Blocking the bridge totally works to get your float very close. If your changing gauge and tuning it's still going to require some spring adjustments though at the end. Either way it's really just about balancing the spring tension one way or another.

I did the same with my new Quadra guitar today, but set it up for a different tuning which Andreas is known for: Bb standard. I used crazy thick GHS Zakk Wylde strings (70/52/36/18/14/11) and now I have that dark Bb growl very tight and massive. What a fantastic guitar, Floyd 1000 is very good and the 81 sounds incredible!

Glad I found this video I grew up on all the greats of Heavy Metal and the many subgenres as you have. When I first saw the custome Quadra album cover guitar watch the solitary EMG 81 PICKUP. I knew it was gonna be a killer 🪓 I've notice in recent years it's been almost considered cool to dis EMG 81 AND 85 set or solitary EMG 81. I finally got my dream guitar mid last year. It's Schecter preloaded with EMG 81 and 85 pickups..absolutely love it. The shape and beauty of Stratocaster, tuneomatic/set bridge, satin finish. Some folks say hey thats cool because the ways its set up you vsn easily put other "better" active pickups in there. Nope, NEVER going play anything but the EMG 81 and 85 set. It makes me happy knowing that the musicians I grew up with are sticking with tried and true formula.

Pro tip, when installing the cover screws turn anti-clockwise with a screwdriver until you feel it drop before turning clockwise. This aligns the thread with the one already in the wood which prevents cutting new threads and eventually stripping the hole.

@RobArnoldWorld Жыл бұрын
Thanks Jake! They're just "different". That's the best comparison I can make honestly. The Jacksons are well made and play great, like the ESP stuff, but I can tell they're just a little different in the way they feel and respond. Not in a good way or a bad way, but just in a way you'd expect I guess, with them being different brands. It's all great stuff for sure though!

Another nice tuning video Rob. Two things I'd like to ask and that Is did you check the batter life and does it really matter if you cut the ball of the end of the strings or can you just leave the ball on the end of the string and let it sit in the sable of the bridge.
@RobArnoldWorld Жыл бұрын
Thanks Darren! I did not check the battery, as the guitar is new, and I figure it's good to go for awhile! I always cut the ball end off, but some guys leave them on and string it up backwards, so that the ball end is up at the headstock. To each their own!

When the outer springs are angled, the middle spring isn't really doing as much as it could (and sometimes nothing at all!)
@RobArnoldWorld Жыл бұрын
Interesting!
@ronsin9490 Жыл бұрын
Middle is under less tension being straight would be the reason. Typically better to go straight and add or remove springs as you drop tuning and increase gauge size. 2 springs will do the trick most of the time on light gauges and standard, Eb and drop D.
@RyRyTheBassGuy Жыл бұрын
@@ronsin9490 I understand the why. Always funny when the circumstances line up and you can easily pull the middle spring out with your fingers.
@ronsin9490 Жыл бұрын
Yeah for sure dude. I didn’t mean to sound pretentious with my comment, was just kind of piggy backing off your comment after Rob said “interesting” to add a bit of clarity. You’re bang on bro. I just dropped my LTD ML to D standard with regular slinkies and I had to put this all into practical use during the setup. I had 2 springs in angled and standard tuning with slinky hybrid 9’s. Jumping to 3 springs with even placement made my setup about as seemless as you’d hope on a gauge and tuning change. Not a dramatic change albeit. But always cool to see how people go about the process. Love the floating bridges and I’ve got 7 of them so I definitely sympathize with the pains of the process and appreciate the cool ideas tricks and comments people share over the years.
@RobArnoldWorld Жыл бұрын
I know what you mean about being able to sometimes just lift that middle spring out. But I guess I feel it must still have some effect on the tension when you dive the bar down towards the strings. Lately I've been experimenting with 3 springs in the V shape, vs. 4 springs all straight, just to see what kind of difference it makes on the overall "feel" of the bridge. I personally like when a trem is super spongy, and easy to wham in either direction. But so far my results remain inconclusive. @@RyRyTheBassGuy

Hey, Rob. SICK GUITAR, dude. I have always been a huge fan of Jackson guitars. You were saying you don't know the difference between the Original Floyd's versus FR1000'S. They are basically the same thing!!! Just think of the FR1000 as a slightly lower profile version. The originals are made in Germany, while the FR1000 are made in Korea. You really shouldn't have ANY tuning issues from the 1000.
@RobArnoldWorld11 ай бұрын
Thanks man! So I think that I've found that it's the FR1500 series that I'm not a big fan of, only because of the trem bar attachment design. I don't like that you have to adjust its tightness or spinnability, with an allen wrench. I prefer the screw on design that I'm used to. I'm guessing that might be the only difference between it and the FR1000? I'm not sure!

I have all the respect in the world for guitarist who use Floyd Rose Tremelo setups. They're amazing works of art. Many of the greatest guitarist to ever walk the earth have used them. Anyway i just wanted to add to my previous comment. In concurring with you say that Andreas's signsture style of using the tremelo bar ntm his solos in general have influenced countless guitarist. Also yesh Andreas didn't play his solos for sake of showing off. His lead playing are songs within yhe song. IMHO that's so much more important than racing to cram as many notes 🎶🎶 as humanly possible .

Dangerous half-knowledge, but I think the Floyd Rose 1000 and 1500 are more affordable Korean-made "official copies" that use inferior metals, i.e. softer ones that get chewed up by strings and trem use faster than the "real" Floyd Rose. The 1500 has a push-in arm and stainless steel screws, that's all. Neither is available to purchase, they're for guitar manufacturers only.
