Daniel Fisher, Sweetwater's master of modular, demonstrates the three punchy oscillators, classic 24dB/octave voltage-controlled filter with resonance, envelopes, LFO, portamento, and more. All instantly familiar - only smaller. The Behringer D is a Eurorack-sized reincarnation of the legendary analog monosynth that started it all. From fat pulsing basses to searing leads to celestial pads: the Behringer D puts a world of musical expression under your fingertips.
The Model D module is being played via MIDI with the Behringer DeepMind 12:
www.sweetwater.com/store/deta...
...and is sometimes being voltage controlled via an Electro-Harmonix 8-Step Analog Sequencer:
www.sweetwater.com/store/deta...
Daniel occasionally engages a TC Electronic Flashback II to create Ping-Pong delay:
www.sweetwater.com/store/deta...
...and a BOSS RV-6 Reverb pedal:

i think proving that prices are ridiculously inflated for some gear (both new and vintage) is a big part of behringer's motivation with all these new clones. it's rebellious & bold move against the establishment. however i don't expect the snobs to ever change their minds about what's what.

Behringer's pricing reflects the economies-of-scale benefits of mass-production, and not having to recoup the r & d that went in to the original core design. It's good that they can make things that are affordable for the masses, but it's naive to take that and say that the companies that operate a different business model have pricing that is "ridiculously inflated".
@TudorNeve

I still don't believe a Model D costs €3700 after all taxes and expenses paid. Yes, it's true, Moog might not survive without these prices - although I don't think a slight price cut would have a negative impact. Maybe they need someone better in their marketing department. Nobody forces them to remain boutique and I know, nobody forces me to buy their stuff. I also blame societal gentrification for making boutique stuff so legitimate in 2017.

Also I'm very happy that Behringer is bringing on the heat. For us consumers competition is the best thing that can happen. All small businesses grew out of necessity to survive. And while I love Moog I have to admit that they've been sitting on their laurels for the past few years. Let's see what happens next.

While it's cool, why on earth would they ever have replicated the Keith Emerson modular? How many of those did they sell...two? I don't understand their direction. A new Minimoog shouldn't have been over $2,000, especially with nothing new added. I'm with you, guess we'll see what they do next, but even the most elitist synth companies out there have caught up with the times and had lower cost offerings.

There are better stringers than the VP330. They should definately combine the VP330 and the RS505. Now that would be the ultimate stringer! Behringer are you listening?

Oh, someone has read and captured my wish post. After I asked Xavier from XILS LAB for the idea of an emulation of the fantastic RS-505, he answered me, it would be his next project to try to implement an RS-505 stringer section into the VP330 clone, the XILS V+. And I also made Behringer the suggestion to combine both great synthesizers in one hardware gear. This would be an amazing special stringer synthesizer, the world hasn't seen yet. Uli, my hero, try to get the RS-505 into the VP-330 and make us happy!

Afaik Moog didn't retain the rights to the internals so Behringer has basically cloned the circuit board. Maybe they substituted a few caps here and there but the sound should be pretty spot on as it's essentially the same hardware, and not some digital emulation or something like that.

Given unless you own an original moog model D, and even with that you probably still won't get the original tone it had when it was first built. For 400.00 I doubt anyone who wants it won't be disappointed, plus this has some nice "Modern" features. But feel free to just stick to your 3,500 worth of historical memorabilia. Hope it's making you buckets of money for it's golden sound on all of your music or makes you feel warm inside when you play it, that's all that really matters. For the rest of us at least some company decided since they could to capitalize on the fact that more hobby synth fans will love to finally get a chance to have some of that history for themselves if they want and be able to justify the cost, like to there wives...? To bad the closest you can get with an actual moog product is the single VCO mother 32. Other than supporting an American made product which I think is important it would be nice to see moog offer something for the everyday blue collar folks. I can't even justify swapping my digital Roland System 1 toward a used sub phatty. The sys1 sounds amazing, has 4 note polyphony, came with the SH-101 and has so many other features that really are more worth the 350.00 I spent on it over the 5-600.00 for a 1 note moog that doesn't even have a sine wave for the LFO. At this point just get over the HYPE!

If you were going to use this as a musical instrument , and not ruminate over it as piece of synthesizer snob wankery, it is indistinguishable in sound in all intent and purpose. Synth geeks tend to forget ( because generally they are not recording professionals ) that instruments are NOT recorded raw. They are sat in a track which is balanced and eq' then mastered. That is a fact. So in any real recording this will sound Exactly the same as the machine it has been ingeniously designed to mimic. Well done behringer. It's going in my collection.

Timothe Catlin you’re kidding me? Trying to spin this around and say it’s the people claiming they can’t hear a difference that are snobbish? Would you say someone who can’t tell a $10 bottle of wine from a $1000 bottle of wine snobbish? Or is it the person who brags about being able to do the reverse that is snobbish? You straight up admit you’d need a spectrum analyzer or an oscilloscope to show proof, and you’re really nebulous about the perceived differences. Again, I insist you wouldn’t know he difference in a blind test. You’re literally just chest thumping about your own perceived expertise.

I"m especially interested in using the analog white noise - my version of the Minilogue is XD and its a digital white noise, different from the old model. Thank you very much for your prompt return.

I find it ace that a company somewhere on earth realises not everyone is minted and willing to spend ex amounts of cash on a classic synth. The dislike from people who own/recently purchased a model D is understandable but for people who are really wanting to get into the music tech world in general this is great. Saves a lot of messing about getting VSTs that dream of being able to sound like the real thing. Most purists will disgree with Behringer's choice to remake this synth as all they want to hear is real Moog. In my opinion I give Behringer a massive thumbs up because it gives the younger generation a chance to experince something usually out of their reach.

Sounded pretty sterile and processed to me. Nothing like the filters on any Moog. These filters sounded pretty shallow and uninspiring to me, and this whole demo was really bright and thin.....

I agree. One Keyboard + multiple desktop modules is more practical. I keep running into 80s/90s synths that are ether keyboard or difficult to program rack units.

Let's be reasonable. Any semi-talented synth nut would be able to make some very decent tunage with this. Whether it's an exact or even semi-decent Minimoog Model D clone is almost a non-issue. It sounds MORE than decent enough for making music, and it's 1/10th the price of a real Minimoog (if it's really going for $299). Do I love Moog? Hell yes, but not everybody can afford one. Would have preferred the demo without effects, but so it goes. And Daniel, thanks much for the tasty Emerson licks.

Great demo! Behringer did a pretty good job at getting it to sound like the Minimoog. I particularly like the filter. The only thing that seems to be lacking a little is the low-end. It doesn't quite have the powerful bass from the original Minimoog or the Voyager for that matter.

Hi Adam. Look in the ARP SETTINGS Menu. There's a parameter on that page called ARP-TO-MIDI. "On", instead of "Off", will make the Arpeggiator go to MIDI. It's all on page 58 ARP SETTINGS. Thanks for watching!

@sweetwater
@sweetwater 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Sercan Usta, like the original Minimoog, this is a monophonic (one note) synth. So, to get 16 separate parts, you'd have to record 16 separate audio tracks, one at a time. Thanks for watching!

I’m totally blind, so, aI wanna know what keyboard do you get with that Behrenger D, since I now have one, or, what do you get besides a keyboard to play that thang? So far, I Frankenstein experimented by getting a Komplete Kontrol Native Instruments keyboard that I had to take back because I want something that you can plug into the wall and into that Behrenger D first, to learn how to play. Then later on, connect it to the computer, what would you suggest, because I can not wrap my brain around, going through the computer exclusively to that Behrenger D and playing the computer like a musical instrument, I don’t know, maybe I’m getting old! I also, bought a Roland Midi controler which I had to take back. Any other suggestions?

dude, any synth with a midi out. A midi controller needs to be plugged into a computer. Literally any synth with midi out will work, dx7, esq-1, kawai k3, all make great master controllers and cost less than 300

How would you connect a midi usb controller like the Nektar LX61+ to this unit? Is it possible?
@sweetwater
@sweetwater 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen, USB-only controllers are typically designed to connect to a computer. So... you could connect to a computer, then use a USB-to-5-pin-DIN MIDI interface to get to the D. And, while there are a few interface boxes that can go from USB Type A to MIDI Out, you may find it much easier and less expensive to just get a simple controller with 5-pin DIN MIDI Out. Thanks for watching!

Been panting for n Odyssey tabeltop, but now I'm wondering if I want this module just as much, even though I already have a Minimoog Voyager. Has everything that the Moog Music Model D reissue carried and more, at a fraction of the size.

I have a Minimoog Voyager too. I have to say this Behringer might be nice to fill in for the parts where the Voyager is not the strongest. The Voyager is somewhat lacking in the high-end frequencies and sounds a little 'dull' compared to the original Model D. This Behringer on the other hand, does have all the brightness you could get from a Model D, making it good for shaper lead tones. The Voyager on the other hand is great for bass, and this appears to be a bit of a weakness on the Behringer. Together however, they should allow for pretty much the whole range of tones you could get from a Model D, and then a lot more with the additional options.
