@@builder01011 Hi Micheal - well its sometimes a little bit repetative. I have to watch all the film I take of the painting and a lot of the time its the same small changes over and over. So I tend to focus more on the stages that will improve a painting and will help anyone trying to learn. I also have a large collection of tutorials that cover every detail at some point. Taken as a whole I hope my shorter videos make the process more enjoyable and less of a chore to watch. Maybe I'll post a raw and uncut video now and then so folks can see just how long it takes me to paint a scene. - Have a great weekend - Paul 😃😃😍😍😍😍😎😎

Great tutorial Paul! Have you, or have you ever considered a tutorial on Bob's original "Golden Glow"? I always liked that one and I think he only used 4 or 5 colors. Might be a good one for beginners. Cheers!

Paul, Thank you for responding. Very refreshing and your time is appreciated. There are a few reasons I asked for full-length videos. I should have listed them for you, and I apologize that I did not take that time. My wife and I find the whole process enjoyable and slightly cathartic. You are easy to listen to and more is not a bad thing at all. Beginners like my wife and I need about 2 hours to complete a tutorial like yours; therefore, a full length video means we rewind 50 times instead of 100. As to my other comment I am very sorry. I was in a mood and I think I, to a degree, took it out on you. You are an amazing artist and I have much respect for you. Please accept my sincere apology. I am going to start on your bridge painting tonight. Thank you Mr. Ranson. Michael.

Hi Michael - no offence taken we all have days like that. I did smile when I told Mrs Painter Person about your idea of a blow by blow painting video. You see we were trained ( and drilled ! ) in the art of speed painting like Bob. So a Bob Ross classic takes about 28 mins! I'm guessing thats not quite what you want but I hope you see the funny side of it. So, I'll look at doing a live style paint along ( I did one a while back ). I'll paint showing all the nitty gritty wins and fails and the odd pickle too! Good luck with the bridge painting. That is one to paint a savour over a day or two. Maybe make it a painting ow two halves so you bridge joins your wifes. Have fun 😃😎
@builder010118 ай бұрын
We often wait a day for highlights. Sometimes, revisit a painting over several days. As you suggest Bob Ross is the standard. Sure would have loved to see some 2 hour works by the master. What he could have done! Hello to the Mrs. Painter Person. Feels good to know our conversation added enjoyable conversation on the other side of the Pond for the two of you. I very much look forward to following you and creating or recreating art with you.

Howdy Paul! First off, your version of it is absolutely gorgeous! Your delicate touch and relaxed pace are a joy to watch and your instruction is top shelf, not to mention your outstanding production. Bravo sir! 😃 Secondly, you totally inspired me to give this one a shot and, I have to say, it didn't turn out too bad at all! I was kinda on the fence about it until an old acquaintance drove up as I was painting outside and, after a bit of catching up, said, "WOW! YOU painted this? It looks so realistic!" It helped me realize a few things: One, that beautiful art is subjective and I need to lighten up on myself! The piece I was looking at with my eyes saw all the little boo-boos that I had managed to either fix or cover up or could have done better on blah blah blah! LOL HE, on the other hand, saw none of that. His friend he was with actually wants to buy some of my work now and it's not a thing with making some money because of it that made me happy. It was that his friend liked it enough to want to pay money for it! THAT is what made my heart sing! 🥰 Secondly, it was a great lesson for me in lightening my somewhat heavy hand, getting my feet wet with brush blending as opposed to mixing literally everything with the knife. I hadn't tried that yet and I must say that it was fun and quite a learning experience! I totally see the value of it now and it has lost it's scariness for me. I'll be doing that a LOT more now! I still probably used more paint than what it appears you do but not nearly as much as I had been so that was awesome as well! Lastly, it was a nice benchmark that told me that I am actually getting better even though I don't necessarily think I am. I guess I'm still my own worst critic and that's a work in progress...probably will be for awhile but that's okay. I think Bob said something to the effect of, "if you're ever totally satisfied with what you're doing, that's when you stop trying to get better" or something like that! LOL Sorry for the "War & Peace" length post but just wanted to express my appreciation and gratitude for your skill and willingness to share that with us all! I'll sincerely try to use a bit more brevity in my next comment but can't promise ya that! LOL Many blessings Paul and thanks again! Your friend in painting Alan 😄
@PaulRansonArt Жыл бұрын
Hey Alan - thank you ... Sorry that was too breif a response ( my silly humour again ) Its quite a rush to sell your first work. Its also a boost to the ego that someone is willing to part with hard earned cash for something little'o you created. So, gladly accept their money and make their day. As for the slips and fixes, they don't need to know. They don't care either. They just love the painting so dont spoil it for them by pointing out all the things you dont like. If you do It places the buyer in an awkward position. They may feel that they should agree with you. But then worry that they are offending you. In the end you or they talk themselves out of the whole idea of it being a painting they love and want to buy. How do I know this? Because I'm my worst critic too. I just learned to keep my gob shut when someone pays me a compliment 😁 I hope you never paint the perfect painting. Then you'll always have to paint another one to improve on the last. Happy Painting Alan 😎

16/01/24. This is a wonderful painting, your tutorials are very easy to follow. I just have one issue in the fact I can’t seem to get my background sky to look like yours. My oils, Bob Ross’, don’t spread very well. Am I putting them on too thickly or not using enough magic white? Keep up your fantastic work
@PaulRansonArt Жыл бұрын
There are so many variables that its hard to give an exact answer. Obviously the thicker the paint the harder it is to blend. My first though is - have you checked how well your canvas is primed? Sadly, many canvases are poorly primed for wet on wet oil painting. They act like a sponge and suck out the oil from the liquid white. This makes blending colour almost impossible. You can test you canvas by dabbing a little liquid white on the edge and leaving it for 30 mins. If its gone chalky the priming isn't good enough. I tend to give all my canvases a coat of light grey gesso just to be sure. I also use my paper DIY 'canvases' most of the time to save on storage space and costs. Give this a try and hopefully your next paintings will be a lot easier. - Kind wishes - Paul 😎

Hi Stepnanie- its called Reynolds Freezer paper. I dropped a link in the description below the video. Its way cheaper than buying artist disposable palettes and made from exactly the same plastic coated paper. It comes on a roll so cut off what you need. What about painting for advanced or intermediate painters
@PaulRansonArt8 ай бұрын
Hi Micheal - I have quite a few different styles of painting on the channel apart from classic Bob Ross paintings. I've recently completed a palette knife painting, dry brushing oils, and skyscapes Plus a floral and wildlife. Each has an element or technique to master that leads on to a more advanced painting style. For top techniques I like to watch Floran Furgas, Cesar Santos or Andrew Tichler. Each has a channel so have a watch. Hope this helps - Paul 😃😎
