I am a 45 year old man who has no formal training in painting, I just decided to try to paint one day after watching Bob Ross for the hundredth time. I did the Blue Moon painting of his twice and it wasn't coming out the way I wanted, until I found your video. I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your videos are informative, slow enough to follow, and very helpful. I finished my painting last night after following along with your video and it brought tears of joy to my eyes because of the end result. You are absolutely amazing. Thank you for brightening up my dark and dreary world.

Hi Jeff - Wow thanks for sharing a little of your story. I'm blown away by your comments and delighted to have helped you. For me, art has always been a happy place if a little frustrating at times. So your journey is a well trodden path. You'll see my footprints right there too. I hope to spead a little more light and joy in the world in 2023. So stay healthy and enjoy your art - Paul 😎

Thank you so much for what you do. You make the world a brighter place. That's not a thing that can be said very much in the modern world. Your video helped me immensely. I look forward to seeing some more of them, it just happened to be the one I found first. Thank you once again for your help. I really do appreciate it

Fabulous tips on blurry moon and those dreamy clouds! I'm sure I can apply the same principles to my acrylics. Paul, you're an incredible teacher! 🥰🥰🥰

Aww, thank you 🤗. I'd love to see your version of this in acrylics. You'll need to work quite quickly to get the subtle blend of colours. Check out Atelier Interactive Acrylics sometime. They produce re-wettable / re-workable acrylics using an unlocking solution. I have some but haven't had any playtime to give them a try. Happy Painting Cheryl 🤓

Love this painting I'm going to have a go at doing this hope it turns out OK Great video. Do you put any medium in your paints
@PaulRansonArt
@PaulRansonArt 9 ай бұрын
Hi Kim, yes a nice seascape with just a few colors are some of my favourites. I only add medium ( usually linseed ) when I use a liner brush. All the others are stiff bristle brushes so cope well with all but the driest of paints. If you use a drop of thinners to thin your paint take case as it can split and react with the liquid clear - like a detergent. If it starts to react there's not much you can do to stop it other than to try and wipe it off . Happy seascape painting - Paul 😃😍😎

Does it have to be over a black canvas to create the magic look? I have just started a new project, ocean and blue sky, when it is dry, can I add the liquid clear and then do some blending of clouds? Thanx again for an amazing picture ...
@PaulRansonArt
@PaulRansonArt 5 ай бұрын
Great question! You can absolutely add liquid clear after your ocean and sky are dry. Just remember they are dry so they wont move or blend. But you can add a second layer of clouds that you can blend. It’s all about experimenting with techniques to achieve that magical look! This painting works particularly well over a black acrylic canvas = instant atmospher. But try it on a white / grey canvas too. It gives a completely different feel to the scene. Happy Painting - Paul 😃😎

Paul I am a beginner using water mixable oils. So what do I use in place of liquid clear. What about brushes?
@PaulRansonArt
@PaulRansonArt 5 ай бұрын
Hi Vickie - I use water mixable Linseed oil. The brushes are as I suggested last time - synthetic brushes work best with this paint- Paul 😃😎

I've been painting ross style for 3yrs now . I currently use linseed oil for base on black canvases. Is liquid clear any different at all plz?
@PaulRansonArt
@PaulRansonArt 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Stevie thank you for your question. I've also used linseed on black canvases and the difference is mainly the thickness of Liquid Clear makes blending a little easier. However if you're used to linseed oil then stick with it. I used water mixable oils and linseed as well and find I can still paint wet on wet Bob Ross style paintings. Hope this helps - Paul 🎨

Linseed will color after awhile.. it's also too fat for a base coat...it's ok but not for paintings to be sold and or archival...

Why don’t you use a bigger brush when applying to large canvass
@PaulRansonArt
@PaulRansonArt 5 ай бұрын
That's a great question! I like to use different brush sizes to achieve various textures and effects, but I’ll definitely consider using a bigger brush for larger canvases in the future! - Paul 😃😎
