Awesome! Greg is definitely great and Will Prowse is the guy to go to for solar and LiFePO batteries. I've decided to buy LiFePO modules, a BMS from China and try to build the battery. I know nothing about electrics and am super scared but I'm going to give it a shot. Now we're starting to insulate the van and I'm going crazy trying to figure out which and how many wires to run where so that it's all ready before putting on the wall cladding.
@CallumTash2 жыл бұрын
Ah cool, we’re sure you’ll figure the wires out. You just need to know what appliances you plan to have 👍
@jiri40232 жыл бұрын
@@CallumTash oh yeah, that, calculate the gauge of the wires, the capacity of the battery and solar array, and figure out how many switches, lights and outlets we want and their placement. Hahahaha. A piece of cake. I'm gonna follow Greg's advice about running the wires through conduits, that way I can (theoretically) add/replace any wires.

I know this was your first time and you were sort of learning as you went but I think you should have the batteries over the wheel arch and all the boxes above them on a panel. It just all needs to be neater and out of the way for when you are putting things in the back of the van

Great stuff as usual. Even though I've barely touched my van I've watched so many videos I almost feel like I could do anything, except that is the electrical system. I just can't quite get my head round it. I understand what the parts are and what I need but sizing (if that's the right term) just makes my head hurt.

@@CallumTash Yeah Greg's video helped explain some stuff especially with wiring sizes and breakers I've sorta understood that part but I probably need to go to Will Prose's solar forum as I need to know what size DC to DC charger, MPPT solar controller, etc. which is where a lot of my confusion lies.

@Randaalcz3 жыл бұрын
not sure if anyone already mentioned that - all the cables that have multiple smaller wires twisted into one cable there should be a cable shoe crimped at the end before mounting it to the terminal. Also a tip, if you don't have wire stripper for the size you need, just use a utility knife and go around the cable to cut the isolation without damaging the metal itself. I love the video, good job

Question. The solar controller has a load neg & positive side also. What can be connected to that.? Ex: can a separate 12v fuse box be connected to run things like a fan or to inverter to use microwave during the day without usjjng battery pkwer.?
@CallumTash4 жыл бұрын
We're not using it but I'm aware the load terminal is only compatible to run one small 12 V DC load with low amp consumption. I'm not sure what you mean by the second question... can you run a microwave without using battery power? If so, then no
