I was about to comment on this, I know this is a popular style of editing for vlog videos where you cut the end of a sentence and immediately skip to the next sentence. But for something like this its INCREDIBLY jarring and annoying, like almost any time anybody stops talking it immediately cuts to the next time something is either loud or contains talking. I feel like I'm being treated like a tiktok viewer with 0 attention span. I mean come on, those people wouldn't watch a 1 hour video anyway. I really hope he can upload the unedited vod, because holy crap this is borderline unwatchable.

2:25 "cute, tho" the developers (Mihoyo) wanted to make games about cute anime girls (their catch phrase is: text otakos save the world). From their very first game (fly me 2 the moon, featuring Kiana) to gun girls x to Honkai Impact all were about cute anime girls. In fact there is (currently) only one playable male in HI3 and he's only inone specific game mode (that still caused controversy). Genshin Impact was their first game with playable male characters.

3:41 Honkai is like radiation. It can even be used as a power source. In large enough doses it can and usually is fatal. In game woman have a naturally higher resistance/adaptability (hence, all the female soldiers) but even in the case of Valkyries it's use shortens their life expectancy. In people with lower resistance low doses can kill you and turn you into a zombie. At higher doses, if you if can survive, you can be turned into a Honkai monster. At very high dose a 'core' can precipitate in a human creating the aforementioned herrschers.

@@panjipewe That explanation mostly only works if you actually played the game. Force of Chaos is quite vague as it doesn't exactly explain how it affects humans. Some people get further confused since Kiana, or HoV, literally calls herself as the Honkai. So is Honkai a Force of Chaos or an entity? You don't need to answer me, I'm past Graduation Trip.

@@225Reaver My guy, the Seele animation has half of it chopped off and it's the emotional half too. If we're talking about animation, cutting that particular part makes no sense whatsoever. An animator had nothing to say about how the characters were animated to emote sadness, distress and despair like that? I dunno... Also with how big the music is for a lot of these, having it just cut apart like that is jarring. Not to mention that even if you do know the animations, they still have a flow to them that when cut, just makes them really disorienting. I'm not asking for blood here, but the editing style appears to match more a mashup video than an edited reaction video. I get it, the full VoD would be too long, but if you don't let it breathe it's gonna come off as painful to sit through.

the animations in hi3 are a combination of CG and hand drawn. they basically hand draw the enviroment and then cg on it and have the studio go over it later and hand draw on the edges and add facial expression lines, etc on the models and apply hand special effects and stuff like smearing for instance, its a big reason why their cg looks so good is because its a cg/hand drawn hybrid

Yeah, Hoyo has always leaned into the fanservice. Target market is target market. But so far, not at the expense of anything, and as good as the storytelling, gameplay and OST have been, it's well worth the trip.

@46:00 Someone in chat explained it as 'Kiana is a glutton' and I'm here to tell you no, she is not. While Kiana does enjoy food a lot and she does eat well more than the average there are a couple of things to keep in mind. Valkyries are fighters so already right there you should expect a higher caloric baseline. But also I'm pretty sure that being Valkyries and using Honkai energy to fight result in their bodies needing more calories on average. And then you have the fact that Kaslanas in general are know to eat a lot which is likely an indication of a faster metabolism and a higher need for calories that the average too. It's a triple threat.

8:32 reburn was a concept animation. So, no Japanese dub or captions and not canon to the story. It's a test bed. "What can an anime look like."

In my opinion, Reburn can still be considered Canon. If you take game events into consideration, Reburn fits pretty perfectly as a delusion sequence of Kiana's during the time HoV had control. Feeling like she has to run from Mei, having power, the gold eyes, taking down the enemy, but realizing in the end what she's doing. "Ich Liebe Dich" also reaffirms this as it is Sirin's magic spell that Cecelia taught her to help handle her emotions.

a little late to comment, but a tl;dr of what the "honkai" is is that its a higher dimensional form of energy basically. it corrupts people and turns them into honkai beasts and when theres a stupid amount of it it condenses into a herrscher core and births a herrscher persona in that core and usually takes over its human host. An easy analogy is that honkai is sort of like semi sentient nuclear radiation. Herrschers are walking nuclear reactors as far as energy levels goes. as far as why the honkai seems to have a purpose or why herrschers get their own personalities theres an unbelievably old higher dimensional alien being that has gone from planet to planet in our solar system resetting civilzation every 50,000 years on presumably all the planets (but only earth, mars and venus are known) for legit billions of years. it is trying to force evolve humanity into a civilization that can co-exist and embrace the honkai and be like it and if humanity fails then it resets time back 50,000 years and tries again. so while most every world in the hoyoverse games (like genshin and HSR are confirmed to be in the same physical universe as HI3) has natural levels of ambient honkai energy, earth in HI3 has been figuratively fire hosed with it by this alien being which is why we have it so bad and get herrschers and stuff. but at its most basic level its just simply a very corruptive higher dimensional form of energy.

Oh one thing i forgot to mention, as far as why exactly the honkai gets stronger as humanity gets stronger. its no joke kind of rooted in some quantum mechanics theory but the tldr of it is that honkai is trying to destroy humanity, but is kind of hoping that humanity wins. Plus a civilizations "footprint" (aka its level of civilization) so to speak in this universe increases the amount of ambient honkai energy needed to keep a world from eroding into a void like dimension. Hi3 is mostly the sentient being controlling the honkai on earth pushing humanity just past its limit but also partly the natural universal law of the honkai universe of the more advance a civilization is, the more honkai energy is needed to counter act that worlds entropy into the void dimension (the sea of quanta, another evangelion reference which in turn is based off some IRL quantum physics theories)

@MrStyles You could try playing this game. Mihoyo made this game incredibly F2P if you are just progressing the story. I think around Chapter 9 or 10, Mihoyo kind of locks you into playing certain characters for story immersion and these characters are capped out in everything, levels and gear with the gear being 90% optimized. Pulling for characters and whatnot is for other content. You would also be time gated for progression because going through story quests require Stamina and the stamina regen is painfully slow so mostly you'll only log on once a day, go through a chapter, and done. It's like an action/visual novel. Chapter 28 and 31-33 are quite long though. But full of action that I think you won't notice time passing by.
