Wow! This has to be one of your best videos yet! How informative! I had heard 2102 was getting new piston rings but didn't know it was still running on an old set that had been in there for many years. I thought maybe they wore out the rings just last year with 2102 working pretty hard. Problems with leaking piston rings on this locomotive are similar to the same problem with an automotive engine but everything's on a much larger scale. 2102 performed amazingly well last year even without the new rings. I can only imagine how it will do this year. It always impresses me that people are still around that understand the technology of these old locomotives and know how to work on them.

Its nice to see some young'uns getting the torch passed down to them, they will learn skills that have been passed down for a couple hundred years, not like today's "throwaway" machinery. Some RR museums have operational steamers over a hundred years old, thanks to the skills passed down from one generation to the next. And hopefully they will continue to steam along with all the safety requirements set in place by the FRA. Ive heard that Amtrak's newest Acela trains are much too modern for the infrastructure they use, its a shame they wasted that money on equipment wihout upgrading the track structure first. Hows the air quality in Northeast Pennsylvania? Is it as bad as NYC? From watching the news on TV, it looks worse than the smog in Los Angeles. Once again, another outstanding video! 👍👍👍👍🚂🚂🚂🚂❗❗
@1940limited Жыл бұрын
The smoke problem in NE PA cleared up in about 2 days. Things are fine now. As far as Amtrak, it's government, so what else can you expect? Steam Locomotive technology has been passed along for generations. I'm thankful so many people keep these locomotives running.
@JamieMakin Жыл бұрын
Things were really bad here with the smoke on Tuesday and Wednesday. It got a lot worse on the drive home after I filmed at the steamshop Wednesday. Fortunately by late Thursday most of it had cleared out, and we're having a lovely weekend now. I am glad to see some younger folks working in the steam shop and learning to care for these old machines.
