I am grateful to Claudia for speaking out,I always felt that the doctors didn't care at all,but now I see things differently.we have been pointing fingers at the wrong people here,it's not the medical doctors who are at fault,it's our government.

@SamanthaSmith-m8u Absolutely, Samantha. It's crucial to redirect our focus toward the policymakers who shape the system. Banding together as a group to demand accountability and better policies is the way forward. Grateful for Claudia shedding light on this-it’s opened many eyes!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and empathy-it’s clear how deeply you care about patient experiences. This episode sheds light on a side of healthcare that often goes unnoticed: the immense challenges doctors face behind the scenes. Dr. Claudia Mendonça's story isn’t about excusing failings in patient care but about showing how the system’s cracks can impact everyone-patients and medical professionals alike. Doctors, like nurses, often endure relentless pressures: from exhausting shifts to resource shortages and even toxic workplace hierarchies. Through these struggles, many still do their best to provide care, often at great personal cost.

I sympathise with the doctors and nurses who have studied over many years to acquire their qualification and have to work in such squallor conditions. The upkeep of the hospitals falls squarely on the management of the hospitals. In many cases in South Africa the CEO is a cadre deployment who has no qualifications to run a hospital. Funds are allocated but there is no proof of how the money is used. It's not the fault of the doctors but the person or people employed to run the hospital. It's always the patient who suffers under these circumstances. Government doesn't care about the day to day running of the hospital. Politicians only show concern when something hits the headlines then they make an appearence to defend their side. Doctors and nurses in the public sector work under horrendous circumstances I have learnt that being a doctor is not a glamorous job not in the public sector anyway.

This is precisely right, the patients are the ones that suffer the most and policy makers are too blame.

Go to Addington hospital and see how the security treat the patients, investigate .go to addington hospital and see how the staff treat a patient.go to king george , you will be in tears .ive cried seeing patients being shouted at,as sick as they were.ive seen nurses laugh as they call in security to kick a patient out, pulling a sick patient and pushing him like he was filth.

With nurses it is a whole different story,I've seen nurses swearing ,treating patients like filth.yes there may be good but I tell you,it must be a handle full.fir me most patients die not from they sickness but from being I'll treated by the very same nurses at the government hospitals.

I'm so sorry to hear about your experiences. It's heartbreaking when anyone feels mistreated, especially in a place of care. While there are certainly challenges in the system, many nurses work tirelessly under difficult conditions. It's important to address and hold accountable those who fail patients while also supporting the good ones trying to make a difference.
