I wouldn't mind seeing some unique features to make sure taking settlements doesn't get repetitive, considering how many there are. For example maybe settlements of a certain level aren't allowed walls, or maybe taking the largest/strongest city of a small region may cause smaller nearby settlements to join you without a fight depending on their garrison, public order, or corruption levels

Ideas like this have been a back and forth debate for some time now. In practice however with the amount of nations it would be impractical and the amount of scripts needed would slow up the game, so for now its classic conquest. However like I said in the video it really isnt a chore as generally you'll fight more field battles because the AI leaves cities so just auto resolving your stack vs 1 unit doesnt damage you much at all. I think its one of those things where it seems overwhelming at first but as soon as you play you'll realise its so fun. Every campaign is so deep and so replayable now! @tarquimsuperbus @@danielalejandrocerecedodig6237

@@sedative71honestly makes loads of sense to me. Modders aren't constrained by as near as many limitations as game devs
@torimaudal9699
@torimaudal9699 Жыл бұрын
@@sedative71The developers are restrained a lot more than you seem to give them credit for, primarily by a time and cost constraint. They have to have a "finished" game out by a certain date. They need to find a sweet spot for when something is deemed "good enough", and move on to the next part. Modders are mostly restricted by self-imposed restrictions, while developers have team leaders, managers, and more importantly, publishers who need certain stuff done by certain dates (missing these could also make other parts of the team unable to continue, worst case). Spending salaries on researchers for long periods of times isn't always cost-effective for the developers, if they're at a point they deem "good enough". Sales will determine if said "good enoughs" and "finished" are indeed up to a standard we expect, and judging by the TW-series, it mostly is. Not due to historical accuracy, but gameplay. Not sure there's numbers for how many people play with mods, but I expect it's the minority, and that most people who play R:TW vanilla wouldn't even know (or care) about the historical inaccuracy of Egypts roster, for example. Though that specific example could indeed be deemed as "not good enough", how many would refuse to buy the game because of it? Would it hurt the sales at all? That isn't to say that you're incorrect in saying that CA, Paradox and probably Bethesda knows they can lean on the modding community to boost their sales, which is why they also spend some time making sure the games are easily moddable and mod-accessible (at least Paradox does this actively). I doubt, however, that any of them actively lean on the modding community "fixing" their games. After all, DLCs are all the rage...
@jasonkidd5489
@jasonkidd5489 Жыл бұрын
@@sedative71Developers are constrained by a lot of things. Like the above comment said, mostly they have to choose cost-effective decision for a lot of things. And also one of the biggest factor aswell is game maintenance fee, Total War franchise doesn't make money like online games did. Devs also can't just put their whole life onto one game, they jump from project to project. This where modding community jump in. Also I'm pretty sure game company only pay devs until game is released or 1 year after that. Then they will start cutting cost by only assigning few people to maintain and update the game.

Super exciting! Wish there was a mechanic of auto surrender if a garrison only has one or two units in it (versus like a full stack), kind of like real life theyd see the army coming and most likely give up because one unit of javelins has no chance... No idea if that is possible but that would reduce the potential siege fest, but I do agree with you that auto resolving those small battles won't make it that bad, especially with the new AI changes to make it so they try to sally out or defend.

Generals should be able to use diplomacy, towns without a governor have a higher percentage of yielding, branching off authority of the faction leader.

@Red_Zed Жыл бұрын
Hey paul, thanks for your comment bro! This idea has been a back and forth debate for some time, but we found that it would most likely be impractical given the limitations of the engine. Its a 20 year old engine after all even if it is remastered. It would need lots of scripts and with the amount of nations on the map with varying sizes be extremely hard to balance. But yeah like you say, once you play the map you can just auto resolve those small sieges because you generally will destroy the AIs armies in field battles allowing you to take their cities easily because they're normally out trying to find battles to fight :)
@paulb3482
@paulb3482 Жыл бұрын
@@Red_Zed Thanks man, yeah I figured that there would be engine limitations, I was thinking myself at the time but the amazing work that the mod team has done to transform the base RTRR to what it is now in 0.6 is insane with the given engine too. I'm extremely interested to see how this new AI change plays out when it gets released in October. I actually really LIKE siege battles, but not when I'm at an overwhelming advantage. I'm happy to play a siege where its two full stacks fighting against each other is super fun. Attacking from different angles, using a combination of artillery and siege engines... But I don't enjoy playing when I have a full stack and fighting against 3 javelins and a hoplite. Because then it becomes, siege towers to the walls--)set them to attack square---)3x speed. And I don't wanna autoresolve some medium sieges (like 5-7 units) because i'll end up losing like 500 men compared to the 50 i'd use if I was in charge. Wish the mod team allowed donations, the countless hours put in and yielding such great results is incredible.

@@madwellmusic8995 Well "authority" only exists in medieval two, maybe it can go off influence instead... But I like that idea a bunch. I mean you could also just send a diplomat with the army because I don't know if the engine would allow generals to do diplomacy. I think a lot of these ideas have been thought of by the mod team but the engine limitations are clear so they have to find viable workarounds.

@Red_Zed
@Red_Zed 11 ай бұрын
Play a small faction then, there’s plenty of factions with 1 to 5 starting regions. Once you play it as well you realise it’s all about regional conquests so a campaign can be Epirus into Greek Hegemon and it’s really satisfying doing that. You’ll maybe only conquer 80 regions in doing so and that’s less than a WC in vanilla. So the only real factions where turns will take a long time is the Seleucids and Ptolemies. And in these cases it’s probably 30 mins first turn and then 10 minutes a turn after that :)

So... Campaign management is my favorite part of Total War games, specifically Rome... However... 1719 settlements sound mentally exhausting to a perfectionist like myself. I will probably still play it, but I think it is impossible to finish it without getting frustrated at the sorting of public order, population number, construction queues, tax levels, army queues and army count, just to name a few things... I know that at the core of the territory you start with/conquer, things will even out fast and a lot can be ignored eventually... But Geezus, isn't 1719 Settlements it a bit too much for the UI?? So I'm wondering if that will ever be addressed because to use the current UI system in such a large scope and ambitious map is like using parts of an old 1950s car to drive a modern car... It may be possible to set up, tune it, and modify it enough to be usable, but God damn will it be tiresome and super clunky after a while when you need to roll up the window with a lever for the third time while driving, to steer without ABS or to try to shift gears that require super human strength to engage... Oh, and all the while, the driving just gets harder and harder (more and more things to control and manage), but the all the rest stays the same and there is no incentive for you to keep driving long distances... eventually, you can't even check the fuel meter without putting on special sunglasses because the dashboard will start to reflect the sunlight into your eyes or something crazy, you know? tldr: sounds amazing, will probably play the mod until I get so incredibly frustrated at how clunky everything is, that after 100 hours, I will uninstall and won't play it for another year until version 0.7 comes out.

You can always stick them on AI management if you want. From my seleucid campaign I've got 172 settlements currently and I've not found it a chore at all, I love the campaign management aspect. Can understand if someone doesn't enjoy it as much tho. I just use the list screen and you can order it however you want, PO, Income etc Also its likely you'll be doing regional conquests and taking areas at a time rather than conquering the whole map so it'll be a long long while before you get to a massive numcer of settlements :)

The new factions would be Maurya (India), Saba/Sabaeans (Arabia) and Kush (Nubia). I would imagine. Not sure what the fourth one is though. At first I was thinking maybe the Kingdom of Aksum (Ethiopia), but the time period is a bit too early for that particular kingdom. Someone else enlighten me as to who the fourth could be? Anyway, this map is utterly insane. Haha. It was already crazy before, but now it's on an unprecedented scale, truly. I really like the new island settlements that are everywhere, and appreciate that even small factions can start with at least a few cities now, making their start not quite as unforgiving. I do think it's a bit overboard in a few places though, like that stretch of southern Anatolian coastline with like 6 or 7 Ptolemaic cities right next to each other. Not sure how fun that would be gameplay-wise. Also not huge on the campaign map textures, especially those grainy/pixelated shorelines, but that was an issue I had previously as well. Anyway, this is just looking absolutely colossal now. Very impressive in scope. Hats off to the mod team for sure.

Regarding the map, it's hella beautiful. Regarding it's accuracy, well, North Africa was heavily farmed. Many areas in Numidia and Mauretania were forested and other areas were closer to grasslands than drylands or deserts. Maybe forests are a bit curved in Europe overall, but it doesn't look bad at all. Maybe you could use forests to distinct Germania, Belgica and Pannonia from Mediterranean and Gallic regions instead of doing a very hard change for nitpicky historical accuracy. Shores are wonderful, you could even add very small rivers just for aesthetics instead of pushing so hard for it since you clearly have the most important ones already. Can't wait to have very interesting battle maps in this game
@Red_Zed

Even before this, once you got 10+ settlements, you could just steamroll with the sheer amount of money you can make... I hope for some corruption that scales with the number of cities - that can be mitigated, but not removed entirely. Also return of direct control over city vs puppeting it vs allaying it, each with different form of player control - the more you have control over it, the more corruption/diplo expansioninst debuff you get...

Main tip: Just focus on the specing where to go for trade and where to go for internal income such as mines/farms etc. How to manipulate public order in for squeezing money temporarily in time of need. How to grow a major city and moving population from it to the large cities while building the major one up - growth is % based so the gains are larger in the single major city that has bigger base than from multiple smaller ones... They need to have a feature in which citys can simply swear loyalty to you and pay you taxes and give you soldiers while remaining "independent" if you win major battles against their owning factions. The prospect of having to besiege and take over every single city seems beyond exhausting and not really necessary considering how much of history actually happened. Its not like the Romans or Alexander the great or the persians individually seiged every single city they controlled; often they just beat the prevailing power and then that city just was like "yea... We'll just join you now" and then that was it
@Red_Zed
@Red_Zed Жыл бұрын
I address this in the video mate, I personally don’t see it as a chore, and when you think about it if you’re going to take over Greece you might end up with 90 or so regions that’s only the same as a WC in vanilla, so at that point you’ve done a campaign if you want! I think it’s a different mindset, don’t think you’ll be doing 1700 sieges you’ll still do just the same as vanilla if you want, but for everyone who wants to they can continue on from then and conquer even more. Unfortunately the scripting option would just not work with the engine, and it would be very messy from a gameplay perspective

My biggest concern is not the sieges, but the management of settlements. In the current 0.5 I tried to have Automanage running, but I noticed that once I save & exit, and come back the setting for Automanage (Financial, growth, military, etc.) changed automatically for almost every city. And with 100+ settlements in my empire it becomes such a chore. Is there anything being done to either fix the Automanage or to ease the burden of management?
@Red_Zed
@Red_Zed Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure about the automanage thing as I manuallly manage everything, 100 settlements is a vanilla WC so I’d say start as a small nation, but it might be worth asking about automanage on the discord as it might be a bug, weird how it will turn off?

Is it only new regions or the map is also expanded ?

So the map size has remained the same so you’ll still have the same movement points etc from 0.5 but they have basically filled in all the areas, especially the scarcely populated ones, with more cities :)

We need computers cheaply available that can handle Rome 3 with improved graphics and 2000 cities.

Hmm, there are some decent ones but cheap is hard to find! :)

i would NOT recommend to autoresolve siege battles when you play in the early stages or you are weak. you can lose in a 14vs5 1.5k troops instead of like 300 when you fight it manual. this is a heavy defeat in the early stages.

Yes early game you have to play them out, I’m talking about when you’re stronger. From my experience AI normally leaves only one or two troops in most cities so when you have a full stack autoresolveing those fights is what I think is best to do if you don’t want to just fight two units, this is what I meant

😅 don’t worry tho, if you go for a vanilla WC when you play it, a campaign in the mod will likely have just as many sieges, you’ll just conquer all of Anatolia or something instead of the whole world :)

Iberia seems very impressive and hard to conquer! I already had a view of the map and units of the Iberians, unfortunately they do not feel really barbarians unlike the celts and germanics. Il tell you why if i get a reply

@@Red_Zed cool, if there is a modder who sees these comments I would like he sees my units suggestions for Iberians -They do not look like barbarians enough "take out your shirt/tunics you sexy thangs" (by that i mean having some painted warriors) like the Historical Painted Warriors of the Edetani -archers, in all vanilla they seem unexistent in Iberian factions -Horde faction, historical or not, if the barbarians (yes, barbarians, not just Iberians, should be able to move and would make an interesting migration system in a larger map, the Arevaki could go try to settle south in Hispania or got direct to northern gaul haha) If they add the Turdetani, they could put the Tartessian war chariots (historical fact) the Turdetani,direct Heirs of Tartessos.

Cool, they are a long time away bro but when they are being done you can be assured they will all be historical units from the iberians at the time, either found in writings, on coins or carvings etc 😊
