I ordered some hornwort that should be here by Friday, also ordered crinum calamistratum today. I'm battling nitrates in my Oranda tank, but soon to be winning! LoL Thanks for this awesome video. Love the plant rack! In my live plant adventure, I finally found golden pothos and want some planted around the house and not just in the tanks. Plants are taking over my life. LoL

Every time I plant hornwort, it rots at the base. Then I come home and find it floating. What I did to counteract this, was to use fishing line. I loosely attached it to the line and the attach the other end to a lead plant weight. This keeps it from rotting and from floating. It does grow incredibly fast and requires more trimmings.

That's something I haven't heard or tried maybe that will work the next time I get some cause other wise it doesn't grow in my tank floating or planted so maybe that's the trick , thank you for the info.

I planted four stems in my tank and a month later it completely took over. I'm talking like took all the surface space and then spread downwards and took space in the middle of the tank too. My shrimp love hanging out on it but omg it shocked me how fast it grew. been trimming a lot now and it is still everywhere. the good thing is that I now have my second tank planted with a bunch of hornwort but the bad thing is I know one month from now I will no longer have space in either of my 10 gallon tanks. He didnt mention this but they can grow a couple of INCHES each week.

I always just float my hornwort. I had no success planting it in the substrate. It would lose needles and not flouish when planted but is amazing when allowed to just float.

Do we need to use water conditioner to plant a aqua plant in a bowl ?? Or just plain water is fine for now? I got this type of plant and a reddish colour without a substrate planning to plant in a bowl. Bless your aqua studio.

I assume you have the super hard MN water too? I was unable to get guppy grass to survive in the hard water -- would hornwort be better for a floating mass for my guppy fry to hide in?

I started with 2 stems of hornwort and 2 years later I have over 100, now all of a sudden I am seeing a lot of brown stuff at the bottom of the tank and some stems are also turning brown. I did not change anything as far as I know and as for fish, I bought 12 guppies, they all died within a few weeks only 4 or so fry are still alive. Any tips? I am so tempted to just throw everything away but the only thing that is keeping me is the growth I have seen from 2 stems to 100+.

Idk i cant keep my hornwort alive. Like it goes through phases where it blooms really well, and suddenly most of it will die. I trim what I don’t want, but I have livebearers and want a floating plant over the whole top. I didnt realize that theses parts were dying/dead, so its caused a huge ammonia spike and killed all my fish 48hr after the hornwort started dying… It’s within the most well lit room of my apartment, and I supply fertilizer and CO2. I think I’ll just remove it entirely, and just get a couple more amazon swords. I think my 20gal has too much surface turbulence for this species.
