Domestic appliances work in the same way. Except that they do not have a main on switch (domestic HVAC units do) and battery.

Is the DC power supplies and control PCB's universal units at least under the same brand name? I'd love to see any brand using something very universal like Arduino or Raspberry Pi just to make technicians life a bit easier.

The power supplies are almost always either off the shelf products or custom variants made to a spec

Books outdate themselves pretty quickly unless you want electronics basics. I highly suggest youtu e for the best explanations.
