Your father is so polite and sweet he thinks you all the time. I know you have to answer the same questions over and over again but please try to do so sweetly or at least more politely than you currently are is it really that big of a deal to say the same words over and over honestly I don't understand how people can be short tempered with someone in this situation and yes I have been through it not living in my household but still you just remember how fortunate you are to still have them and better yet remember that you may very well wind up in the same position someday and believe me although Alzheimer's patients may not have much memory they certainly do know when someone is speaking in an agitated and angry voice or a kind and loving voice. Just remember what goes around comes around, do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Mark comes across as very impatient and gruff with dad. Dan is tolerant, communicates and explains things (multiple times) gently and in a caring manner to help dad feel more at ease and involved. I'm positive it's a hard thing to do and an extremely hard job to undertake. I commend Dan and Mark for stepping up and taking care their dad who raised and supported them growing up. Loving caring families eventually take on this role. It's hard but that's what you do for the ones you love that played this same role with you. God bless Danielle for participating and accepting this fact of life, welcoming dad into their home, being a significant "other" to dad and THE significant loving spouse of Dan.

It is so hard at times. My mother took care of her mom with Alzheimer’s for years and I had so much patience with my Grandmother and I found myself constantly telling my mom to not get so agitated with things she’d do or say. And oh boy when my mom came down with it I found myself doing to her what I had defended her from doing to my grandmother. I had to get myself in check real fast because that was my mom.

Taking care of someone with Alzheimer's, or dementia isn't 1/10 of what you see. There are good days and terrible days. You have all your own humanly struggles, with the addition of taking care of someone who has no idea what's going on and day in and day out "can" become a bother; it's normal with any of us. You see small clips... I enjoy the videos and Dan seems like a great guy, but that doesn't mean he doesn't experience the full range of emotions.

You cannot change a persons personality to cope with this situation. I admire you both . Dad is pure class. I can but wish I would be half as decent person in my old age, and with dementia too. And real good of you for caring for him so patiently. Watching my parents struggle with granny's dementia, I know how hard can it be for children to adapt to a new reality.

I would bet that most family caregivers would insist their dementia parent stay in the care while they made a 5 minute survey of the rental property..It is Dan's gig to do the video taping...Mark had work to do to assess his rental property.

Hi Dan I watch your videos all the time and love the way you and your wife take care of your father. I was a caregiver for both my dad and mom. I miss them so much. It is a lot of work but it is so worth it because when he’s gone you will miss him. I know I will miss your videos of your dad ! It make me sad to see Mark have no patience with your dad. He need to learn to have more patience with him. Especially your dad having dementia now. My dad had emphysema and my mother had Alzheimer’s. It was hard but I would do it all over again. Thank you Dan for sharing your dad with us.
