BEHRINGER DEEPMIND 12 BAGPIPES SOUND DESIGN TUTORIAL ~ Synthesize This! Ep.15

Making a bagpipes patch from scratch on the Behringer Deepmind 12. It's not the most realistic bagpipes emulation but it's a pretty good approximation. The main idea is to start with a thin piercing sound, then thicken it up by stacking voices together. Then with the help of some effects and detuning as well as careful playing we can get pretty close to something that resembles the right sound.

As a Scotsman I would say you pretty much nail it. Think the lower tone mod and pitch are better actually ( like at 12:00).

I tell you if I had to choose I think I would have to choose it over all my other gear, and that's saying a lot since I have good collection of stuff. Still the DM12 rocks and can do the job of many other synths. Glad to see someone else on here loving it the same.

Nice. To me, the reverb was too much, but it definitely gives the impression of a bagpipe. Maybe a bagpipe in a big room, or down a long hall. I like the gracenotes you use too.

I love following your videos, but for some reason my bagpipe isn't sounding anything like yours. Your tone is a lot different than mine. I'm not sure why. Do you mind sharing that patch so I can compare it to mine? Something else I also noticed is that you said you were going to use a comp, but it switched to a reverb. I followed what you had on the screen just pointing it out.

A great tutorial, can the drone be made quieter or the right hand louder? Something to remember is that when playing a melody the bagpipes have only about one octave of notes. Nevertheless this is a pretty good emulation, thanks
