My favorite filming tip was one I learned from you a long time ago and you referenced it again in this video. It's the filming in chunks. You have NO idea how much time you saved me when recording. I used to record all in one sitting and it was a nightmare. I would dread recording until I learned about filming in chunks from you. The best advice ever!

Vanessa, have been a silent follower ever since you first started your channel and it’s been inspiring to see you grow. Thought you always had great tips but I find you so much more personable, relatable and authentic than ever before. You seem so much happier too!! ☺️Whenever I watch your vids now and behold your transformation, I think of a comment someone left on one of my videos the other day: “The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are.” (Carl Jung). Keep doing you, girl!!

This is crazy! I do literally everything you're doing here with some changes - I edit the script by watching back rather than reading, I repeat the same phrases to get it right / get what I want. I also edit bits in later, and - wait for it - I even have the same comfort pose with the SAME leg underneath me 😂 ❤

i appreciate that you added the clips of you stumbing, cause I always stubble in my videos when recording and in my head i'm like "how do people know what to say without needing a script or stumbling" or I have another thought "it should not take me an hour to record a 15 minute video I need to get better at not stumbling."

Oh man, it’s such a relief watching a big creator do the same thing when trying to record something. Having to start the same sentence over like ten times just to get the right inflection or just trying to remember your script. It’s awkward as all hell, especially if someone else is in the room with you 😅 cheers Vanessa!

I’m finally getting back into KZbin because of the pure fun in creating! And I loved the part from the interview where “it’s all about YOU being happy” and not what everyone else things, as well as the “how I do..” vs “how to..”. So many good tips!! Thanks

Thank you for this video! It felt so homey and actionable. Almost like a mini class or workshop. Your break away from KZbin seems so essential to how you approach it now. I’ve been subscribed to you for years got lost in the middle during your coaching era where I didn’t click as much but I am happy to return to any video you post just based on how connected you seem to yourself right now. Also, your note to women on energy was top tier! I’m a mom of littles and wow trying to make a video is exhausting but your tips today feel so doable.

Thanks Vanessa for making this video! Something that I struggle with as a content creator is putting pressure on myself to get my videos done at all costs. After watching this video I have learned that if I am struggling to get a video done I should either take a break and then try again to get it done later that day or another day. I hope creators really take the time to watch and process everything you shared today because you broke it down perfectly! I'm on a KZbin break at the moment but I am looking to transition out of "how to" and do more "How I" Content. I also like that you showed your different filming locations being in the same room but in different spots because that's something I wont to play around with for my future videos as well. What I love most about this is the inside-out focus. Meaning, while you're giving tips based on your personal experiences, you're maintaining the message to the viewer of finding what works best for them based on personal factors, such as comfort and personal skills/knowledge. ❤🙌🏾 It's clear you have a ton of experience on this topic with the wide range of tips provided. I'm interested in the DJI Osmo Pocket for a series that I have where it's more of a casual talking head video. I've been using my iPhone on a mobile device stand, but the problem with this setup is it's not adjustable and it has a tilt, so I have to creatively use folded pieces of paper to get the angle right. It works, but can be frustrating in terms of consistency. The only thing I would need to do with the DJI is figure out how to sync it with my XLR mic. Shouldn't be too hard for me because I love the tech side of being a digital creator. haha

Heyo (: Idk if you already thought about that, but when studying Film & Motion Design in uni, we learned to clap your hands/snap fingers right after starting recording a new take on the camera and microphone (that's what the clapperboard in movie production is for btw). That way you can look at the audio wave of the microphone audio and video audio and see where it spikes, so you can align them. I find it makes syncing audio + video from two different sources super easy! Hope that helps (:

When you mention masking, it reminds me of how much I mask in my day to day life as someone on the spectrum and high level ADHD. Recording and creating content helps me be more true to myself (I like to call it being unhinged because I’m perpetually “hinged” with a filter or persona for my day to day life with everyone I interact with just to be socially accepted). I’ve found being on camera with no one around makes me feel more comfortable to be my outspoken self and people being more receptive about my actual silly self without worries of coming off “rude” or impulsive or being told “You can’t really say that. Why don’t you act like everyone else? Why are you acting so different? We like the old you.” Granted, yes I’m still in a “performance mode” so it isn’t my 100% true self because I’m giving a bit more energy than I normally do but it’s in a way that’s more aligned to my true self and helping me be more outspoken and speak louder and clearer instead of mumbling or speaking too softly or speaking too gravelly lol it feels like being on stage but for people wanting to see my actual personality and what I have to say. So I can still be myself, just more outspoken and louder and dynamic so people can actually see and hear the actual me. Sorry for the tangent, but you seem very relatable and the few videos I’ve seen from you are very helpful and authentic!

This is so real and I truly appreciate the honesty in this particular video. I relate so much to a lot of the things you've mentioned like the stuttering and the low energy the week before my period (which I didn't realize was a thing and now will plan around my cycle!) Can I share an exercise that might help with flubs or messing up words? What I do is challenge myself to film at least one video a month where I just talk without a script and don’t edit anything. I use an outline with bullet points and simply riff. This actually helps a lot because, instead of worrying about, ‘Oh no, I said that wrong,’ or ‘Guess I’ll have to edit that out,’ I focus solely on creating the content. For me, it reduces my anxiety about misspeaking or thinking, ‘Wow, this is going to take forever to edit.’ That's just how I do things. That said, it does help knowing that if I say something REALLY bad, I can always just edit it out. Great video, Coach.

Ok my takeaways: So filming feels easier when its more authentic. I love filming in sections, or as I say sequences. As far as gear, Steven Spielberg shot "E.T." on an Arriflex 35 BL... but that's not why I cried. Your camera is just a pen. What matters is the story you write with it. And I love the energy elements! So important. You are giving yourself to people, so it will be tiring. What I gathered from the video. Filming comfortably isn’t just about the camera-it’s about finding your flow. While everyone thinks being good on camera is about looking polished, the real secret is feeling natural and connecting authentically. It’s less about “performing” and more about showing up as yourself. Connection over perfection. For me, I like to pretend I am talking to ONE PERSON. Like, my protege. One person in mind when I film, or film for others. But ultimately, authenticity isn’t an act. It’s a flow. Thanks so much for the video. Always giving so much value. As you. Keep em coming!
