbin and gave me confidence in my decision to leave Instagram due to the reasons you've listed. I started off on IG sharing my fitness journey, then it turned into a business, with all the changes and updates happening every so often, I find myself shifting my content, eg how I edit, what Im suposed to say to get the attention to be relevant, I honestly felt that I lost myself and that I didn't feel truly authentic. (this is on me and something I need to work on), I found myself comparing and I hated it (I resonated with your first vid). I decided to put my efforts in KZbin this year, I've posted a few videos sharing my personal stories, giving the value of how I wanted it to be in my own unique style and way. And youtube has pushed my content out and am very grateful for that. Also, I have been following your journey since your make up vlogs days, since you started KZbin wayyyyy back, I was sad to hear you leave and genuinely wished you much needed rest, and seeing you come back with refreshed energy is so warming to see. You are one of a kind and I appreciate your influence on your loyal fans 💜

Hi Vanessa! I’m so happy I have found your channel as your content is really helping me. KZbin recommended your last video to me. I watched on my kitchen tv. Loved it and took a photo on my phone as a reminder to find you and subscribe. Today KZbin recommended this video. The most surprising thing for me is how quickly a video can gain thousands of views with hardly any followers. I’ve only just started creating properly on KZbin and my latest video gained a thousand views in 24 hours. It’s going up and up, proving your theory right as I have hardly any followers. 😮 Will keep watching you for more tips! Thank you so much! 🤩

I've been really considering going full time on KZbin with my gaming channel as it's very difficult to balance with a 9to5, but luckily I've managed to save up a whole year's salary to give this a real shot! I'm still holding on to my 9to5 to give myself more prep time like putting together templates, assets, etc, but more importantly to make sure it's even financially viable in my niche. Either way, thank you for this advice! I'm going to keep everything I've learned here (and other sources) in mind the day I decide to go full time on KZbin.

Is was wield that our "Why I Quit" video popped up a few days ago. As I mentioned in the comment of that video, I was not aware you were gone. I knew your videos didn't pop up like before and with trying to jump start again my KZbin channel, I didn't pay that much attention. Maybe it was a reason it did show and I watched that video and completed this one. I came to the realization if I wanted to make income through KZbin, I should have been on it between 5 and 10 yours ago. All I want to do is to build a platform for young and upcoming DJs can use as a reference when it is needed. I figured as long as I am consistent and it helps that is all it matters.

Your first video back was pushed out to me yesterday and I had never seen you before (great videos - this is the second video I've seen now) and watching your second video, I'm subscribed now 😊 I think the reasons you left were good for your mental health and relationships - honestly I think the results will ultimately be good too, since you have grown as a person and you are happier so you can think of more creative ideas that probably stopped sometime pre-break when you were on the hamster wheel just doing what everyone else was doing. Sometimes taking a break is a perfect way to shake it up and be more yourself! KZbin I feel is great too since I will watch older content all the time, especially when newer content is so over the top. I don't like Instagram at all, that instant gratification and following purge stuff is so toxic and now I don't have any "social media" other than KZbin. I feel like KZbin has it all now, the long form, the short form, and the community posts (pictures) and polls.

This is such an eye opener especially for new creators like myself on to do's and don't as it gets too overwhelming at times. I am one of those who started on KZbin in Jan this year and because of some of the learnings mentioned here such as "selling your own products", I did have an offer attached from my first video which has given me 1x sale so far with only 16 subscribers. I must say that it is not even a well crafted offer as I am just a beginner but it has value in it and I am motivated and committed to advance not only my offer but the knowledge from creators like yourself who are helping us (others creators big or small) change our lives through your experiences. We truly appreciate you and your assurances for beginners like myself that it is possible for us too to be big one day if we we have a mindset shift. I am so glad i found you and happy you are back🎉...Much ❤

I have to say: I had no idea who you are, I haven't seen any of your content before you came back. But the last one popped up on my YT home page and I found it so interesting. I haven't even opened my own business or started as a content creator yet but have been informing myself and searched for related content, strategies and other usefull things since November 2022. And still, your content wasn't something that was suggested to me. Until you posted after your sabbatical. And the only reason why I even clicked on that video was because I wanted to know what would happen if I put all the work in for years and have a moment where I NEED to take a break. And I know already this moment will come for sure. Your way of presenting your experiences, talking openly about what has been going on and so on was the reason why I decided to subscribe to your channel. I didn't even know you, saw one video from you, scrolled for a few seconds through your video library and thought "this will probably be interesting and valueable content for me." Here I am now, after watching this one and decided to leave a comment which I really rarely do. Probs to you. I look forward to your other videos and hope I will learn a lot from you before and after I take my own first step into being my own boss.

I absolutely love the fact that you made the power move to take a step back from your business regardless of how it would "look" to others. You prioritized your mental health and actually allowed yourself to enjoy your LIFE. We only get one of those and you were able to continuously eat during your break from the fruit of your labor throughout the years. I never followed you before but you just come across so genuine, and also having enough maturity to quit when you need to instead of getting on antidepressants and still pushing through prioritizing money is a rare quality to find. Subscribed ❤

Thank you for sharing all of this!! It’s fascinating to see behind the curtain of how KZbin and Instagram reacted to your sabbatical. Sooooooo happy you’re back 😁🎉

Thank you, Vanessa😍, for giving so much value and information. I've always been unsure about focusing on Instagram and KZbin since putting time and effort into both is hard. I clearly understood the future of being a creator on both platforms.

Health will always be more valuable than anything else in this world. Without it, we couldn't be here. ❤ I'm glad you took time off. I missed you, but only when I realized you were gone - which was just a few weeks ago - reason being? I'm a new youtuber, and I only found you about four months ago... But you had plenty enough content for me to still feel like you were with me, helping me get started on my journey. Apparently, you were off, getting some much needed, healthy fun and sun. 😎 Now you're back, I can officially thank you for showing me how to use Canva (I can thank you for teaching me; how to make my KZbin channel, and for every thumbnail that's accompanied my content). Canva can also thank you, for having an extra account🥳🙌Welcome back Vanessa!💖🌻

Welcome back Vanessa! Love your videos. I wonder though about your net positive on YT if it would’ve been the same if you announced your sabbatical on here too. You did make a big exit on IG so I wonder if your audience responded to that. It’s all interesting nonetheless and your point about the difference in communities still holds true. Thanks for sharing and inspiring!

As a small KZbinr, these tips were so helpful! I added the play all list to my links on other social media platforms. Thanks ☺️

Hi! I've started following you back in July while you were still on your break . I didn't know what I wanted to do when I grow up, and currently working an entry level job, just so I get some clarity what to do next. Your content has really helped me and I would love to give it a go as a content creator as I always thought I could work as an educator. I absolutely LOVE the idea of a potential passive income down the line. best of luck in what you're doing now. really glad to see you happy and content !

Super informative and reflective. You’ve just provided evidence for what I’ve intuitively felt for a couple of years (particularly around long form value based content being deeply important over the long term)

As always, value-packed content! Thank you! I started following your YT in 2019 (w/ another ID) and joined BGA in 2021. Last year, I kept your YT and unfollowed IG for the reasons you mentioned here. Your value is top-notch and shows through YT brightly! Can't wait for more videos. On another note, I can't help but notice the changes in your body as a sign of recovery from burnout. I'm very happy for you. My profession is in the somatic healing field, and I noticed in the last two vids you spoke slower (the former videos were like 1.3x your current speed), you have a lower tone, and your eyes are softer. Overall, those are signs that your body is more grounded, not storing high tension. Our bodies don't lie! :) Such changes are telltales of our well-being despite what we may think or say cognitively. From a grounded state, you will shine without burnout.

I was so happy for you when you took the year off. I’m so happy to see you back! I’m so happy to see your style is back. I want to do this and you’re showing me that there’s a path between education and business that creates the environment that I would like to make for a viewership. Thank You.
