I just bought a Crave today, and these videos are just incredibly helpful. I'm watching them in order, and this one in particular is not only instructive but full of really cool ideas. Thank you.

I honestly think these videos should be shown in schools! They are AMAZING! I've been using synths for years, but this is still very watchable! The simplicity is the beauty. Cheers! 🎉

Best video yet in a fantastic series. Patching finally makes (almost) perfect sense! I have thoroughly enjoyed all your previous videos, even the early ones covering the basics. I wish this stuff had been around a couple years ago when I got my Crave. Something here for everyone from total beginners to forgetful old gadgies like me. You explain everything in an ultra-easy to understand style using an ultra-affordable synth. Great stuff mate. Thank you and keep 'em coming....PLEASE!

"Oh, there's that *swing* again!" My chromebook with maxed volume, you're hard to hear clearly, but I have a fan going because the sun lives over my house, so it's even harder to hear. I thought you said, "Oh, there's that *slime* again!" Honestly, it works either way. The swing on the Crave is slimy, it's always creeping out of the shadow and gooing you up. Straight DIRTY! BUT, now consider that the phrase that was accidentally swung was in the harmonic minor, so it was extra creepy and slimy. I never really hear the harmonic minor in that way, I think I use it for epicly triumphant, but gilded lines... naw, I've a tune (prayer) that was in harmonic minor and it was a little slippery, like a serpent, which is quite dry, but evokes a kind of slipperyness... but nothing approaching "slimy." But in your usage, boy did that creepy, unexpected slimy swing exponentially increase the slip in the harmonic minor into profoundly slimy territory. And now in reflection, I'm realizing a class of music that employs the harmonic minor with swing to immense slimy effect. I never really considered what motivated the slime in this music, but now I see, you take that slippery harmonic minor and swing it, and ear wax just pours out your ears. DIRTY! I jest. Though, I did really mishear you, but the term I heard slime really did click for me, and made perfect sense. It was a mistake, but it lead to a serious music history and theory realization! But, nonetheless, I jest, but I am serious, your series on the Crave has been revelatory. I have substantially greater command of the sequencer. Artfully, not technically, mastering it is unfortunately a ways off, but without the technical proficiency YOU'VE given ME, the realization of its full artistic potential was impossible. It is now possible, thanks to you, so, thanks to you! And with this patching video, what I felt to be a somewhat limited set of patch points based upon my previous usage (before this last week) has exploded with potential, I've had so many tricky patching ideas that are totally novel to me, to the point where I think I know what *should* (maybe the slimiest word of all) happen, and the sound that should result... but with modular synthesis... I find concepts that should "work" in a certain way, and they might in digital, but in analog, with micro lag, or slew of waveforms of voltage changes, especially at audio rates, produces something else entirely, demented wave forms with bizarre harmonics. Anyway, I go on, only meaning to thank and encourage you and your teaching work here on KZbin. I greatly appreciate what you've done here from the portion of your body of work I have so far experienced. Which, isn't much, but from what little (I hope, I hope there is a lot more yet undiscovered) I have experienced, has produced great advances in my understanding and facility with the Crave.

I can't thank you enough for this video (+ video #7). As a 40+ right-brained creative, who broadly understands LFOs and ADSR envelopes - but is hopelessly new to CV patching - this kind of thorough breakdown is really informative to me, and has given me a path to using the Crave more creatively. Really appreciate the forensic, molecular-level approach. Next video: a guide to the Korg MS20 patchbay, ha! I also have one of those, and am yet to actually figure out how to use the patching on it.

Thank you! Part of the reason I started making these videos was to better understand the variety of options with even a limited synthesizer like this one, and partly as a cure for GAS (which means no MS-20 for me, though Korg did just announce the return of the full-sized one...)

According to instruction ENV out can give voltage up to 8V... while all INs can accept only max 5V (at least instruction says like that) ;)

Holy saints!!! I did not reduced the sound, when I plugged the speaker into the VСF output !!! It was loud ... Why I hear anything, when connect the VCF and ex audio input?
@music-with-eric
@music-with-eric 2 жыл бұрын
The output of the VCF is an audio signal normally routed to the VCA and its envelope. Taking a signal directly from the VCF means it is not being at all attenuated by the VCA, so it is as loud as possible. I’d definitely stick to the VCA/Line Out or Phones jacks for listening purposes, and only use the VCF output to go to another modulating input.

Can you send vca to multiple for two outputs?
@music-with-eric
@music-with-eric 3 жыл бұрын
Not sure - the output of VCA is line level, while the multiples expect a -5/+5 voltage. Likely it would be similar to plugging a line-level source into the external input jack: it wouldn't provide enough voltage to be useful. I'm always wary of trying such things, though, as I don't want to accidentally fry a connection. I imagine a splitter like you would use if you wanted to share audio to two pairs of headphones would work. *Disclaimer: I'm a musician, not an electrician! :)

You should use a mixer to mix audio signals. If you want to patch the crave output to some other synth you can use the VCF output
