Mike Kummer for the win! I very much like his style. His topics are very well chosen and he always shows interesting ideas/themes. Very educational for an 1200 player like me!

I've read chess books, watched tons of video lessons, but have learned more about decent chess play from Mike Kummer than any other teacher. My rating varies somewhere between 1300-1500.

Some lectures by Mike Kummer are really badly made. I don't mean to sound rude nor do I want to offend mr. Kummer, however he is nowhere close to the level of lecturing many other teachers in the camp present. I think he should make sure his lectures are correct and there are no mistakes in them. 13:40 is a good example. Also, not everyone can learn from a 1650 player. Don't take me wrong, just giving some feedback for future lessons.

come on, he's teaching kids and absolute beginners. I am glad he teaches because in some sense, it's a complete waste to put a 2600+ GM in front of 900'er kids! He get's his point (here: Pawn/Square Weakness in Dragon/Pirc after exchanging Bishops) across... and yes, I like Finegold's snarky remarks also more than Kummer, but that's not the point...

PuzzleSolver It's true. The best way to teach beginners is to work from the ground up, which not everyone can do. Professionals usually make assumptions of knowledge so don't explain things well, or sometimes they don't know how to explain it in a simple way. The most important thing is to explain it in a way so they will remember it and understand it well.
@sauryasircar53268 жыл бұрын
+John Cordisco I agree on that. But really, the teacher should not teach wrong things, as in the other lectures.
@sauryasircar53268 жыл бұрын
+John Cordisco And he didn't even say how to refute 6...Ng4. He says he will teach us to crush the dragon, and yet doesn't teach us why that is a blunder. I'd rather have a rude teacher who does teach well than someone like Mike Kummer who teaches wrong and dogmatic views.

Even beginners should be aware their opponent is not necessarily a numptie!

yup, on 6... Ng4 7. Bb5+ wins for white (7... Bd7 8. Qxg4 +-) i'm a uscf 1500 and even i know about it 😐

6. Be3 1st & then 7. f3 IS in fact the right move order (it's known theory, in fact i play it as White)
