Looks great. Thanks for sharing. I’m a newbie to this so it would help to get more verbal explanation on the steps. A lot of what you do is probably a given for the experienced but some need a little more tutorial. I did get the general gist though. Thank you!

I love that so much!! I like how you really don’t know how it’s gonna look until you scrape. Really nice. Great idea for old pieces that are really beat up and it seems pretty effortless compared to hours of layering and sanding.

I’d love to know the answer to this question also. I’m assuming it’s water but I’d rather not test the theory to find out I was wrong. Such a beautiful piece

You don’t do sanding or priming to your furniture?

Did you let each side dry individually for 24 hours or did you stand it up with the salt on the sides and just dried it once? Will the salt stay on the vertical surface when you stand it up or does it drip off. Also I noticed some dark gray tones under to he paint but the piece is chocolate brown, is the dark gray just from the paint interacting with the salt, please do another one with the camera further back if possible.

We had to let it dry with salt laying on it flat like a table so yes def had to rotate to get that a few times 😅 they grey tones came from the really old wood that had been water damaged. I did this finish on a newer piece and no gray happened at all

@@blacksheephouse ok, thanks so much, really appreciate it. It's beautiful. I just transitioned all my furniture to french country from ultra modern and I got it all on Facebook market, found some beautiful stuff, so now come the hard work. I've been researching the Gustavian style paint so things wouldn't be so stark white. This will be so nice for some of my pieces.

can i do it with my melamine wood?
@blacksheephouse
@blacksheephouse 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure, I think it works so well because it sinks into the wood. Hope that helps and let me know if you try!

Can you explain how the salt turns dark and stains the paint?
@blacksheephouse
@blacksheephouse 4 жыл бұрын
I’m no science person at all, but I the salt gets chipped away and leaves the original wood behind and where it waters down the paint creates some dimensions in the colors you get. I also used an old raw wood piece so could be some of the dirt or tannins in the wood coming out too.

I love it! So after you did the salt scrapping did you reapply more paint or was that the final step? How did you sealed this piece? Thank you thank you as always great video! 🥰
@blacksheephouse
@blacksheephouse 4 жыл бұрын
I’m glad you liked it! It’s a fun finish, I didn’t apply any more paint, but I did use some clear wax to seal it afterwards. Also, side note is that you need a dry environment or the salt never dries, I just did this one on a hot day but since it’s getting cold and wet out you may have to bring inside to dry!

For the life of me I can’t get this salt to discolor the chalk paint
@PamelasEngel
@PamelasEngel 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t think the salt is discoloring the paint I think it’s the natural wood tannins coming out like what happens if you paint with white paint and don’t prime with Shellac primer prior to painting. So if you sand your wood before you paint most likely tannins will come out. I just painted a light colored desk and I had so much tannins coming out even with three coats of primer I had to keep putting primer even over my paint so this would’ve been an awesome technique to do because I had so many issues with it trying to make it perfect.
