This was so helpful!! I have found that I get lost as almost everyone talks about yarn as if you have been a knitter. I am not, but I love weaving. Thank you, Violet. I am considering getting a 15” Cricket loom and have been watching many videos on KZbin. I am a voracious knitter and spinner so weaving is the next step for me. I really appreciate your knowledge and teaching style more than others I have seen. I feel fairly confident in moving forward with this thanks to your videos. Again, thank you. Great info! Potential new weaver here (I like to pre-research before diving in) and yours was a great intro on the qualities to look for in yarn. It makes sense to use something with some stretch at the start before moving to the cottons.

Thanks for your brilliant videos which I have found so helpful and enjoyable. I am just learning to weave at home (UK) on a little rigid heddle loom my husband made me. I am trying to do hounds tooth pattern on some extremely fine wool yarn and the pattern just comes out as stripes! I’ve warped it 2/2 (red & white) and am trying 2/2 weft - I have even tried 4/4 rows of weft but no pattern! I wonder if the thread is just tooooo (!) fine? (Am waiting for some DK acrylic to arrive but am impatient!). I’d be grateful for some advice please if you have the time. Thank you.

Another wonderful video. Thank you! Is there a "formula" of sorts to consider when pairing warp threads and weft threads? In other words, can a warp thread be too thick or rigid for a thinner weft thread? I hope this makes sense. Thank you again for your wonderful, easy to understand videos.

Hi, I've just found your channel, looking for information on rigid heddle weaving. I'm a knitter with a stash that needs busting. My loom has an 8 dent heddle and I heard you say you use sock yarn with it. Do you double "sley"? If not, is the weave too loose? I'd like not to spend money on a new heddle for my loom. The 24inch heddles for kromski looms are $65. I'm trying to make gifts and useful items by using what I have. Thanks. I enjoy your videos. Marlana

love ALL your tutorials - very helpful, thank you! Question - the one yarn you showed, looked like sock yarn perhaps, I saw the tag, looked like it said Richard DeVeries??? I looked at his website - sooo very pretty yarns, but I couldn't tell what would be the best for weaving, like what name of the yarn, are they all pretty much the same texture and weight?? Thanks for your help as always! :-)

The Rhichard Devrieze yarns are GORGEOUS! He is a master dyer from Ontario, Canada. I stock his yarns in my shop. Any of his yarns would work for weaving. The fingering weight ones work nicely with an 8 dent or 10 dent heddle. You could use the worsted weight with an 8 dent heddle too. Try his Peppino-it's 100% merino yarn. @@thevioletunicornweaving Hi - Gosh, thanks soo much, AGAIN, for the great info - I know I have tons of dumb questions, so I apologize! But I will check out the yarn, it looks so beautiful, and all the different shades! I also noticed in your tutorial on the different yarns, you had a one called Impeccable.. I tried that in the blue shade and I don't know, I had kinda a hard time with it... probably just me as it was thicker as opposed to the "Shawl in a Ball" that you used in your warping and weaving video, which I did try also. That came out pretty good for my first attempt except I guess I didn't have it tied tight enough as some of the threads were very loose and I had to kind of hold them and tighten at the back bar so I could beat it.. that's ok - that's how you learn, right - with YOUR help of course! Anxiously awaiting your next series of videos! Thanks again... :-)

Great video! Youve really made me feel less anxious about pickinf the wrong yarn so thank you! I was wondering if you need to match the weight? If you're using sock or dk do you have to stick to that for the entire project? For example can I use a sock weight for the main structure and bulky for the weave? Thanks! ❤️

Hi there! I’m glad you find my videos useful! For weaving, I find that it easily allows you to combine various sizes and types of yarn easily! I often warp in one weight and weave in another. 🦄☺️

how do you know how many skeins you will need for a shawl or a simple scarf?

Having issues with weaving dishtowels on my Ashford 32 inch RHL. The selvedges are not as clean a weave as the rest of the cloth. They look like I have missed some of the warp but they were not "missed" just not as compacted as they should have been. What could cause that? The edges are not pulled in or rolled, but you can see the warp instead of the weft.

Hi there! I’m sorry to hear you are having dish towel issues! Cotton can be tricky to work with. It’s crucial to make sure that your tension is good and even when you warp-it’s the edges that will show it the most if they are not under the same tension as the inner part. I suspect that may be the issue. Once you wash the dish towel it may tighten up a little bit-the shrinkage can be forgiving! I hope that helps!
