So Dave is singing and playing rhythm here, Mary Friedman also plays rhythm as well as the solo on 'Tornado of Souls'. Megadeth is Dave Mustaine. He is the singer, rhythm guitarist and solos too. But since the first album, "Killing is My Business...." back in 1985, Megadeth is a two guitarist band. Dave played more solos on the earlier albums, probably because he wrote all the material and therefore wrote solos to go along with his music. The first lead guitarist to record with Megadeth was Chris Poland. Being a jazz fusion player before entering Metal, he brought a different type of soloing to the band. Marty was the third lead guitarists and was in the band longer (10 years) with more albums with Megadeth than any other leader guitarist, other than Dave. A few songs you can learn as a beginning guitar player are, 'Peace Sells'. It is a popular song with a slower tempo off their second album. ''Angry Again' is another slower song and not too difficult to learn. That song was from a movie soundtrack. I would also suggest 'Mechanix', not only because it sound cool, but you will basically be learning two songs in one. The stripped down version originally written by Dave before joining Metallica and the James Hetfield rewritten version, 'The Four Horsemen'. 'The Four Horsemen' has a middle section not played in 'Mechanix'. Mechanix' is also played at a faster tempo. Both songs are good.

Megadeth wrote the two greatest breakup songs in history. They are: “In My Darkest Hour“ And “Tornado Of Souls”. Both of these songs help me through my divorce- Which, though it was 20 years ago, I still recall very clearly how very hard I was trying to kill myself by drinking myself to death. The beauty of these songs is that when you’re going through the misery phase, you can commiserate with Dave; but then, as time passes, you gradually begin to identify more with the angry, bitter part of the song - and that sets you free. One day, you’ll have one of these on repeat, and you have had enough rotgut vodka to make you feel energised, but not utterly wankered, and you’ll suddenly think, “That’s it. That’s enough; we’ve been broken up for four months - you’re not holding me down anymore.” Then you get up, take a shower, Put on some clean gruds and yer good leather jeans; you shave and throw on your embroidered silk shirt, linen blazer, and motorcycle boots, then lastly your Ray-Ban Clubmasters, and feel an whole new wave of power and strength surge through you as you briefly look into the wind, light a cigarette, and begin the walk to the nearest pub where you know you might meet some chicks. /a 90s Megadeth story

Your video brings back memories for me. I was 19 when I first saw Megadeth in concert back in 97 and after the show I decided I was going to buy myself a Jackson guitar and learn to play, not knowing anything about playing. Been rocking out ever since.

Watching you hear these songs for the 1st, fills me with a sense of envy. I was 19 when this came out, and I wish I could hear this again, for the 1ST time. You asked us for suggestions concerning what to listen to next. Allow me to suggest the last song, on their 2nd album. “My Last Words,” it’s one of Mustaine’s better solos, and myself being a bass player, Dave Ellefson’s performance (bass) is what attached me to this band. The BEST recording of that, on KZbin, is their performance at the Cow Palace … Where Lars Ulrich (drummer Metallica) actually suggested they play THAT song, at THAT performance.

Love seeing people delve more into thrash metal and just metal in general on this site. What's the part you like the most about it so far/where you would want to go next with the genre, out of curiosity? 'Cause I have a couple recommendations in mind, and I could throw 'em at you.

I enjoy just listening to things i wouldn't normally listen to. Also the metal community who have seen my videos have been nice for the most part. Idk where i want to go im kind of leaving that up to the people commenting to point me in the right direction.

Completely fair! When the metal community isn't being weirdly elitist, they're pretty cool. For adjacent bands to Metallica and Megadeth, I can recommend Anthrax, Pantera and Slayer. Songs off of the albums Among the Living, Vulgar Display of Power and Reign In Blood respectively would all be good choices. For stuff that's a little further into the intense aspects, I can say that Exodus, Sepultura and Death are all great bands. Specifically the album Symbolic from Death has stood out to me for amazing songwriting, and I can very much advocate listening to both Crystal Mountain and Symbolic (the title track) from that album.@@RQG-YT

Great song to practice both alternate picking and downpicking. I envy you getting to hear this for the first time. Anyways, Dave Mustaine is the front man, he sings and back in this era pretty much wrote all the songs himself exclusively. Nick Menza is the tight drummer you hear (RIP), David Ellefson on bass. One of the most legendary guitarists of all time plays that solo, Marty Friedman. The entire album is godtier. The incredibly tight, precise, and face melting riffage is Dave's best work, and most of the solos are Marty. Though Dave plays some banger solos on the album too. Highly recommend reacting to the whole album, because 1) it's one of, if not THE best metal album of all time, and 2) people love seeing Rust in Peace reactions on YT. Great for content!

To fully appreciate the genius of Marty you have to listen to Cacophony, a band he founded together with Jason Becker, the "Speed Metal Symphony" and of course the Megadeth albums with him. He gives a very special insight into his skills on his solo albums. Here I would particularly like to recommend the "Introduction" album. This is an instrumental album with a predominantly acoustic parts. What is offered here is one of the best things you can play on a guitar. Any guitar. Period!! I can recommend this album to any guitarist who wants to broaden their horizons and improve their technical skills. An absolute masterpiece!

I wouldn’t call Dave ‘theatrical’. That’s more like Ronnie James Dio, or maybe Bruce Dickinson. Dave sings with a lot of actual feeling. There’s real anger behind some of those snarls. That’s why I love him.

Marty Friedman - Melodic Control, helped me a lot to understand my own thought process while noodling back in the day. I would noodle something that sounded bitchin. but to replicate it consistently and variably, I needed to know why it sounded bitchin in the first place. yes there are chromatic movements.... but theres also bends and trems. There are choices to be made. you can replicate someone to a T. or you can hold something or sweep something with just a touch of flourish. Marty is an original. people say "marty is just doing this or doing that" . those people arent Marty. but they wish they were.

Marty Friedman played most of the solos on this album, but Dave also laid some killers down… this was Marty though… it’s considered the best metal solo of all time by a lot of people. Technical and melodic… the modality is also brilliant. People are gonna tell you to listen to Holy Wars or Lucretia, both great songs from this album, but a really underrated gem is Five Magics… great riffs, solos and bass, it also has a 5/4 signature in parts. Edit: don’t start by playing Megadeth… learn some simpler stuff first like AC/DC or some easier Metallica songs… Seek and Destroy is a good one to learn.

Both have RIFFS and really cool melodies, Heathen also has incredible solos (not Friedman level though, he is monster of soloing). Songs you might like are Artillery - Bombfood (1990 album version) and Heathen - Timeless Cell of Prophecy (1991 album version)
