I know I’m super late discovering this video but I thought I’d let you know anyways that I liked it! I really appreciate you teaching ways to adapt to the poses, only thing I missed was an explanation on how to place your hands and arms so you don’t put so much weight on your wrists during poses like tabletop, otherwise great class!

Hey Jo! Calorie burn in an exercise is unique to each practitioner. But as a yoga teacher and personal trainer, I have worked with many weight loss clients who are interested in burning calories. What I typically recommend is focusing on consistency and variety, as opposed to caloric burn. Many activities like yoga, martial arts, and strength training focus on building muscle and increasing range of motion - which benefit weight loss in ways other than just a calorie burn. And while strength-based exercise may not burn as many calories in the moment as, say running, the muscle tone will increase metabolic processes in the body overall. So, long story short, we need all of it. Try for cardio a couple times a week + strength based exercise a couple times a week + mind-body practices like yoga and meditation, and you will have a program set up for success :)
