You may use the trick of placing a coffee filter at the bottom. It gives stability to the soil and holds the dirt inside when watering. Learn this trick and now I always use these with all pot sizes. Love your style; seems with such harmony.

Very good video and I loved all the variations although I was screaming at the screen when I saw you trying to pot those herbs that were in the celo packages the reason they are packaged with the roots in soil is to prolong the life of the herbs so until you use them, but they have been sprayed with something and they will definitely never ever grow no matter what you do. Even the ones that you purchased in the pots unless you bought them from the plant section of the grocery store they are just a larger variation of the celo pkg and are just meant to live a little longer until you use them but again they have been sprayed to prevent the roots from growing even when transplanted, I suspect they were also purchased from the produce section of the store which anything that is purchased from the produce section even those heads of lettuce with the little balls of roots and coco coir is just meant to keep the produce fresh until you use it and is never meant to be repotted so that you can continue growing it, like most gardeners mistakenly think. They do something to the roots whether it’s some sort of radiation treatment or what I don’t know but don’t waste your time with those. In fact you’d be better off starting from seeds then using any of those! Always buy plants from the plant section of the grocery store never the produce section and if unsure look for cut flowers and ask the person doing the wrapping but if in doubt don’t bother you’ve just wasted however cheap they appear to be, put that money in and get from a proper nursery but better yet try growing from seeds. One other tip I can add is never ever take indoor plants outside and then bring them back inside because you will be asking for trouble and a possible infestation!! Little bugs are attracted to herbs and you could unknowingly bring in aphids or other creepy crawlers and not be aware until much much later once an infestation had developed. Also one other thing to note is be sure your potting soil is sterilized not just organic and that it has no holes in it at all, if it has holes it’s lost it’s possible sterilization and you should treat with boiling water before planting to prevent any possible aphids from appearing after the fact because they could still be present in the form of eggs. Most beginning gardeners don’t know about this sort of thing and won’t until they have an infestation that is ridiculously hard to control and most end up tossing out all their plants because they don’t know what to do at that point. Another thing to do is to sprinkle the top of your soil with diatomaceous soil, because any creepy crawly that eats it will die. So it will help if something does come in on your plants it won’t spread to others and cause a much larger issue. Hope that helps someone. Happy growing! Oh one other thing buy some gloves to prevent that beautiful manicure from getting all dingy and brown from playing in the soil. Be sure to buy the ones that won’t get wet the minute you put your hands in moistened soil, so not the cutesy pretty ones the all over plastic style is much better and will protect your beautiful hands and nails!!🙏🏻🥰🇨🇦

@@JulieKhuu one other thing I should have mentioned is to switch from soil gardening completely and grow your veggies in water instead! You can grow all kinds of veggies in nutrient rich water and there is no mess or dealing with bags of soil and you can do it extremely cheaply with likely water holding containers that you have around the house! In fact I began with 4litre plastic bottle because I had lots of them but you can use all sorts and you can use the aerogarden plant food to begin with or purchase General Hydroponics nutrients from Amazon. There are loads of videos on KZbin on how to do it but the best ones I’ve seen are by Mike Vanduzee he is amazing at showing you how to germinate your seeds to growing them to seedlings in self watering containers and then transplanting them to larger containers to grow them from microgreens to full size plants. You can grow every kind of lettuce you can think of or leafy green, cucumbers, sweet peppers so many things using hydroponics and growing indoors. Oh the other thing you need are grow lights I use full spectrum warm white T5 4’ length the brand I like is Monios because they come with everything you need to hang them and they will allow you to connect them to one another up to 4 of them at a time with just one switch to have to turn on which makes it super convenient and they are LED lights so super light to install even a little old lady can do it. (Speaking of myself) lol! Here’s the link to get you started if you are interested….it’s Mike Vanduzee Keep on growin’

Not trying to throw shade, but I was always taught that grocery store herb plants don't survive bc it's actually multiple plants in one and they die because they are essentially fighting for the nutrients. It is true because when I separated my grocery store basil, I literally had over 20 individual basil plants. I replanted half and put the other half in water. Some didn't make it because they were already done for, but I ended up with 5 healthy & very fast growing basil plants.

Nice job, so great to grow your own herbs! I would have skipped the plastic pots because of phlatalates and just put them in the cute metal pails. Plastics also contain petroleum. Glad you used organic soil! The fiddleleaf fig cuts that you made looks great!!! Do you compost?

How long will they last? Can you transition them to grow outdoors?
@JulieKhuu
@JulieKhuu 4 жыл бұрын
They last as long as you care for them Jasmine. Mint, basil, and rosemary herbs are tougher than the rest, so they may survive the transition. But in my experience, if the plants are thriving where they are situated, it’s best not to move them.

I have had a lot of success with those supermarket herbs, but some like the soft leaf basil is not meant to live for long and, cannot live outside. If it were as easy as plonking them in any old pot and giving them a bit of water it would not be worthwhile for the supermarket, give them some fertilizer and love, I've had the most success with, chives, plant fertilise once it starts to grow, chop it halfway down the leaves with a pair of scissors ✂️, the following year it will have established itself and be a very successful plant.
